ARCHIVED Baby Needs To Gain Weight Need Suggestions Advice Please!
StephanieL replied to mmcc54's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If she's hitting all her milestones and gaining, even a little, I wouldn't be overly concerned. She's gluten-free now and it may take some time for her gut to start absorbing things like it should. You can increase overall good fats (avocado, olive oil adding to things). Whole milk is another thing that may help if she can have dairy. My DS is very thin... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free 3 Yrs Now Hypothyroidism Is His Causing Constipation
StephanieL replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Is they thyroid issue being treated? -
I think you would be better off getting Diners cards made up for that. Pointing to a bracelet at a restaurant isn't going to explain anything to them. Telling them over and over and stressing the x-con thing is required. My child does have a medic alert. NO ONE at a restaurant has ever taken notice of it. Never asked about it. Never said a word. ...

ARCHIVED Starting A Local Celiac Kids Support Group - Should I Do This?
StephanieL replied to ImaMiriam's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you checked to see if ROCK has a group in your area? No use in reinventing the wheel if they have one. If not, it's a great group to get involved with and start a chapter in your area! Good luck!! -
ARCHIVED 3 Weeks gluten-free- Toddler Has Potty Untrained.
StephanieL replied to D-borealis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's common that they "lose" potty abilities in the training process. I wouldn't place blame on the diet. It happens often. -
I think unless your Celiac incapacitates you and you would be unable to offer up medical information, it is overkill. Medic alert isn't a "prove it" metal. It's to alert people to a medical condition. A T1 diabetic can go into shock and not be able to pass on info. A person with an allergy, same thing. Those are conditions that warrant people knowing what...

I've seen the pizza and they are not small. They should be plenty to feed an older child or adult. It's the size of most personal pan pizzas.

