  1. Always cook extra. For example, it doesn't take any longer to grill 6 chicken breasts than it does to cook the 4 you need for tonight's dinner. Need 4 burgers? Cook 8 and microwave a few days later. Or freeze them and bring them out next week. Put the left over chicken on a salad. Make rice, throw in a can of beans, some salsa and the chicken, put...
  2. Got this from Blender Girl. I'll credit where she got it from when I find it. "A flax
  3. Whey is from milk. Not sure what your definition of " cross react" is but whey is not gluten. Many people, some with Celiac , have an inability to digest it. For many, when they have healed thier intestines, they can add it back in.
  4. Hub says they are better than gluten brownies. Very fudgey. We have also loved gluten Free Pantry brownies, too. Another thing to do: Add the Kraft Carmel pieces ( not the big squares but the little round BBs ) to the batter before baking. BC has a gluten-free site with things to make with thier products. I have made a 3 or 4 of them & they...
  5. I Have frozen the Betty Crocker brownies. They are delicious frozen if you can't wait for them to thaw. I made some really thin and sandwiched ice cream between two pieces. I then froze them on a tray and then wrapped individually.
  6. I think you have to talk to the manager about thier practices. We have a pizza place here that went thru training to be certified for gluten-free pizza. They get the crust from a gluten-free bakery. They have special pans and cutters. They use toppings like cheese & sauce from the fridge. The toppings get contaiminated from floury fingers and putting...
  7. I wouldn't call a place where employees come home with a layer of flour on thier clothes a safe place to eat. ( Panera). Read the what's for dinner thread to get some ideas. Maybe get a crockpot. You can throw some meat & beans & salsa & veggies in it and have dinner in a few hours.
  8. Would " because the experts say it will" work? Open Original Shared Link "The gluten-free diet is a lifetime requirement. Eating any gluten, no matter how small an amount, can damage your intestine. This is true for anyone with the disease, including people who do not have noticeable symptoms. It can take weeks for antibody levels (indicating intestinal...
  9. Spices cannot hide wheat in the US. Wheat must be labelled clearly if it is in a drink mix ( unlikely) or maltodextrin ( again unlikely) or spices. Or any food.
  10. Do you share pb, margarine tubs, jelly, etc? A toaster? A colander? These are the easiest ways to get gluten when you think you are OK. People put some jam on thier toast then stick the knife, with toast crumbs back in the jar to get more. Colanders are so hard to get all the gluten pasta out of each little hold. I agree with Julie that you have been...
  11. Not sure those symptoms have anything to do with caffiene but From the website q: what is the caffeine content in the crystal light iced tea flavors? a: CRYSTAL LIGHT® Iced Teas contain only 10 mg caffeine per serving. (Instant teas contain 26-36 mg caffeine per 8 fl. oz serving while brewed tea contains approximately 48 mg caffeine per 8 fl....
  12. Quaker oats are not considered gluten free. Even Quaker will tell you that. Regular oats are cc'd with wheat during growing, harvesting, or shipping.
  13. Sorry, it may be typos, but I found your post a bit confusing so I'll clarify. This is the statement taken from Centrums's website under FAQs. It appears they are gluten-free. This is the usual CYA statement for a company that does not test for gluten and doesnt want to make a legal claim to gluten-free without that testing. "Q: Do Centrum
  14. Sometimes, people aren't getting enough fiber. If your main source of fiber was whole wheat and you suddenly stop eating it, you may not get enough fiber. Or you may suddenly be eating more fiber than you used to. Sometimes it takes a while to get it sorted out.
  15. I could never eat thier burgers and fries. Way too much food! I get the fries and eat peanuts, too! Then I don't have to worry that they may grill a bun for someone or get crumbs on a spatula.
  16. The first two or three seasons for sure. After that it gets a bit rediculous .
  17. I love that song! It was great as the opening for Weeds.
  18. It was from some article about the does and don'ts of conversation.
  19. So I saw this list of things you should and shouldn't talk about. These are the things not to talk about. I'm afraid we have been conducting this whole forum wrong! On the positive side, it appears topics like booze, sex, pirates, sex with pirates, yetis, pets, men in high heels, and in-laws are perfectly acceptable topics. Don’t suck the fun and p...
  20. Was going to ask if he was cute but who cares - if he cooks and understands gluten-free! I find that HyVee has many employees who have some understanding of gluten-free. I think because they have tried to be a supplier of gluten-free food. The one I go to in Overland Park, KS has more gluten-free speciality stuff than the WF.
  21. No. I thought it was interesting and a cute commercial. I figure it would spark a discussion but it's a holiday weekend in the US, so maybe not.

    ARCHIVED Water Filter

We had this discussion before, and I think some of the filter are made with coconut shell or fiber? If you had a problem with coconut, maybe that could be it? I think some of the carbon (charcoal) is burnt coconut. I'll see if I can find that discussion. here's something hat shows they use cocnut to make carbon in some filters Open Original Shared...
  24. Check the meds & pet foods as suggested. Also, re-check the processed foods she is eating regularly. I can't tell you how many people eat stuff like Corn Flakes not realizing they have malt (barley) in them. Also, make sure she doesn't think that Rice Krispies treats are gluten-free if anyone elses Mom makes them, & that sort of thing. Tell the...
