  1. Different families deal differently. We do NOT have an entirely gluten-free home (or allergy free for that matter). I do tend to make dinners friendly for everyone but there are nights that doesn't happen. My thing is, in the "real world" that he is going to have to deal with differences in his food so he needs to learn how to deal with those. There is...
  2. My son had the biopsy at 3 but his was "inconclusive" (more recently negative by Dr. Fasano) HOWEVER... we went gluten-free for him at 3 1/2. With his TTG levels and how fast they fell after 6 months gluten-free, I am sure there was just not a lot of damage and/or they didn't get a patch where it was. Honestly it is challenging but if gluten is the...
  3. It was WAY harder emotionally on us than my DS. He was 3 at the time. Call the hospital and talk to the Child Life specialist. They have ideas that may help. We do the "A day in advance for each year they are old" so we started talking about it with the help of a coloring book from the hospital. It helped DS get use to the idea he was going in and showed...
  4. We chose to do 1-2 products a week till we were all switched over. We have several other allergies as well so I had to really research what brands were going to be safe. DS was 3 at the time and d/t his allergies we were eating pretty much whole /made at home foods so it wasn't a huge deal. This also saved me from going crazy trying to switch everything...
  5. IgE is though of as a "true" allergy. These are the ones that can and often do lead to anaphylactic reactions. IgG are usually GI mediated responses or sensitivities. Basically, if you aren't reacting with things like hives, breathing problems, facial/lip swelling and the like, blood or skin prick test (SPT) aren't going to show positives. Negatives...
  6. ((((((hugs)))))) I am so sorry this is not working the way you are hoping. From one "not normal tTG but compliant" parent to another!
  7. The typical response from them takes 4-6 weeks, IF you even get one. Good luck! I would love to hear if they have improved on that at all since last time I know someone contacted them!
  8. Aldi's is VERY difficult to get answers from. Many in the allergy community won't shop there because they are so dodgy about information.
  9. Sorry, I have a bitty baby (4 months) and sometimes I start reading a post and reply in bits and I thought I read the entire post but obviously didn't per my dumb question about the biopsy and all! lol Has she had thyroid testing? I hear you about double checking every thing. We did the same things. Called, tested, called some more, emailed...
  10. First off, HUGS!!!!!! I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I guess I would start with a few questions: 1) What does the Dr. say 2) What were her labs all the times they were checked? Are they trending downward at all? 3) Did she have a biopsy? I ask because these were things we went through. We started at >120...
  11. Are you waiting on a biopsy? I assume that she's still on gluten or you wouldn't be asking. If it's all the sudden I would assume a stomach bug first. That said, if it continues I would stop the gluten if you aren't waiting for a biopsy.
  12. lol, I was going to third that.
  13. You have it or not. There are different symptoms but it's all the same disease. If the endoscopy came back positive, it doesn't really matter what the blood work says. Has your Dr. talked to you about these results and what you need to do now?
  14. You think this doesn't happen? I have been told not to trust the "dedicated" frier at several different locations. Also, I don't really understand why anyone would eat them when they list wheat in the fries and hash browns. If gluten-free is the cash cow they think it is, they would be all over pulling "wheat" to up revenue.
  15. This is NOT true. It varies from one store to another.
  16. Many times, the school prefer all correspondence go through them. I have found that parents respond better if the instructions come from the school, not "just" another parent. We keep a snack bucket in DS's class. It's there for whenever there are surprise parties and all. He's 5 and doesn't care (yet) if his treat is "the same" just that he has one. I...
  17. Will post more later but Welcome! You are welcome to my "kids not eating gluten" house any time here in NEO
  18. Open Original Shared Link This is a big hit in the allergy community! Maybe worth looking into for the future.
  19. While that is true, at school they often have "tools" to play with it with. That is my concern with crock contamination. On the "work surface" too.
  20. We have a laundry list of food allergies and Celiac. I have never been told/read/heard that allergies can elevate TTG's. I asked Dr. Fasano this question in person and he said no as well. The connection with EoE and Celiac is interesting. I will keep that in mind if we ever decide to scope again!
  21. Another go! When DS went gluten-free we did it over a few weeks. He was asymptomatic though so that had something to do with our process. I found 2-3 "replacements" a week for the big food items he ate. After about 3 weeks he was fully "weaned" onto a totally FG diet. If it's taken a year to get the dx, I am sure your are wanting to jump right in and...
  22. I am not sure where you live, but in the US a "may contains/shared line" warning is voluntary. So just because a food doesn't say "may contains" does not necessarily mean anything. Everyone has a comfort zone, I understand but I just want to be sure people know that just because it doesn't say it doesn't mean there may not be an issue. It is...
  23. 90% of people KNOW most of the food you get in any fast food place is bad for them and they continue to eat it. I live, eat and breath food because of food allergies and Celiac in my child. I know what too much and the wrong things do to a persons body. Has it changed the way I eat? To a point. I still get Whoppers when I go to Burger King. Sure, I know...
  24. We deal/have dealt with all the same allergies except oregano. The first thing I ask is have you SEEN reactions to these foods or are you going only by the allergy testing? Because the testing is 50% inaccurate. The TRUE test is food challenges. If your child has been eating these things with no reaction, you should really talk to your allergist ...
  25. If it's between no care and care where you may need to educate them a bit, I would go with the later. What "things" are you expecting them to check the baby for specific to Celiac?
