ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction- Is It Celiac?
kareng replied to rachelh4207's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We rarely make wheat cookies in our house. I usually buy something or bring something different like strawberries. The flour stays in the air and settles for about 24 hours. When my hub has made wheat flour cookies, I clear all the counter around the mixer. Put as much stuff as possible awaay or covered. We have a shield on the mixer bowl that helps... -
ARCHIVED Delicious Convenience Food
kareng replied to Nikki2777's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Are they frozen? Or a dried soup cup type thing that you add water? My son likes things like noodle cups or a rice cup that he can microwave and add some grilled chicken to for his lunch. -
ARCHIVED How Fast Do Antibodies Decline?
kareng replied to durrsakja's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This seems like what happened to me. My antibodies were beyond the highest positive. After 4 months, they were still very positive, but reduced greatly. More importantly, I felt much, much better. Open Original Shared Link "What is the half-life of antibodies in the blood serum? tTG and DGP typically decline to half their initial value in 3-4 months... -
ARCHIVED Uticaria, Lactose, Blood Type
kareng replied to Trixlm's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
So basically, there is no research about blood type and Celiac. As I remember, this guy has no real medical evidence of most of the "info" in his book. Its was just a fad diet book. -
Saw you status to about looking like you were beat up. Feel better soon!

ARCHIVED Uticaria, Lactose, Blood Type
kareng replied to Trixlm's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm not surw about your "research" on blood types. Please share it. Type 0 is the most common blood type, it might make sense that its the most common type among people with Celiac. Open Original Shared Link O positive is the most common blood type. Not all ethnic groups have the same mix of these blood types. Hispanic people, for example, have... -
ARCHIVED How Much "cheating" Is Allowed ?
kareng replied to Tamber's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I guess I mean that they can incorporate a little bit of birthday cake by adjusting what else they eat & when they eat. Not blatant " cheating". I think people see a diabetic eating a small amount of a dessert and think its " cheating". -
ARCHIVED How Much "cheating" Is Allowed ?
kareng replied to Tamber's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Its not the same thing. A diabetic can have carbs or sugar if they adjust what they eat and thier insulin. We can't adjust anything to make the body not attack our intestines from the presence of gluten. You might want to think of it more like rat poison - a small amount probably won't kill you. Might make you feel sick for a day or 2. Do you choose... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction- Is It Celiac?

I see now you have other posts about your health, too. I thought you were one of those annoying people who think a gluten-free diet is for weight loss! -

The gluten free diet isn't about weight loss. Eating less calories will give you weight loss. -
ARCHIVED How Much "cheating" Is Allowed ?
kareng replied to Tamber's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You are about to be bombarded! You might want to duck behind a piece of furniture. No on purpose cheating! You may accidentally get a little gluten at times but you should never do it on purpose. Would you eat a little rat posion? Or cat poop? Open Original Shared Link "The gluten-free diet is a lifetime requirement. Eating any gluten, no... -
ARCHIVED Lab Results Back But I Can Barely Read Them =(
kareng replied to SeekingSarah's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would insist on readable lab results! Whether positive or not. People with DH often don't have a positive blood test. Open Original Shared Link If you continue to eat gluten, you could have the DH biopsied and that would be your confirmation of Celiac. Just make sure the Derm knows to biopsy mext to the active "spot". Open Original... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Reaction- Is It Celiac?
kareng replied to rachelh4207's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
gluten-free oatmeal does bother some Celiacs. Most "experts" recommend you not eat it until you have been gluten-free 6 months - 2 years. Seems to differ. I think they mean you shouldn't eat it until you feel better (healed). -

ARCHIVED Claritin D=Disaster For Me
kareng replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe just Claritin without the D? Isn't the D the pseudophed? That can cause problems in some people. Or try Zytec. Target has a generic that says gluten-free on the package. It's a completely different allergy medicine. -
ARCHIVED Ground Beef And Gluten
kareng replied to Tiredsean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have done well with ground beef if its not greasy. Too much fat, especially in the beginning, was hard to digest, etc, etc, -

I think your article may be confusing or even wrong. Here is some info from actual medical centers that treat Celiac. Open Original Shared Link I'm trying to find the links to say that there are no valid tests for gluten sensitivity that is not Celiac Here is one: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED First Time Poster/my Story
kareng replied to winter-warz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You said you wanted a test for a gluten allergy? I tried to explain that Celiac disease is not an allergy to gluten. Sometimes it's referred to that way. But its not a "gluten allergy". You can have a wheat allergy with or without Celiac Disease. I'm not sure how they test for the allergy or how reliable it is. My BIL has a wheat allergy but has tested... -
ARCHIVED First Time Poster/my Story

She did have that one on the list. It is a test for Celiac disease not a wheat allergy. celiac Disease is not a " gluten allergy". -

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Have Issues With Trader Joe's Labeling?
kareng replied to TGK112's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It doesn't . Lots of things are gluten-free and not labelled that way, even at TJs. For example, I don't think any of the cheese is labelled gluten-free, it just is. -
Bye Bye tumor!

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Have Issues With Trader Joe's Labeling?
kareng replied to TGK112's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know who wrote this or how credible they are. When I got to the part about some US law on what is gluten-free, I knew they weren't a reliable source. There is no US law on the meaning of gluten-free. In the case of apple juice, I would have serious doubts there could be gluten in the juice. Using a little common sense, juice factorys will not...
