kareng replied to Spartans1960's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Open Original Shared Link I have only tried the plain Tamari And the Teryaki so far. There are lots of recipes on line, just sub in the gluten-free soy sauce and cornstarch if it uses flour to thicken. Most recipes I have looked at use cornstarch. -

ARCHIVED A Farewell... Beating My Symptoms
kareng replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We have a whole school district taking Monday off for a " mass glutening"! On Friday, kids and staff were vomiting and leaving the schools in droves. They disinfected today and will again on Monday ( if enough custodial staff is well). But really....gas is normal! It's normal to have an upset stomach after eating spicy stuff ( for some). It's... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Leaching From Egg Noodles Into Broth?
kareng replied to DickS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry! I didn't mean to sound so snippy! If I had said it out loud with facial expressions I would have gotten a laugh and a " Right Mom!" I basically meant to think about it and use some common sense. Like when the kids ask me something they should be able to figure out. With the gluten-free diet, common sense is important. I feel about people... -
ARCHIVED Defiant Dieter: 'Celiac knows no financial boundaries' - Vancouver Sun (blog)
kareng replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Most food banks don't want to deal with special diets. I emailed, twice, an large church pantry about supplying some gluten-free foods. Even said I could help them & explain it. Never heard back. I found a small food pantry for our school district that's keeps the gluten-free stuff separate and is happy to have it. If there is some sort of food... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Leaching From Egg Noodles Into Broth?
kareng replied to DickS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Really? What do you think? Let's see, we got noodles made with wheat flour. They get mushy, little bits you can barely see break off, if the noodles sit long enough they start breakig apart.... YES! There is gluten in the broth! If your food touches the gluten item, you must assume some of it came off on your food. That means you can't pick the... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Without Contaminating House?
kareng replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
what about the really wheat laden cereals like Shredded Wheat or Triscuits crackers. We keep the gluten bread on its own counter away from everything else. -

ARCHIVED WW II Every Night At Dinner
kareng replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know if this will work but... When my kids were about that age, there were many things they would not eat if I gave it to them. If my sister's husband was eating them, they had to have some. Not sure why, but they ate all kinds things off his plate. Is there an older kid or aunt or smeone that could help? One of mine started eating a lot of different... -
Demand some serious jewelry? Move out to a nice hotel? Get a smarter hub? (Tell him I suggested these things) If your yard is already a muddy mess, could he just try to rake up the rest, then turn the soil? Cover it with wood mulch? Maybe the birds will eat it? Put down some of that weed cloth to hold the seeds under it?

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination?
kareng replied to BrittLoves2Run's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Show them some info from Celiac Experts: Open Original Shared Link Q: Is it ok if I ingest some gluten if I do not experience any symptoms? No. The majority of patients with celiac disease experience no symptoms when they ingest gluten, either intentionally or unintentionally. This led to the concept that patients, especially children may grow... -
ARCHIVED KC Masterpiece BBQ
kareng replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We have 500+ people on here this hour. They see a statement like "Kg's BBQ sauce is not gluten-free" They don't realize the person posting this is new to gluten-free or unreliable or angry at the company for some reason or stating an opinion or trolling for a fight. We only have 5 rules. One of them is: Any claims you make here should be based on... -
ARCHIVED Progresso Soup?
kareng replied to terryjean's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This thread is ancient history in product time. for the last few years (2?). Progresso has made some gluten-free soups ( in the US). They are clearly labelled gluten-free. The others may be OK but they are only labelling the ones they take extra care to make. -
In the upper right corner, you should see a google box for this forum. Put on brain fog. You should find lots of posts to consider. A lot of them will tell you that, until your " vitamin" levels come up, you can't expect it to get better.

Are you saying you are pregnant and having Chemo for cancer? "The Quick New Plan So in Spokane at the doc's office, mom and I were informed that surgery would be the only option for something that was cutting my time short. ARCHIVED Cold Medicines
kareng replied to hillary13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If your head is really stuffy, my college son used a nasal rinse? It's not the Netty pot but the same company makes a squirt bottle ( looks like a contact lens solution bottle). With little packets of the right amount of salt. He did it in the shower, most do it over a sink. You run the warm saline water thru your sinus. He thought it was great. My... -

Try the google in the top right corner. just keep an eye on the dates as product info from 2006 might be different now. You can go to the website of a product you are interested in & some will mention if something is gluten-free. Here's the list of gluten-free drugs compiled by a pharmacist. There may be some not on it that are gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED I Am A Terrible Mother
kareng replied to kaity's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Because oats are very similar to gluten, some Celiacs react to them like they do to wheat. It is usually advised not to eat them until you have the gluten-free diet under control and are feeling better. Carry on with the rest of the suggestions. -
My mom has always made meatballs with cooked rice. Maybe quinoa would work.
