  1. Thanks for the on- site reporting. M was thrilled to hear about this. J, my HS senior, heard and was intrigued. Because they like to build stuff, there was much speculation about how to make a sound, yet edible, structure ( one has watched Cake Boss). J decided to do his current events report on the summit. He said this one he actually read the whole...
  2. I had an endo. MY blood work was soooo positive, it maxed out the highest values on the test results. I chose an endo to see how bad & paired it with a colonscopy to just check it all out.
  3. Julie- that's pretty funny now! I know it wasn't then but , now we are grown-ups, ....
  4. Did you get a bite? Now the important info my 15 year old son wants to know: How tall? How many pounds? What flavor? Was it yummy?
  5. Did you have a positive blood test? Maybe your regular doctor will diagnose you based on that & a good response to gluten free. The only reason you need an actual, on paper diagnosis is to force a college to feed you safely. Also, when you have kids, the family history (mom diagnosed) is sufficient to get your kids tested every few years.
  6. I'm sorry these people are your relatives. You can't pick them. Just because you are related to someone, you don't need to spend time with them or even like them. Its likely they would be mean to you about something else if they didn't have Celiac to pick on. People don't suddenly become mean & vicious just because you can't eat gluten. The part...
  7. I've used Pamela's all-purpose for thickening sauces. Its not pure white like gluten flour but works & tastes fine.
  8. Who is reporting this and what are his credentials? Unfortunately, there are lots of people saying lots of things on the internet. The deposed King of Nigeria sends me emails. My parents believe every story they see about women getting attacked for wearing a color or drinking a certain diet soda brand.
  9. I believe this has something to do with relatives. Figuring out that your dad's counsin's kid's baby is your 2nd cousin twice removed or some such. And a way to calculate how annoyed you will be when your MIL visits. L = Length of visit (in town) C = 1 for each car they want to borrow D = Amount of days spent staying in your home K = Kinship coeefficient...
  10. Simon! Are you posting on Mommy's account? He just wishes he had a never ending salad.
  11. Good that you are keeping the Doctors busy. Isn't there a saying about "Idle doctors are the Devil's fools?" (maybe I got that a bit wrong?) I thought you said you were coming to see Kansas! Though I would like a bit of notice as I have to have at least a week to worry & fret about what to serve for dinner. I would love to paint as well as...
  12. Just looked out the stairway window at Hub's "experimental garden" This is where he plants one of everything that strikes his fancy at the garden store. He lets whatever wants to grow, that we didn't specifically plant, grow. Guess what is growing? Thistle!
  13. Here are some pics of DH. You can probably find others, too. Open Original Shared Link
  14. I didn't say to eat what they ate. Just that what other kids brought might give her ideas to bring her own version. She's better off without that junk even if she could eat it. I'm surprised to see dancers that age, eating like this. Not good fuel for dancing. Sometimes, I heat my food at home & pack in an insulated linch bag. You can get microwave...
  15. I was just laughing at Richard's post, thinking "ain't that the truth!". No one said you, personally, over indulged. Most, but not all, Celiacs, have no problem with distilled spirits. They may not work for you. It's good you figured it out.
  16. That's rough! She may have to take the same thing over and over. She what she comes up with. Maybe she can get some ideas based on what the other kids have.
  17. If they are willing to pay for it themselves, the doc could still order it and run it through the insurance. Then, if the insurance doesn't pay, they would. However, he should use the diagnosis code for family history of genetic disease. Be right back with some info from other doctors he might look at. Ok. I'm back. I'm trying to get dinner going...
  18. If its not causing you problems, I wouldn't eliminate it. A lot of people go off dairy for a few weeks or months when first going gluten-free. This is because we digest diary in the small intestine right where the Celiac damage is. It isn't mandatory and I don't think its become a law yet.
  19. I....I...I...I'm sitting here sputtering! Now you know you did the right thing! Wanting you to listen! Might want to tell that woman about that! She might not be too pleased. If he comes around, here is a recipe for goat stew in the crockpot Open Original Shared Link
  20. Get a copy of the endo report and the pathology report. Also, get any blood test & genetic test results. If they give you any trouble, tell them you are taking it to another doctor. At least you need to give it to your pediatrician. Read them and tell us here what they say. I'm assuming you are in the US. If you have any trouble getting the records...
  21. I was a bit weepy. I'm not generally a cryer. It is an emotional thing to be told you have a" chronic illness". Even a curable one. It's a lifestyle change. I felt bad that my kids might get it, etc. Getting healthy could effect your hormones, too. Try to find something funny, even Sponge Bob or Family Guy or a stupid joke website. Enjoy the chocolate...
  22. That's normal for a teenager, but not a toddler. I would tell the doctor. I don't want to alarm you but they could be seizures. Not all seizures are the scary shaking kind. My oldest was in grade school with a kid who did this. He got it controlled with medication. I hate even saying this on a Saturday. See if you can think of any triggers. Watching...
  23. Sorry I didn't see this sooner. The first week I went off gluten, I had monster headaches. Not migraines. Not sinus. I found a little dark chocolate made them back down a bit. ( OK. Maybe a little more than a little.
