ARCHIVED Glutened By Gluten-Free Tostitos?
kareng replied to Kias4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Salsa ingredients can be harsh for a lot of people - has nothing to do with Celiac. I eat salsa most days fine. Coffee is acidic to the stomach, too. A little dairy in it helps a lot of people with that acid in the stomach. I bet that dairy cheese with salsa probably helps that, too. A little explanation about testing for gluten - a test for less... -

ARCHIVED Against The Grain Pizza

Against the Grain and Schar use a lot of tapioca. It may be that you don't like that? I think Udi's is more of a rice based? -

ARCHIVED My Nd Tested Me For These -- Are These Right?
kareng replied to CanadianK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Perhaps you should get a new MD who will test you for Celiac disease? But, if you have been basically gluten-free (just a small slip occasionally) the tests might be negative. You have to be eating gluten to make enough antibodies to show up on the tests. I can't really comment on any tests that an ND does as they are usually not the ones that are... -

Have you been eating gluten free? That can mess up the actual medical tests for Celiac that Colleen linked to. -
ARCHIVED Smuckers Caramel Syrup
kareng replied to Jferrier's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know which exact kind you had but this one has barley in the flavoring. Open Original Shared Link Whether is is one of those highly processed things that would be safe, I can't tell. You say you can't eat the fake maple syrups - the 2 things these have in common is a lot of high fructose corn syrup. something to think about. -
ARCHIVED Store Employee Telling Me I Don't Have Celiac?
kareng replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Note to Newbies - don't take medical/gluten advice from someone who didn't graduate from high school and makes minimum wage for 31 hours a week and thinks that is great. My point being - they aren't a doctor, nurse, chef, or even a Whole Foods vitamin department employee. What she said was rude and stupid,.... That's it. Email the company but you really... -
Sounds like a great idea. For snacks - could you leave a little plastic box with a tight lid? And a big " Across's stuff! Eat at the risk of death or dismemberment"? Put some individual packs of Fritos or fruit snacks or nuts or whatever? Or just always have a little snack in your purse or car when you go over? Maybe she has something you could have...

ARCHIVED Store Employee Telling Me I Don't Have Celiac?
kareng replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think we posted together. How would the employee know you weren't buying for someone else? My BIL is more than healthy looking but has a wheat allergy. I am more than healthy looking, too. I would complain. I have people ask if a product is good. I have had some ask some questions because of their own or families health issues. But I haven't had... -
ARCHIVED Any Lasagna Noodles Not Made Out Of Rice?
kareng replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have seen corn noodles but not lasagna. Could you maybe make lasagna but with a thin, compact layer of Deboles corn pasta? Or thin slices of potatoes? -
ARCHIVED Store Employee Telling Me I Don't Have Celiac?
kareng replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't even have discussed it with a Walmart employee. They barely make minimum wage. Edit: we posted at the same time. That's just rude! I hope you have her name and report that. -
ARCHIVED Are Fast Food Places Like Mcdonalds Safe To Eat?
kareng replied to Deano12's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Actually, that is against company policy. The fries/ hash browns are cooked at a different temp than other foods. Also, because fries are McD's pride and joy, cooking something else in the oil will change the taste. It is very important to McD's to maintain the integrity of the fry flavor. -
Wow! Are you me? Lol. Close Aldis. Never go there but would to check out the gluten-free stuff.

ARCHIVED Are Fast Food Places Like Mcdonalds Safe To Eat?
kareng replied to Deano12's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Cathy, This got me, too, when I was new to Celiac. There are a few items that are derived from wheat but don't contain measurable gluten. I think this flavoring falls in that category. But in the US, we require it be labelled with " wheat " even if it has been tested and certified as gluten-free. -

Are you talking about your signature at the bottom? I know I have to delete all of it and then add it back. I can't seem to be able to just add something or edit something already there. I get the same Oops URL message. That is on IE, GoogleChrome and Safari ( iPad). -

ARCHIVED Feeling Good On Gluten?
kareng replied to dania's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Excellent reasons to continue eating gluten and be tested. If Celiac isn't the issue, then you and the docs will know to look further. If you find out it is celiac, welcome to the club. -
ARCHIVED Store-Cut Pineapple
kareng replied to veryami1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know a lot of states/ counties health codes do not allow the consumption of food where food is prepared. It isn't up to a store to decide if that should be the rule. That means you can't eat in the food prep area, even if no food is currently being prepped. Do restaurants staff eat in the kitchen at the end of the night? Probably but it would be against... -

ARCHIVED Store-Cut Pineapple
kareng replied to veryami1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get the pre- cut pineapple, too. Some it it is even cut at the " pineapple factory " before it gets to a store. The behavior Raven described should never happen. It is against all health codes. Hopefully, she reported that or scared the management into compliance? Lol. -
ARCHIVED Possibly Studying Abroad In France?
kareng replied to supersquatchy's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Have you talked to the " program" yet? See what they think? Will you be in a family home or a dorm or your own apartment? Will you be able to shop and cook for yourself? Are you even able to go on an airplane? Might be hard to get there if your allergies keep you from flying. Do they still cruise from New York to Europe? I think a situation where...- 1 reply
