  1. Bring something you can eat with these friends. Especially if you are at places like Taco Bell, its easy to whip out your own lunch at a back table or food court at the mall. If you are ever served a steak with the bread on it, you must be certain they don't just give you the same steak back. Slice it in half. If its a salad with croutons - put a sugar...
  2. Ask why your TSH is high and going up. I think that can mean a thyroid issue. Why isn't the doctor addressing that? A poorly functioning thyroid can cause lots of trouble.
  3. There are not different degrees of Celiac. Its just that some people have more or worse symptoms than others. Eating gluten is damaging all of them, whether they feel it or not. Sounds like she does have symptoms - headaches and fatigue are a couple of big ones.
  4. I think it is cleanable. I use vinegar and water. I spray it into the nooks and crannies. It seems to dissolve the hard stuff so it can run out. I would try that a few times, Maybe a toothpick or a big pin in the cracks. The mixing attachments might be harder. You might be able to get new ones. Or maybe soak them in hot water and vinegar, swish around...
  5. Sure it could be Celiac. You should be consuming gluten to be tested for Celiac. Glucose is sugar and not gluten. I'm not sure what you mean in your questions about gluten and glucose?
  6. http://www.tacobell.com/nutrition/allergens But they do say wheat in the ingredients! "Suggestions for Wheat and Gluten Sensitive Individuals: Express Taco Salad (order Chicken instead of Beef) Tostada without Red Sauce Fiesta Taco Salad (order Chicken instead of Beef; order without the shell and without the Red Strips)"
  7. Do you want kids? Women with active Celiac disease have problems having kids. Also, because Celiac is genetic, do you want a mom for your kids that doesn't think illnesses are a big deal? Maybe look at the univ of Chicago site and print a few things off and talk to her about it. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  8. Whenever we debunk a celiac myth with proof people argue it is true anyway. I see that the univ of Chicago Celiac Center has this problem on their Facebook page. For some people, a blogger calling themself a healthy home economist or celiac coach are more of an expert than actual MDs and researchers. This in where I think we need to use common sense. ...
  9. Its a lot more likely than touching a licorice wrapper. Your doctor who proscribes these things needs to explain what they are for and how they work to you. The progesterone is made so that it will be absorbed into your skin. It has side effects like you were experiencing: " However, progesterone can cause many side effects including stomach upset,...
  10. Yes. Buckwheat is gluten-free.
  11. Maybe you could give her a little gluten each day and on Monday insist you get the basic blood test. I don't know how old she is, but some babies/ toddlers aren't making enough antibodies to show in a test. But some do...so I think it would be worth a try.
  12. Never seen nail biting as a direct sympto of celiac. I think it can be a response to anxiety and feeling sick might make a person anxious ad in need of something comforting.
  13. I don't understand why your doc wouldn't at least do the basic celiac blood test before advising you to go gluten-free? The tooth decay on a small child is a real warning sign of Celiac. But, without a " real" diagnosis, you will have issues with school, doctors, etc. I am so sorry your doctor is uninformed. This just makes it harder for you.
  14. I should have clarified what I meant by hidden gluten. I meant all the people on the Internet insisting there is gluten added, on purpose everywhere - envelope glue, coffee beans, etc. There is a company trying to imply that manufactures add gluten to make us sick...that sort of stuff. The doctors did say that, from their research and experience with patients...
  15. Looks like she did every possible blood test and they are all negative. Even tho your IGA is low, they did the IGG version, too. Cleiac can cause miscarriages. Perhaps you should consult an MD OB/GYN?
  16. I take it seriously. I choose to educate myself by attending medical conferences like the International Celiac Disease Symposium and reading info from reputable websites and studies and using a little common sense. I met a lot of patients at the ICDS. Very few had even heard of all the nonsense we see pop up on here about "cures" and "cross-reactivity...
  17. You are parking on the driveway or parking lot? For 4 months? You could just put foil over the top. Or transfer it to a casserole?
  18. You know you are supposed to empty those PODs don't you? Or put them in storage?
  19. That is probably it! This is what I got him. Girls seem to love that he & his hair smell like peppermint! He had itchy skin and this has helped a lot. Open Original Shared Link
  20. This isn't a super creamy, cream laden dish but it makes a nice 1 pot meal. I think you could use more spinach if you wanted. I think I have changed enough about this recipe to make it mine - changed & added some ingredients. Changed a few other parts as well as the measurements. Oven Chicken Risotto Olive oil 1 medium onion - finely chopped...
  21. Let me get it. It was originally on here but Patti and I modified it a bunch to make it a one pot meal. And translate it into American.
  22. The original poster hasn't been active for three years
  23. You can have a skin allergy to wheat. You can have a skin allergy to any other ingredient in a product. My son, who does not have Celiac, has found that some of the ingredients in shampoos and detergent irritate his skin. Sulphites are one of them. Can't remember what the other thing is but its in some of the preservatives, I think. He's 20 so he buys...
  24. I was there. I heard the presentations. The wheat does not contain more gluten. Its not "GMO" in the sense that many are using the term these days. Its a hybrid. If you read the article and the research it is linked to, it states that there is not more gluten in the dwarf hybrid of wheat.
  25. This is hardly an expert. I don't have the time right now to get his name, etc. Will try later. I was at the International Celiac Disease symposium this week. We had a Dermatologist expert on DH. He said that gluten is too large to get into the blood stream thru the skin. And even if you have a cut, the gluten would need to be in the intestines...
