You have probably figured it out by now but.... Pm (private message) each other. You do that by clicking the envelope under the person's picture/avatar. Then you can decide if you want to exchange email addresses privately or just pm on here for a while. Putting an email address on a post here is very public. -

				ARCHIVED Most Gluten-Free-Friendly City
kareng replied to kdonov2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My son goes to CSU in Ft Collins. CO. The dorms do a good job of gluten-free food. The school has a professor who studies gluten-free grains and cooking. They offer gluten-free cooking & baking classes to the community. -
Eating things that are not so processed. Eating things without all the strange ingredients that wouldn't be in the soup if you made it yourself.

The ingredients look OK. In the US, if there is wheat in it it must be declared, it cannot "hide". Nor can a grain "hide" in spices as it it not legally a "spice". There are a lot of ingredients in there, so it could be hard to pin point one as the culprit. If you are new to Celiac, it can take months to heal. During that time, many things can be...

Most of us don't go by the listed ingredients alone at a place like that. We known that the chances of cc are very high. Any place with 2 gluten-free items and 75 non gluten-free items is likely to get some gluten in the food. If most of the food was naturally gluten-free, your chances are better.

I haven't been to Carrabas, but have heard it is good for gluten-free. When I last looked at Appleby's gluten-free menu, it wasn't really very gluten-free. For example, it listed fries as gluten-free. If you read the small print in another part of the menu, it mentioned that the fries are cooked with all the gluten coated chicken nuggets, onion rings...

Happy to hear our favorite rooster is doing OK. Sorry to hear Loey got dizzy and fell. Especially grateful to hear Victor no longer has a mullet. We are on vacation in the Monterey CA area. We kayaked this morning and saw lots of seals, otters, birds and more large jelly fish than you could imagine. J and Hub are napping, M is doing his summer math... -

ARCHIVED Are All People Allergic To Wheat, Celiacs?
kareng replied to trey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was thinking about this. I know that alot of us say we are "allergic" to wheat to make someone understand - like the counter person at Wendy's. So, even tho I'm not allergic to wheat, I sometimes say I am. I think its easier to understand sometimes. -

The key to all this is: If you are going to go to the trouble of going down to the kitchen and cook - make extra. You can microwave in your room tomorrow. -

ARCHIVED Kansas City Gluten Free People?
kareng replied to nail girl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I live in the OP area. I don't go too many places. I have not had good luck. They either have no idea what I am talking about or the food on the gluten-free menu is gluten-free until someone starts cooking it where they just cooked a bun. I go to Pei Wei, Minsky's, Waldo Pizza, PF Changs, Bonefish and Jaspers (no gluten-free menu but a nice place... -

				ARCHIVED Doritos Nachos
kareng replied to quincy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They are saying that these are the ones we test and will label gluten-free. Then they say this other list has no gluten ingredients but we do not test them and they may be made on the machinery with the Sun Chips or other wheat based chips. That does not mean they wouldn't pass the test, they just are not tested. The nacho cheese ones with wheat as... -

Let's see if this link works better. Is this them? Open Original Shared Link I did the same thing for my kids (and still do) so they have a "plate". When they were little I used a bigger piece of foil they could unfold with the sandwich in it. Now I use plastic wrap but foil is easier for a little one. They need to have Spiderman and Dora on them... -

I can't show you the exact law, but I remember there is often even a disclaimer on the outer box to check the inside packets for exact ingredients. Something I have seen at Costco or Sams large boxes. Probably because the little packets can be sold individually so you would need correct info at the point of sale and eating. I think it would still be illegal... -

				ARCHIVED Chobani Greek Yogurt
kareng replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is what it says on thier website. Maybe they put it in a different place or its just a symbol now?: I have never found any yogurt with gluten except those ones that you add the toppings like granola. I know people who have worked for Frito Lay/Pepsico. They have plants all over the country making drinks and chips (not in the same factory). Its possible they are still selling older chips or every factory hasn't converted to the new recipe (if there is one). Probably can't use the older bags on new chips because ingredients have to be accurate. I think...
