ARCHIVED Traveling To Dordogne Region In France
kareng replied to heatherm4's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I have to wonder - why would you want to travel with these people who don't really care about your health or if you feel well? If they weren't relatives, I bet you wouldn't do more than talk on Facebook. -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy
kareng replied to shadowicewolf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you get a copy of everything yet? Take it to a " regular" doctor. Maybe he/ she will diagnose you based on the blood tests and a good response to gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Daughter's Second Opinion Today
kareng replied to Debbie B in MD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That is a lot. My SIL draws blood for a living. She said it isn't uncommon for teenagers to get light headed or pass out even for a small amount. She said they are likely to be dehydrated. Hopefully, if you have to repeat, you can do some in 3 month and some in 6. -
ARCHIVED What Would You Like To See In A Cookbook?
kareng replied to MissBonnie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think I really want the chef to pop out and cook stuff! Could you invent that? Just tired of cooking. -
ARCHIVED Mississippi Celiac Searching For Others
kareng replied to OleMissLass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just a reminder that most cornbread is more wheat flour than cornmeal. I have to say that just incase someone reads this and doesn't know that. -
I know there are some cheese fondue recipes that have corn starch. Its sort of like queso. i wouldn't eat somewhere that doesn't understand what yoyu are asking.

ARCHIVED Disneyland - gluten-free Restaurant List As Of April 2011
kareng replied to love2blog's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
;)We were there last summer. When you get there, go into the Town Hall and get the list. It was bigger with more places than that one. You still have to talk to the place you are eating. I went to a Meixcan stand and they said the stuff on the list wasn't quite right. It was a practical and taste matter. They had thier own list for what they had today... -

ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
kareng replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That's sad. She had 9 great years with you 2 that she wouldn't have had if you didn't take her. -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy
kareng replied to shadowicewolf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did he just do 1 biopsy? There is a lot of small intestine, would be easy to miss the 50% that is damaged & get a piece of good intestine. I would definitely ask for a copy of the pathology report (biopsy), op report and the blood work. Make sure you got done what you think you had done. He got the biopsy report back the next day? That's quick... -
Thanks.

ARCHIVED Finally Found A Pasta I Like!
kareng replied to Marc49's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are several brands of corn pasta or corn & rice pasta. We liked them OK. They are really good for chili mac (chili, macaroni, cheese, sour cream). Everyone has different tastes. Would be easier if we all liked the same things! -
ARCHIVED Please Sign This Petition For gluten-free Girl Scout Cookies!
kareng replied to Gardening's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They could probably get a company with a gluten-free cookie to repackage it with Girl Scouts on the box. Maybe even give it to them at cost then the GS could sell it only slightly more than the $5 they cost at the grocery. We have a coffee bean company that puts stickers for our Lacrosse team on the bags of coffee and we get them at about cost for fundraising... -
ARCHIVED Observations We Can All Relate To...
kareng replied to MEH's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sometimes things like gluten-free bread & pasta gets better the farther you are from having the "real" thing. I never liked white bread. I like the CAnyon Bakehouse San Juan 7 grain bread. It tastes like a whole wheat kind - not soft & mushy. -
ARCHIVED Please Sign This Petition For gluten-free Girl Scout Cookies!
kareng replied to Gardening's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll sign it. I'm afraid they will have to cost $10 a box. They will have to get a gluten-free baking company to make them. -
Did you go out and try to do the steps I did above? I'm not knowledgeable about the technical stuff but I thought maybe you had missed a step. I can barely see the log in thing at the top. When you type in to go to www.celiac.com, does that work?

ARCHIVED Seltzer With Natural Flavor Have Gluten?
kareng replied to CJ2011's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know what the ingredients are. Maybe there is one common thing that bothers you. Can be hard to know. I have a problem with the bubbles. It is much better since gluten-free but I still can only do a small amount. I pour my diet Mt Dew in a glass to get some of the bubbles out. The sweeteners don't bother me except the ones the sugar alcohols... -

Beautiful! Will you live with me? My son's going to college, you could have a room instead of an attic. And a kitchen! Karen (Who is on a never ending quest to get someone to cook for me) -
Good luck, Steve! I think there are alot of women on here that would love to date you! Someone should start a gluten-free/food allergy dating service.

ARCHIVED Had Initial Appointment With Gi Today, I Don't Get It...
kareng replied to Meg123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He actually doesn't sound too bad. Most of them are taught that you waste away with Celiac. I saw an interesting theory on a website about overweight, even obese, people having Celiac. His point was that we aren't absorbing the nutrients our bodies want and so we keep eating trying to fill that void. And because our whole 16 feet of small intestine... -
ARCHIVED Devastated By Thankful
kareng replied to gluten free overseas's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Go to the top right corner & use the Google search. I just tried it with "lunchbox" and got some of the old posts. Some people will eat things cold - like left over pizza or stir-fry. Sounds like you don't live in the US, Canada or UK so you might not have the exact products people talk about. One of my kids has a friend that brings sushi a couple... -
ARCHIVED Hiding Personal Information
kareng replied to viviendoparajesus's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Click on my pic or name or anyone elses. You will see what we see. We don't see the home address. Any parts we see, you should be able to change. Mine says I am from the Kansas City area. I could probably delete that if I wanted to and leave it blank or make it less specific. Another way to check: log out of your name. Then come back on as a guest...
