ARCHIVED Facepalming Really Hard Right Now
kareng replied to Persei V.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oil and eggs aren't acidic, are they? -
A few thoughts: 1. Just because something " disagrees" with you, it does not mean it is a Celiac Gluten reaction. 2. Are these foods made with the rice, also made with soy sauce? Are the street vendors using soy sauce or other gluten foods in thier carts that may have cc'd the food? 3. For some reason, it makes you sick. So, don't eat it. 4. Perhaps...

Gee...I'm not really sure. She should be ashamed of herself for leaving her subjects bereft. -

Scott said something about needing to update the system, I'm sure he would love to make a "good Karma" symbol just for the Psillies. -

Well...I have learned alot from these historic postings! I have learned that we either need to drink more or post more when drinking! -
Could it be something in these "multiple Asian delights"? Who is making them? Are you sure there isn't soy sauce or cc?

Looks like it worked.

ARCHIVED What To Do With The Beef....
kareng replied to shadowicewolf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Maybe a stir-fry? If you didn't use soy sauce and Asian type flavors , you could cook the apple in, too. Make a slaw style salad with the cabbage, apple, onion, carrots & top with a vinegrette? I love apples on salad with Italian/vinegrette type dressings. Not sure what the beef is, but grill it to go along side. Some people make squash into... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Decide?
kareng replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We thought we answered that. I guess we don't know what you are asking? I see no diagreement here or in the reputable Celiac medical community - don't eat wheat, rye, barley and sometimes even gluten-free oats (usually recommended that you wait until you get feeling better). Often, it is recommended you limit or eliminate dairy for a few weeks or months... -
ARCHIVED How To Make Someone Understand
kareng replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think that would alienate him. Unless he thought that would be romantic and he doesn't want that type of relationship. I think you just have to be honest. " Why don't I cook dinner before the movie? I really prefer my own cooking." Or, "come to my house for coffee and some fruit and ice cream after the concert." He may suggest eating out so... -
That isn't a normal thing to do to grated cheese. Wheat flour is sticky when damp and would cause the cheese to melt into a sauce like constancy. Which might be what they hoped to achieve. I have used flour to thicken melted cheese into sauce.

ARCHIVED How Do You Decide?
kareng replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with Jess and Lisa. I think common sense helps. Know what is and isn't likely to have gluten in it. And remember everything isn't about gluten. For example- Common sense would tell you that an orange doesn't have gluten. If you eat an orange and have an upset stomach, its not gluten. Its something about the orange or lousy timing and... -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Cheat On Your Gluten Free Diet?
kareng replied to karinp's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No need to worry about tea bags. That is just one of those myths that seems to go around the internet. I think the imitation crab meat is a real concern but in the US, they must label the wheat added. -
I had problems with spinach for the first year and a half gluten-free. Cooked or raw. Now I do fine with cooked spinach. I can eat raw spinach, too but not in large amounts. A lunch size salad that has some spinach is OK but not all spinach. I don't know the recipe but arugula works well as a replacement in some dishes. It agreed with me,

Any makeup you might ingest. Lipstick might be a concern. You would get it on your mouth. Mascara shouldn't make a difference unless you chew on her eyelashes.

In a normal home, it should be OK. In this circumstance, I would bring my own and take them home in a plastic bag at night to wash.

ARCHIVED Anorexia Nervosa Induced Gluten Intollerance.
kareng replied to Alie J's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm agreeing with Ski Lisa. I also think that is not a very balanced diet. 5 bowls of porridge is a bit excessive. Change out 4 of them for real food. Does your ED doc know you are eating this way? It may be making you gain weight but it is still an unbalanced way to eat. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Volunteered With Feed My Starving Children?
kareng replied to jertanner's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Are the foods already packaged? My hub's work packs the weekend backpack meals for kids. Everything is individually wrapped when we buy it. For example juice boxes, canned tuna, applesauce cups. If you have to scoop up flour and re-package it into smaller bins, I wouldn't do that. -
ARCHIVED Excruciating Pain - I Need Serious Help
kareng replied to Invictus's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No. That doesn't sound normal. What do the doctors say? Have they checked your gallbladder? Liver, etc? -
Did you check that the corn flakes are gluten-free? Regular ones are not. Nachos give non-celiacs reflux. Not the best way to test if one item bothers you. Too many potential items like dairy, salsa, cc (sho made them?), etc

ARCHIVED Why I Still Eat Bread...
kareng replied to SandraLAVixen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So....pain for 5-8 hours & then passing out is the way to eat more calories? You know that's not true. If you can't eat for 8 hours plus the "passed out" time, you aren't eating much. Of course you are dying of starvation, you are eating one thing that makes you sick and then not eating for a day. Sounds like you don't eliminate the bread because... -
Before you search for other, less likely causes for your issues, try being gluten free for 6 months-no cheating - no magic "cure" pills. Maybe dairy free, too. Try the more likely things first. I would ask you for your reputable source for this "I have heard" info but, this isn't an autism site, so most of us don't follow the research.
