  1. I have to disagree with you on that one. Yes, gluon for a person with Celiac is bad but you are not going to die from one exposure. The use of quotes in "allergy" is just as offensive to someone with a true allergy as saying Celiac is a allergy to someone with Celiac. Rotation diets dare NOT for people with Celiac OR allergies!
  2. IgE- What is referred to often as a "true" allergy meaning it can cause an anaphylactic reaction. That is a reaction including 2 or moray body systems (skin, GI, respiratory and a few others I can't think of right now...it's early...I have a 7 week old who was up all night, forgive me ) IgG- Often said to be an intolerance. Not often diagnosed by...
  3. There was a man here in the states who went to jail for selling knowingly gluten containing foods to people as gluten free. I would not have let that food go out to that poor kid. I agree that this is why I don't trust others to cook for my family. It's one thing to slip up or accidentally have cross contamination but to KNOWINGLY do it is criminal in...
  4. WTG on a home water birth! I just had my second home birth (10/4) I am wondering if overactive letdown is a possibility? I know my little man gets really angry when I letdown. I try and take hi off and let the milk go onto a burp cloth and then re-latch him. If his diapers are fine, skin is fine and no "red ring" around his anus, I would not...
  5. So he wants her to damage her MORE before he'll say it's Celiac? I agree, you need to get a second opinion! If you need/want a firm dx, I would not go gluten-free till you see another Dr. If her markers were high and there is damage (why it matters how much is beyond me) I would think after seeing another Dr., going gluten-free to see if there is improvement...
  6. I am not sure what path you have been on but in my experience they aren't very good with GI issues. They will typically run an entero lab test, take away a ton of foods that cause "reactions" and charge you a ton. The entero lab testing is scientifically suspect as far as I am concerned but that part is my (researching, educated in the health care field...
  7. Butternut squash soup is easy and you can up the sweet factor with maple syrup or brown sugar. Good luck to both of you!
  8. Maybe call and talk to them? I agree that if you have no intention on putting her back on for testing it may be a bust. We are toying with the idea of taking DS to Baltimore because of wonkey blood work. Still undecided here too. He's been gluten-free for over a year after an inconclusive biopsy (but was totally asymptomatic) so...
  9. I believe Dr. Fassano says that a leaky gut is a requirement to "get" active Celiac. That was my understanding in a presentation by him I saw last April. That you can not have Celiac without a leaky guy. *My* thoughts are that you have something that opens the gut (for my DS I believe it was antibiotics) and that causes the gluten to permeate and cause...
  10. Please know there is a huge difference between allergies and intolerances. They are NOT the same and they should not be lumped together. Allergy testing for foods is 50/50 with accuracy for a positive result. If it's negative, it's 92% (or something like that) that it's accurate. The "gold standard" for food testing is a food challenge (eating the food...
  11. Chex cereal Rice crackers Mary's Gone Crackers Cherrybrook Kitchens pancake mix Bread (freeze it) Sunbutter Chocolate chips Much of the above I order with Subscribe and Save from Amazon You can give the Center for Celiac Research money by following the amazon link here: Open Original Shared Link
  12. What do you need help recreating? It isn't "easy" but if gluten is the only thing you have to learn around, it's totally doable! Some staples people here like (I have not tried them all as we have a long list of food allergies as well): Udi's bread Van's Waffles Rice cakes Chex's and the new gluten-free Rice Krispies Mary's Gone Crackers crackers...
  13. Do you ask them not to put the host in your wine? Cause the wine has host pieces in it from everything I have been taught (raised Catholic all my life).
  14. I think that there is something to it but as only a CONTRIBUTING factor. All my kids were born vaginally and my DS is dx Celiac. DD was tested but she was only 8 months old I believe and didn't have a ton of gluten exposure (but did through breast milk and some table foods). That said, she is gluten-free because it's easier and safer for the kids all to...
  15. You are legally allowed to take medical necessities. Your food is one. I would call and explain this.
  16. We were advised not to bother with the genetic test by our gastro Dr. DS has Celiac and the genes. We (DH and I) are his parents and are the parents of his two sibs. She said the chance of them NOT having the genetics is pretty low. I didn't ask %'s but I tend to agree.
  17. I would look into OAS, oral allergy syndrome. Sounds like it could be that. I agree with staying away till you get to or at least talk to your allergist!
  18. We are dairy, egg, soy, tree nut, peanut, palm/coconut and banana free because of ana food allergies and Celiac. It is possible! You can do this Mama! Enjoy Life is awesome to start with! Also , we got DS one of these for school and those unannounced treat things that come up at school: Open Original Shared Link Call and talk to them and...
  19. With food allergies and Celiac, DS can't have any candy. We do the Switch Witch here who takes the candy and leaves toys (Lego's this year). Also, we give out goodie bags free of candy to T-or-Ters, This way no kid will be left out no matter if they do/don't have food issues!
  20. It is hard I still get sad for my DS who was dx over a year ago. While I *know* it is manageable, it isn't ideal for any person. Give yourself time to be sad and know you will have moments like that pretty much forever. I think it's just part of being a parent. I wonder about dating, college (and no beer, will he be more likely to get into hard alcohol...
  21. What kind of reaction are you speaking of? GI? Hives? My DS has something called FPIES to bananas. It's not an allergy but it DOES send him into shock.
  22. If you have never reacted to nuts before, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that you would have a reaction like that from just being in the same area. Not impossible, but very very unlikely. (My child does have tree nut and peanut allergies, this is something we have gone over with out Dr. about) Could it be gluten? I don't know. Good luck trying to figure...
  23. Open Original Shared Link This was in the local paper today. Not specific to Celiac but does touch on the fact that Kosher and Halal meals ARE provided. I would think medical necessity would also be covered but could be totally wrong. Guess your DD just needs to keep out of prison so she doesn't have to find out
  24. This was actually a prepared ground mustard. The reading doesn't give and amount but I would be more inclined to think it was a cross contamination issue over something actually having gluten in it. The only questionable thing would have been vinegar but that *usually* isn't a problem. I hope you can figure things out! It is a journey for sure and it...
  25. It was a local store brand organic called "Nature's Basket" from Giant Eagle in the MIdwest/North East part of the US. We have since switched to Organiville. I believe you have a kid with a nut allergy (as do we) so I know the cross sections of gluten free and nut free is "fun" to navigate!
