  1. Because if the child needs accommodations in school, a formal dx is needed. Also, many people need it to maintain gluten-free for LIFE. OP, I am in the Cleveland area. Do you mind PMing me who your Dr is? We are in the midst of trying to find a new one. Thanks.
  2. I can only answer question 2 for you. Vit.D deficiency is very common overall, not just the Celiac community. Depending on where you live (I am in northern Ohio) MOST people are low in D.
  3. I am saying that IgE mediated allergies, which are the ones that an allergist is looking for would have OTHER symptoms above and beyond GI issues. If it is GI issues only, it is usually NOT IgE mediated. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link There are more as well. I...
  4. Again, for everyone suggesting going to allergy testing, please keep in mind that it is not recommended that you test just to test. Unless you have seen an actual reaction to something it is not suggested to test for it. Reason being that an IgE allergy test is only 50% accurate for a positive result. So even if you get a + test result, 1/2 the time there...
  5. Crystal, I think you are misunderstanding. 1) IgE allergies are test for via blood and/or skin testing. These are the allergies an ALLERGIST would test for. These are the ones that can/do cause anaphylactic reactions. Maybe you should look into the difference between IgE, IgG, IgA and other immunity. They are very different and testing for any of...
  6. I am thinking it isn't allergies is what I am saying. Honestly, if it is an intolerance issue, an allergist isn't going to be of much help. Allergy testing isn't very accurate to begin with so the "alternative" testing for intolerances is even less so. It sounds as if you have been doing a food log. Have you kept trace of issues as well? When we...
  7. What are you thinking it may be an allergy? I am not seeing a list of symptoms (you probably listed those elsewhere) but if it is GI issues, allergy testing isn't going to show anything. IgE allergies is what they test for and that I think you would know he has (itching, breathing issues, vomiting, diarrhea, shock). I have gotten second (and even...
  8. You may want to get everyone tested PRIOR to making everyone gluten-free. It is very hard to go back on gluten to test others. I would suggest getting that done prior to cutting it for everyone.
  9. My DS got the crazies after eating them. In comparing them to regular rice chex, my guess was the dyes in it. Not sure that could cause bloating but it may be something to watch for in other things.
  10. I have had success with the strips. I was also annoyed that they said nothing about refrigeration on the package and called them about it. I had ordered 10 strips I believe which was not cheap. They replaced them. Also when I was having trouble testing one of the things I needed they checked with the developers and called me back ASAP with further instructions...
  11. Hummus, crackers, fruit dip made with coconut yogurt, cupcakes, cookies, Enjoy life Trail mix, dips made with tofutti sour cream/cream cheese.
  12. Did they use the same lab? If they didn't it could explain some differences.
  13. I believe they suggest holding off on gluten now till 12 months minimum. Dr. Fassano is currently researching the time it is best to introduce it but in the small study, the later the better.
  14. It says only milk in the allergy info (I was just looking at the menu last night for myself but for D and E in other stuff). Not sure of any x-con issues.
  15. That is great news! Keep up the great work.
  16. Who diagnosed these "low level" allergens? Many/most of the alternative "allergy" testing is highly suspect in actually diagnosing things. The science behind it just isn't all that convincing. If these were done by an allergist, they should have explained that 50% of the time a + is a false + and needs further investigation (through food trials). I...
  17. The Chef/Owner of Noodlecat also runs The Greenhouse Tavern. Amazing food. They are great with allergies (dairy and egg for me). I would call and ask about gluten-free offerings. They would be as well versed as they are at Needlecat, I would assume. Maybe look at Lola. It's near GHT. Again, I would call. These are higher end places with actual chefs...
  18. I am sure the LC told you this but supplementing with formula can actually cause a further decrease in supply. As the baby nurses hormones are made that tell your body to make MORE milk. I didn't read through everything (I have an 8month old getting up to nurse or I would). You are doing great! Keep up the good work and I am so glad you were able to...
  19. If you ever expect to need to have accommodations (more restroom breaks, gluten-free food at school, a special microwave for her to make meals in) you MUST have a DX. Some people have chosen to deduct "special" foods on taxes as well which you would also need a dx for. I know it's a tough call but is a few weeks on the gluten diet worth knowing? Something...
  20. lol You forgot those little crumbs bouncing into the vents of oncoming cars and into the A/C and all over the person with Celiac driving in a great gluten filled cloud!
  21. Open Original Shared Link This is another group in the area. Welcome!
  22. #1-Allergy testing (both skin testing and blood) are only 50% accurate for a + result. That means that if there is a positive that only half of the time is there actually an allergy. What you are describing doesn't actually sound like a true allergy (IgE mediated) but something else. #2- I would think it more a possibility that the Celiac damage was...
  23. Sounds like you are in Australia, yes? If so isn't there something like a tax write off or government help affording foods if you are formally dx? Doing it or not is up to you. If it would be worth it for $ reason, it may be worth it for a formal dx.
  24. FWIW, the Pizza Hut apologized to this Mom and said they were retraining staff so in the end, bringing it in wasn't a big deal to them at all. I will say that the Mom said the kid had gluten AND dairy issues. I would never give my Celiac, dairy allergic kid a McDonalds fry. Ever. But to each his/her own, right. Also, there are plenty of place I would...
  25. I have found that flax goo in bread type applications makes things really gelatinous. I am not a fan. I have also found that rice milk AND rice flour seem to be overload on the rice and I get a gummy texture too. My pizza dough is pretty good but my shortcakes I made yesterday were really dry (which in this application wasn't too too bad as I just put...
