  1. I use baking soda and vinegar for my sink cleaning. I'm a hippy that way I usually do a once over with dish soap first then follow up with the BS/V combo.
  2. I wouldn't use it unless I ran it through the dishwasher. Maybe on a sani rinse cycle. As stated, beyond gluten I would worry about germs especially when you are making something that isn't cooked (as in the milks) where they could eliminate that risk with heat.
  3. Welcome! Take a breath and grab so tea and ask questions! Your entire family should be tested ASAP as mentioned! You need to keep him on gluten till the GI appointment and gather information till then to be prepared if it is indeed Celiac disease! The great news is that it's totally manageable with diet! Isn't that great? No medication. No...
  4. The only people here in the house who eat gluten are my DH and I. The kids all eat gluten-free in the house and I only cook gluten-free in the house (DS1 is the one who is dx, DS2 hasn't had it yet as we don't feed it to the kids in the house and he isn't in preschool yet which is when we typically do the challenge for testing when they are young). ...
  5. The kids all wash any time they walk in the house. It doesn't matter if or what they have eaten. People with Celiac disease should wash up before every time they eat. Between these two, it should be enough. Yes, kids are messy but you can teach them to be careful. If we eat out and the middle kid has something her brothers can't, she does wash up before...
  6. Not really. We are in the midwest but yeah, they are $10/each here.
  7. I didn't know that! Thanks for the info. I'll look for it the next time I am out at Whole Paycheck Not sure about you but the Daiya ones are really $$$$ too! I think they are $10 (I only got them because I had few coupons). Bu the option of a fast and safe meal can be worth that price at times for sure!!
  8. My kids didn't care for them. It makes me sad because that would make my life SO much easier if they liked them over my homemade ones!! lol
  9. Disposable is even better but the hippy, Earth loving person I am makes the compromise of glass lol For new Mom's I always keep it disposable. I have a dish from a friend who brought me food when my youngest was born...3 years ago
  10. lol THIS EXACTLY! Once it is set down on a communal table, it isn't safe anymore! I make whatever I am bringing and separate it out for my kids vs. the general population. ALWAYS. Unless they don't like it I make sure I only provide it in glass (which can be cleaned in the dishwasher easily) and I confiscate all the plastic lids so no one is tempted...
  11. You need to find out who your schools 504 coordinator is and send a written request for a 504 qualification meeting. They have 30 days to make that happen. I sent a letter from our Dr. too (stated what the dx was, what quality of life issues it impacts as that is what the qualification is for). That's step one When you have that meeting, go in with...
  12. Oh I am SO sorry your kiddo was so ill! That is terrible! I would be sure to meet with the school ASAP about what happened. We do have a specific accommodation in our 504 that says "No food not from home" (though we are having problems with that right now). But it's a very important thing to convey to them. If you need help getting ideas for a 50...
  13. I believe in the second post I made I specifically said that environmental allergies may be an issue. I understand that there was no mention on anaphylaxis but that is what the tests are looking for. Also, allergy testing is about 50/50 on accuracy so no, they don't most certainly show up. Perhaps if you have issue with what I say you can PM me...
  14. Those are not IgE mediated allergy signs and symptoms. Allergy shiners are typically due to seasonal/environmental allergies and not food. If it is not an IgE mediated allergy then it will not show up on an allergy test and isn't an allergy that can cause anaphylaxis which means it isn't truly an allergy but potentially an intolerances.
  15. Are the special order only Udi's egg free? I was under the impression that all Udi's has eggs (which DS's allergic to).
  16. They can only choose from the manufacturers they are able to get from the wholesale companies they order from. Not all pharmacies can order any med/brand offered.
  17. I would say thank you and take it to a neighbor, work or the police station for them to enjoy. They were informed and tried but it's hard to remember esp if they don't see you all the time. I say be grateful and pass it along. My DH doesn't drink (hasn't ever since I have know him so over 20 years). He was gifted a bottle of wine for Christmas. He took...
  18. You need to contact the manufacturer. The techs fill it with what they have unless specified a brand. You aren't suppose to switch between brands with Synthroid anyways because it's such fine dosing that it can very enough between manufacturers to cause issues. In other words, if you want a specific brand your Dr. needs to specify that ( or you'll never...
  19. Jones' is what we use. Open Original Shared Link
  20. But it isn't clear. I know everyone here will say with numbers that high there is no wiggle room. + blood but - biopsy with no other indicators (i.e. Genetic, signs and symptoms that resolve on the gluten-free diet and so on) it sounds like a bit of a jump to begin with. Why did you do the blood work to start with for the baby? Even if you go by the...
  21. So the baby did have a + biopsy? You say the 8 yo was dx based on blood. What were her test results? Did any of the other kids have the genetic tests run?
  22. Yeah! Yes, I laughed when I saw "use in restaurants to test your food" because by the time you tested a) your food would be ice cold and what if it is positive? Are you going to send it back and start all over? lol
  23. The word prolamine is a protein. The proteins in wheat, rye and barley (specifically gliadin) cause people with Celiac to have an autoimmune reactions. The proteins in corn and rice are not gliadin proteins and do not cause a reaction. Different proteins. Your response to Cyclinglady was pretty dismissive esp considering you are asking for help determining...
  24. Gluten intake and low Vit. D are two different things and one doesn't necessarily have to do anything with the other. I assume that being in So. Cal means you get plenty of sun? Did you augment the Vit. D intake when you went gluten free? There is a chance of there being gluten introduced into her diet- Is she having any of the symptoms she had before...
  25. My biggest frustration is getting chefs (and the staff between them and us) to understand that we don't make these requests for fun but that we must eat this way. I do not mind paying more for a meal I KNOW is safe for my child. If you can cook something great for him (he's 7 and along with Celiac has life threatening food allergies to egg, peanuts, tree...