ARCHIVED 504 Plan
StephanieL replied to Gluten Free Girls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Theredoesn't need to be any learning deficits for there to be a 504. Also, the guidelines do not need to be suggested by the Dr. at all. The only thing the Dr. really needs to do is state how the disability effects the childs ability to carry out basic life functions. The accommodations most often are suggested by the parents as they know what needs to be... -
ARCHIVED Keep Pursuing?
StephanieL replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We had + blood work and neg biopsy but resolutions of issues with gluten-free diet. After the biopsy they gave us the options of scoping every 6 months (um, no) or going gluten-free to see what happened. With the strong family history, I would ask for the genetic test (which I would assume will be +) and have him go gluten-free as well. If there aren... -
ARCHIVED 504 Plan
StephanieL replied to Gluten Free Girls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just emailed our principal and then they called to schedule the review. Ours involves the teacher, principal, school psychologist and myself. We talked about possible bussing this year but didn't add it yet. Not sure I'm ready for that! lol -
ARCHIVED Children's Chewable Diphenhydramine (Benadryl)?
StephanieL replied to greenbeanie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was told today when I called that the grape chewables and the dye-free bubblegum diphenhydramine are both gluten free. Now the other stuff we are avoiding I am not as confident in the answer I got.... Hope that helps a little. -
ARCHIVED Children's Chewable Diphenhydramine (Benadryl)?
StephanieL replied to greenbeanie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Green, I know We are going through the same thing. I purchased two at Target but I have to call to verify (I got the liquid for school, I pre-draw and label the syringes and send them in with the original package). I also picked up the chews. Once I call them (I hope to do this this week some time) I will try and remember to get back to you. Maybe shoot... -
ARCHIVED Children's Chewable Diphenhydramine (Benadryl)?
StephanieL replied to greenbeanie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just a safety point here that Benadryl will not stop an anaphylactic reaction. Epi is the go to for an ana reaction. Please always follow your allergists Allergy Action plan!!! -
ARCHIVED Ttg Back Up After Anaphylactic Reaction?
StephanieL replied to StephanieL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did speak with his allergist. He thinks there is a possibility that there was enough immune disruption that it could very well have been a false positive. He said to keep doing what we have been and to recheck them in 3-6 months. I feel tons better now! -
ARCHIVED Pediatric Celiac And Hashimoto's
StephanieL replied to Nicnicsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Welcome and Hugs! We do deal with Celiac (that was dx 3.5 years ago) and just recently got to the root as to why his Celiac tests were wacky due to Hashi's. Our story is similar in the "All's well, alls well, alls well" dept. We have been through 6 allergist, 3 GI's 3 Endo's and a few others here and there for good measure. Here's what I would... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Back Up After Anaphylactic Reaction?
StephanieL replied to StephanieL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He feels fine. He's acting "Normal" (he's 6.5 ) His tTG's were back to normal for about a year after his thyroid issue was taken care of. He started at over 100 and SLOWLY went down after he was gluten-free (he's been gluten-free for 3 years). After a year and a half of them not returning to normal we started down the thyroid path so that's been under... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Back Up After Anaphylactic Reaction?
StephanieL posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So DS went to the endocrinologist today. Just a routine check up. So we are going through his labs. His D is high so we can cut his currant dosing. His TSH is spot on, yeah. His tTG is freaking high again. Not just a little high either. One point below "moderate/server positive". His last tTG was in January and it was FINALLY normal after years of... -
ARCHIVED Hives...milk Allergy Etc
StephanieL replied to seraphim's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you have been eating something for years with no reaction, you aren't allergic to it. If you drink milk and eat shrimp there is no reason you need to remove it unless you have issues with it. Allergy testing is about 50% accurate for a positive. So you can test positive to things you eat all the time. Also, many Dr's can create a scratch test... -
ARCHIVED Why Do I Have To Educate My Doctors?!
StephanieL replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's hard. BTDT. I was the one who had to push for an Endo to truly examine thyroid issues after 2 years of elevated tTG's after going gluten-free. Once on thyroid meds, his next tTG's were (finally) normal. 3 GI's wouldn't listen to me about the "little bit off" TSH levels being more than a "little" off since changes have been made to that scale and... -
ARCHIVED Daycare Troubles?
StephanieL replied to momma bee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is ADA law involving food issues in day care vs. school. The feeding IS the issue with the OP though. That's the problem stated here. I won't continue to muddy things with talk of other things since it's irrelevant to the OP. Sorry for getting things off track OP. -
ARCHIVED Daycare Troubles?
StephanieL replied to momma bee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree that this isn't a case about ADA law. This is 100% about teaching the daycare and/or pulling the child if they are unable to not feed her crackers when her parents are sending her food in to keep her safe. The ADA was a different tangent. The ADA does cover Celiac and schools have been made to provide accommodations including providing gluten... -
ARCHIVED Daycare Troubles?
StephanieL replied to momma bee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If ANY federal funds are taken in (I believe this includes vouchers) they are required to follow ADA laws. -
ARCHIVED Daycare Troubles?
StephanieL replied to momma bee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Perhaps we each need a flag under our names for such purposes. Not me, Great idea in theory but making camps/schools safe for everyone wouldn't really work. Top 8 free would help many cases but there are always oddball allergies and gluten and diabetic kids. I agree with trying to make them as safe as possible but "free" doesn't work in reality. I... -
ARCHIVED Daycare Troubles?
StephanieL replied to momma bee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Perhaps you should refrain from posting if you haven't read then entire thing in the future. It's a good practice to get into. CC isn't just in daycares, it's a fact of life. That isn't this issue here at all. I wasn't being harsh just stating the facts (as they are in the US which differ in many other countries as you have said). -
ARCHIVED Daycare Troubles?
StephanieL replied to momma bee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well then, I would look forward to eventually getting sued if this is an actual day care situation. Celiac is covered under the ADA so if you are looking to get into it with the OCR, have at it! This isn't about a sterileGF environment, this is about GIVING a child a cracker cause it didn't say "gluten". That's a big DUH on the schools part. I agree...
