  1. Hello, and welcome to the board. If you have an autoimmune reaction to gluten, that is, celiac disease (including the skin manifestation--Dermatitis Herpetiformis), then you must endeavor to avoid all gluten entirely. Once the immune reaction starts, it will continue for up to a few weeks. Cheating once a month completely defeats the diet, as the antibodies...
  2. I followed the link in the original post, and that page now contains the ingredient list in the post right before this one. So it looks like the Angus Burger did at one time contain gluten, but has now been reformulated and no longer does. Keep in mind, also, that that list is for the United States and other countries may vary.
  3. Wash it thoroughly and you should be fine.
  4. As far as I know, vanilla is not a concern. Vanilla is usually extracted using distilled alcohol, which is gluten-free. Some chocolate is sweetened with barley malt, which is a source of gluten.
  5. Like Patti, I have never found a wine which had gluten. I don't worry about wine. It is something that I consider inherently safe and quite enjoyable.
  6. The adjuvant is not a preservative; it is added to stimulate the immune response, and allows a smaller amount of antigen to be used. In the vaccine in use here, the adjuvant is mixed in just prior to injection. Once mixed the vaccine must be used within 24 hours or discarded.
  7. The last post was about labeling in general, not Chex specifically. Such a discussion really belongs in the labeling forum here. Neither "gluten-free" nor "naturally gluten-free" means anything about a dedicated facility in either the US or Canada. The difference between those two is based on the fundamental principle, enforced in both countries, that...
  8. Planters is a Kraft brand. If there is any gluten present it will be clearly disclosed in the ingredient list.
  9. In Canada, the vaccine has an adjuvant that is added a few minutes to 24 hours prior to injection. My wife and I were both inoculated with the adjuvanted vaccine three weeks ago and have no adverse reactions. We both have health issues that put us in the high risk category, and we both work in close contact with the public with a high transmission risk.
  10. Are you finished slamming Il Fornello yet? You have posted essentially the same thing in three different topics. Repetitive posting of the same information is a violation of the board rules. Edited to add: Outback closed all locations in Ontario in March of 2009.
  11. Il Fornello is a full service licensed restaurant. Comparing their food and service to other options, I do agree that it is a rather expensive experience. Being able to go to a restaurant where the service is excellent and I don't have to worry whether they understand the gluten-free diet is a blessing to me. Obviously, there is a subjective element involving...
  12. Well, this is obviously a question where personal taste is a factor. I have been on the diet for over nine years, and when I heard that Il Fornello had gluten-free pizza I was thrilled at the idea. We have been regular customers at the Bayview Village location for nine years. It is somewhat expensive, but I have tried other sources, and except for our own...
  13. It isn't either, really--it is about coping, and that is where I am (again) moving it.
  14. Tis quite quiet here this morning. Methinks all our American phriends must be sleeping off yesterday's turkey, or making forays into the world of shopping. Here in Canada, it is just another Friday. We took Oliver to the vet this morning because his sugars were running high again. Poor guy has another infection, this time in his right ear. So we...
  15. My understanding is that if you carefully follow the gluten-free diet, your health and life expectancy are the same as those of a person without celiac disease. If you strictly avoid gluten, it is the same as not having celiac disease in the first place. But, if you continue to eat gluten, your life expectancy is reduced by about ten years, and it is likely...
  16. ReadingRacer22 is now a freshman at Harvard and is busy with his schooling. We are in occasional contact. Most of us here know him as celiac3270.
  17. I'm not sure what this has to do with the topic of product lists.
  18. Yep, rhymes with Walt (or salt).
  19. You want to look for "fragrance free" rather than "unscented." Unscented may mean that there are multiple fragrances which net to no detectable scent. Fragrance free means nothing added for odor reasons--a fragrance free product may have a slight natural aroma, whereas the "unscented" version has an artificial scent to neutralize (mask) the natural aroma...
  20. Vitamin E (as tocopherol) can be derived from wheat, but can also be from other sources. These include oils from sunflower, almond, hazelnut, walnut, olive, peanut and others. This is a case where you have to ask and cannot assume.
  21. As Lisa said, stuffing the bird with gluten will contaminate the entire turkey. The Cornish hen idea is good. You can make your own gluten-free stuffing if you want. For stuffing, just about any gluten-free bread will do (we use Glutino fiber cord bread ourselves). All of the things people gripe about regarding the texture of gluten-free bread actually make...
  22. Try these links for useful information: Unsafe ingredients. Safe ingredients. Open Original Shared Link If you don't see "wheat, rye, barley, barley malt, oats" on the labels, its not there, or hidden in "flavors, starches, etc." No need to call, and in many cases if you do call, they will tell you to read the label. I am not a fan of gluten...
  23. "PIN Number" Doh--it stands for Personal Identification Number. Redundant tautology, n'est-ce pas? "ATM Machine" - Uh, what did you think the M stood for? Money?
  24. My wife and I own and operate a pet supply business that sells many foods including Taste of the Wild and Canidae. Canidae ALS has recently been reformulated and is no longer gluten-free. It now contains barley. There is a grain-free Canidae formula. Taste of the Wild has a feline formula and it is grain free. We feed it here at home to our three cats...
  25. I tear sideways in a sharp motion (right to left), the same way I tear paper towel from the over-the-top roll in the store's privy.
