  1. Allergies are genetic. There is no indication anywhere in reliable medical journals that vaccines have anything to do with allergy development. Antidotally, I am and know many parents who don't vax who have children with allergies. I am (third, fourth, sixth ing) that you may have picked something up on your trip. Hope you get something figured out...
  2. I think it's a nice idea. I would worry about the liability of the claim "gluten free" but I am sure you have already dealt with that! 1) No home baked products brought in (even better if school parties/birthdays were no food for other allergies!) 2) Practicing good hygiene with proper hand washing and stuff. 3) Vett all art supplies well...
  3. Google Daiya Mac and Cheese! Yummy, fast, not a million ingredients. My son had Mac and Cheese for the first time in his life 2 weeks ago. DH said it was better than the blue and yellow box I added a little mustard but left out the nutritional yeast and it rocked!
  4. There is no gluten labeling required in the US. Also, there are NO labeling laws for "same equipment/shared line/same facility" for ANY food/allergens. There is current legislation to change this but there are FALCPA regulations that are still being hammered out over 6 years later. It is about reputation and word of mouth and trusting your food if it...
  5. A reaction always trumps test results but a positive SPT or RAST test is about 50% accurate and a negative is 90+% accurate. So negatives are usually pretty reliable except in that 5-8%.
  6. As Skylark said, my son is on Mylan. I spoke with them within the past month. I have mentioned this in another medication thread that if it seems to be an issue you may have better luck getting a full, unopened bottle from the pharmacy. The pill trays they count meds on aren't cleaned between counts so there is a risk of CC with other meds that do contain...
  7. If they are that sensitive, I would think the only possible solution is to go to the school to change the "eat where you want" policy. This is a big problem. I would start by addressing the school about this and proceed to a 504 if necessary. Sorry that this is so tough. I know how hard it can be and we are only in preschool!
  8. Why would you let her do that? You know the risks of what she is doing and letting her participate is really reckless. So while you can be unhappy with the school for choosing to have this kind of reward, taking a dx lightly is just as bad. Would you let her have ice-cream is she was diabetic? She's a kid and you are letting her choose to make decisions...
  9. EE is not something allergy testing would find. So your daughter is reacting and you can't see it because EE isn't IgE mediated so that makes totally sense. Also, most Dr. want to scope often for EE to see if there are sections going on. That is common practice and real they only reliable way (as of now) that EE can be looked at. I know many Mom's of...
  10. Been there (Dr. Aktay) done that won't go back I think I may have found someone. I'll let you all know how it goes. Not that I have much faith at this point.
  11. That is absolutely not true. An allergy test shouldn't be done unless you see a reaction. Testing (skin prick OR RAST) are about 50% accurate for a positive and one 90% accurate for a negative. RAST testing will not tell you how server an allergy is, nothing will.
  12. I have tried that. I need to know that the Dr. understands the entire scope of Celiac as ours do not ( I had to dx my DS with hypothyroid as they weren't up to it to know the two often go together). Thanks though.
  13. BUmp. We really need a new Dr. Anyone know where I can look to find one?
  14. Drugs are not required to be labeled for anything pretty much. Some do but it's few and far between that do. I have a child who on top of celiac disease has life threatening allergies. I have to call EVERY drug maker of EVERY drug EVERY time because they are not required to label for anything (including Top 8 allergens). It sucks!
  15. I have looked at these and have never found anything but "fillers" listed. Including Top 8 allergens. Where would this info be listed?
  16. My child also has life threatening food allergies. They are not required to label ANYTHING in drugs. I have to call on everything and have many times had to forgo giving my kid meds for days while I get all the information I need to safely give it to him. It is a total pain and I can't believe they aren't required to include this information about the meds...
  17. I have been rounds with our pharmacy about this. I am the one who has to call the manufacturers. Thing is, esp. with generic, they get different brands all the time. It's whatever the distributer gives them. It can be any brand and all brands are not the same. Also, it isn't just YOUR pills you need to worry about. They trays they use to count pills...
  18. I would hold off for a few days before jumping on the "glutening" train. She could just be tired. Coming down with something. A million things. I know it's hard. Every time my DS looks at me strange I wonder "Is it something he ate?" because that is in the front of my mind. Usually it is just him getting sick or tired or being 5. Hang in there. Give...
  19. It would be nice if the levels dropped to "normal" that fast but in reality, they don't. I am actually surprised they retested at 2.5 months out. We go every 6 months to retest. I wouldn't be overly worried this early on. Keep doing what you are and see in a few more months. FWIW, my DS;s tTG's are still high but the other test that is more specific...
  20. Does your DD have symptoms that are bothersome to her? If not, making the change over a few weeks isn't going to change a lot but may make it easier for you. (We discussed this with our Dr. If you are unsure if it would work for your DD you should call them to be sure they are okay with this plan!) I chose to figure out "new" foods 3-4 per week of the...
  21. I think this is a sad case of not enough information and parents not vetting a situation prior to the opportunity. It is just so sad for the child
  22. Nice! Love it!
  23. I prefer stainless single piece construction. This way there is no place for "gunk" to hid in.
  24. I have never found any information on hair testing being accurate for allergies. Ever. Believe me, if it were accurate, every allergist would use (and we're had 5 and NONE of them use it). *IF* (and that's a big if) there were any accuracy to it, it still wouldn't be for allergies bt intolerances. All this said, even the "tried and true" allergy testing...
  25. Good is relative. I tried it when I had to go DF (nursing my little one) and it was BAD. Like I didn't finish what I made. We tried again a few weeks ago (I have been off dairy for 5 months now) and it was reasonably good. As with most subs, if you try them head to head, they won't every win. I think with some time (a month or two) you can pass it off...
