  1. If a fist degree relative is + it is suggested that a person get tested/retested every 3-5 years OR if/when symptoms present. Also, blood tests in kids can often be off. I would absolutely retest.
  2. If she's borderline positive AFTER 2 months gluten free, I would suspect her to be FULLY positive if you were't gluten-free at the time of the test. I would not get any more testing, you have enough. A positive is a positive especially if there was major improvement with changing her/your diet! I would be sure your next Dr. is willing to write a formal...
  3. We use Daiya Chedder and mozzarella. I have also heard they have some "block" ones now. Pepper jack and something else but I can't remember. HTH
  4. I have called countless vaccine manufacturers for the information. Could they be lying, sure. I do not trust big pharm for the most part however there is also the fact that except for the high end fancy food grade peanut oils, most people allergic to peanuts DO NOT react to what could possibly be in a vaccine which isn't there. It isn't know what causes...
  5. But it isn't. There aren't any vaccines that are known to have peanut oil in them. There are several with soy, egg and some with dairy. There is one inhaler with peanut oil in it but that's the only medication that I have found with nut issues.
  6. A) This is a pretty old article I saw no credentials in this as to the authors credibility C) I know far to many unvaxed kids with peanut and other allergies. It's kind of like the whole autism/vax thing.
  7. We are dairy, egg, gluten and all nut free. My DS was dx at 3. The age at which they are dx doesn't mean it's any worse BUT it is great because the sooner it's found and the sooner your little one goes gluten-free, the better for him!!
  8. When they are together they eat the same thing. Period. It isn't an option for them. Even when we go out, for example to Red Robin, DS can have a bunless burger or Chick-on-a-stick so if DD goes with us, those are her options. When she and I go for girls lunch, she can choose whatever. DS was diagnosed with food allergies before she was born and Celiac...
  9. I let my non-Celiac kid eat what she wants when her brother with Celiac isn't around. If they are together, they eat the same things (meaning I bring both kids food with me).
  10. Yeahhhhh!! That's great. And people will continue to say stupid things for like....ever I believe I had my sister tell me I was being a helicopter parent when we were at her house. You know, the house where the kids eat everywhere? Things with gluten in them PLUS things my kid has life threatening allergies to. Dumb. Really dumb things. And you will...
  11. Till you are at a party with a nut allergic kid
  12. If she's following a gluten-free diet, why would she be prone to "passing out"? I agree, there has got to be more to this.
  13. I guess I don't understand what you exactly are looking for? You can look at any pregnancy site for help developing a meal plan for your pregnancy and sub out the gluten containing items. Gluten isn't necessary for anyone so the best thing is a well balanced, highly diversified diet for pregnancy. Celiac or not, getting plenty of water and fruits and veggies...
  14. You have to be ON gluten to test the blood for Celiac (except the genetic test but that isn't diagnostic). We did three blood tests because we went to several Dr's but they were all +. Maybe check out Dr. Fasanos five diagnostic points to get an idea of what they look for. A + biopsy OR = blood work is needed for a Celiac dx but there are gluten sensitivities...
  15. Hi MindySue, Here is a link to the abstract of the publication (not sure where to find it without paying but I am sure it's available I just did a quick search as the kids are being crazy right now). The last line lists the criteria they are suggesting. Biopsy is listed but if you have the other 4, he (who is THE Celiac Dr. here in the US) says that's...
  16. This isn't exactly true any more. They are looking now at 5 criteria for dx. and a biopsy may not be needed. That said, I agree with not starting the gluten free diet until you see the GI, it's only a few days just to be sure they don't want to do the endoscopy. Hang in there!
  17. It is possible she was glutened. Another thing to look at is what has increased in her diet? There is a possibility the new thing you have replaced gluten with is a problem. I would keep a detailed food log and symptoms to see if there is a correlation.
  18. Can you tell me the name of this test? I have never heard of this and would love to be able to test my younger kids. As for the OP, I am not gluten-free (my blood work was - after my DS's dx). I DO NOT feed my younger 2 kids gluten (3 and 1 years old) in the home and I don't feed the baby gluten at all. Unless there is an OBVIOUS reaction I wouldn...
  19. Those are great ideas but we have a long list of actual allergies on top of Celiac so most of those won't work for us. I know all about thinking outside the box! lol
  20. It's listed in the lower range, but again, what is safe? We use the same thing. Plus rice crackers rice cakes, rice cracker breading for chicken, rice flour for pancakes in the morning, Rice Chex, rich crispy cereal...
  21. My husband and I were just talking about this today I am unsure. I haven't read the report because part of me doesn't want to know. I have three kids who all eat gluten-free at home, one being just a year old. DH suggested testing them for arsenic. Not sure what I think of that...
  22. Men....I don't get them A $10 colander, really??? lol My think with a colander is that if it's a fine mesh one, getting it REALLY clean it hard. Dishes and silver are easy to get really clean. A colander, not so much. We have basically a kosher kitchen for cooking but not eating. We have allergy/gluten free pots, pans, baking racks, serving utensils...
  23. My first though is what did you strain your ravioli in? If it's a cookware issue, this is the first place I would think. Is your strainer new and gluten-free? They can be really hard to clean. Hope he's feeling better really soon.
  24. Your GI wont be able to order the tests for your kids. Only a Dr. seeing the patient can order testing. You can have your Dr. send a letter to your Ped about the fact that it's genetic and they the kids need to be tested. If your Ped still won't I would seek out a new Ped or get a referral from your Ped for a pediatric GI who would most likely do the testing...
  25. Try a really good probiotic. I swear by Custom Probiotics. Thye sent me a 1 month trial for free. Within 4 days of being on it, my DS had his first normal BM f his life (he was 3 months gluten-free and 4 almost 4 years old). Great work on the gluten-free diet!!!
