ARCHIVED The Choices We Make
kareng replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"Where I was coming from is that I have been wondering at the choices others around me are making. I would rather not eat gluten free; it is too much trouble they say. Meanwhile, they suffer, suffer, suffer as I look on in wonder. I am still working on the post and will try to make it clearer." I think many people don't see that gluten could be causing... -
ARCHIVED Do You Buy Kraft?
kareng replied to scarlet-willow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have never seen a cheese in the US with gluten except a specialty beer cheese. There is no reason to think there would be gluten in the cheese. Most food is not "guaranteed" gluten free. Most companies do not test for gluten so they will not say it is gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Well, The Food Court Is Torture....
kareng replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the US, most hot dogs are gluten-free. I would say all hot dogs but someone will have found an off brand that had wheat in it. -
ARCHIVED Well, The Food Court Is Torture....
kareng replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok...Let's get back to the topic of food court food. This isn't the place to debate politics or religion which is the direction this could be going. -
Have you tried a sinus rinse? Like tis one? Open Original Shared Link My son had a sinus infection and it helps alot. More than alot! The ENT said not to use a nettie pot because it sometimes sends the water thru too fast. Use the kind with the squirt bottles. My son says to do it it a hot shower. Its messy and gross. I think you can get...

If you can't get another that you feel safe with, you are choosing to maybe loose your hearing, go into the hospital, pneumonia, suffer for another week or so until it gets so bad you will have to have IV antibiotics? I would have taken it. At least a couple of doses until tomorrow and the doc coulsd order something else or I could get a different nrand...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Food In The Hospital?
kareng replied to rachelh4207's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
From most of the experiences I have heard, it is very unlikely you would get a really gluten-free meal at a hospital. Pack a small cooler & a bag of food or have someone bring in food. You should be able to eat packaged things like milk, jello, yogurt that the hospital has. You could talk to the dietary staff ahead of time. If it were me, I wouldn... -
ARCHIVED Testing An App For That...
kareng replied to gatita's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The first time I ate at PF Changs' I didn't feel so good either. I ate way too much and it is very salty. I was so excited to eat out. Hub and I got the lettuce wraps (I ate 2/3rds), egg drop soup, 2 entrees and the dessertt (once again that 2/3rd split). Now, when I want some of each, I bring at least 1 teen boy. We get only gluten-free food so we... -
ARCHIVED Suggestions For gluten-free Freezer Foods?
kareng replied to mamaupupup's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Forgot : Hub grills extra burgers for my parents to put in thier freezer. Just microwave, yum! I cook extra turkey Ital sausage and keep in the freezer. Make ahead or get a gluten-free brand of meatballs are a good idea. Hot dogs. -
ARCHIVED Suggestions For gluten-free Freezer Foods?
kareng replied to mamaupupup's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm sure you will get the freeze soups or chli ideas. Homemade soups can be put over rice or noodles for something different. Chili can be put on nachos or salads. My son likes melted cheese on the chips and dip in the chili. I make a big batch or 2 of smoothies and freeze them in this type of container or small bowls. You could also freeze them... -
ARCHIVED Testing An App For That...
kareng replied to gatita's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Becareful of these apps. We had someone on here insistting something has gluten because of a "app". I don't remember exactly, but it was something that never has gluten. I would double check the ingredients before eating or discarding food. Also, just because a restaruant has said they have a gluten-free menu, it only means the basic ingredients aren... -

ARCHIVED Need Some Clever Wording Help
kareng replied to kareng's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Got an immediate respnse back. Looks like a CYA statement. Glad to know it is not the students cooking. But too bad for the people eating that they are not cooking. 'The department that caters here is Dining Services not the Culinary School. -

ARCHIVED Kirklands Golden Margaritas
kareng replied to snosrap3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Our Costco isn't allowed to sell alcohol but I would guess it was gluten-free. Does it have ingredients listed? When I saw this title, I thought "Some Costcos have bars? Must you buy your drinks in bulk? 6 margaritas for $30! Do you purchase tickets for cab rides home in bulk there, too?" -

ARCHIVED Need Some Clever Wording Help
kareng replied to kareng's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Me too! And I'm considering using it! Patti, how did they heat up your food? Microwave? I was hoping they would tell me what they are serving. I thought it likely that it was mostly gluten-free. You know the typical banquet stuff - choice of Rubber chicken with gluten sauce or over-cooked steak , mushy mixed veggies , salad (minus croutons). Bring... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Popsicles?
kareng replied to rami's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think most plain popsicles are. They are just water, sugar and flavorings or juice. Look some up on line. I need help with a nice and clever way to say: I appreciate that you are being honest in telling me you can't help with gluten-free food. But you are a well known culinary school, you should be able to handle it and I would think you would want to teach the students how to deal with food allergies in the catering setting. At this point, I don't want to...
