ARCHIVED gluten-free Flax Seed? Flax Meal?
StephanieL replied to StephanieL's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
GREAT! Thanks so much! I get other stuff from them and love it. Just need to double check it is nut free as well (I believe all the gluten-free stuff is....I hope this is the case!) -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Flax Seed? Flax Meal?
StephanieL posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am in the market for flax to add to my DS's diet for fiber. Anyone have a gluten-free source? Organic is a plus to! TIA -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Celiac, But Not Allergic To Wheat?
StephanieL replied to Greg Rappaport's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Were these IgE allergies? Or intolerances? There is a difference in how they are mediated. IgE are the breathing, hive, shock causing ones. The ones *most* allergist consider "true" allergies. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed Celiac, But Not Allergic To Wheat?
StephanieL replied to Greg Rappaport's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Allergy testing is only 50% accurate for a positive result (92% for a negative). So even if your test is +, you may not be allergic. I would start keeping a detailed food log as well as symptom log and see what happens. If you don't see something clear, maybe go off ALL soy for a few weeks and see what happens. -
ARCHIVED How Would A Gluten Free Chex Mix Go Down With The Glutenoids
StephanieL replied to kellynolan82's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make a sweet snack we call "Monkey Much" for my kids. We have a long list of allergies as well as Celiac. 3/4 cup Sunflower seed butter 1 cup chocolate chips Melt these two together in the microwave. Add: 1 tsp. vanilla and stir Add: 9 cups rice Chex mix together (trying to be gentile) Put 1 cup powdered sugar... -
Did you explain why you needed the info? I would call back and ask for a supervisor. Also, you can call your pharmacy and find out if there are other manufacturers for that drug and call them. If they can give you the info, have you pharmacy order you THAT brand. Remember that a pharmacy DOES NOT always have the same brands for your refills. It's important...

ARCHIVED We Did Their Test Today.
StephanieL replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Open Original Shared Link I have heard great things about this on my allergy boards. I considered getting one for DS but he has become an old pro (at 4, which makes me as a Mom really sad) at blood draws. I just learned about it and the science behind it is pretty good (having been in the health care field and involved with pain management for a while... -
ARCHIVED Trying gluten-free Diet For 6 Year Old
StephanieL replied to sarah041604's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't think it's about being "abnormal". I think it is about creating a NEW normal. DS has to take his food with him everywhere (we deal with way more than just gluten!) It is just the way it is for him. He's young and so far it isn't a issue. I hear it becomes more of a problem as kids get older (middle school) when they try to test things more. -
ARCHIVED Nursemaid's Elbow
StephanieL replied to salexander421's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it's just a kid thing. It has happened to my son and my niece. One has Celiac and one doesn't. It's a body mechanics issue (ligament over bone because they are more bendy at that age to protect them) that rectifies over time. I would think if it were related to Celiac, we would hear about it happening with adults as well (called something different... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Deficiency--Poll
StephanieL replied to PainfulSpaghetti's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know absorption is an issue with Celiac BUT MOST people are low to very low in Vit. D. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think Of This Article Saying Celiacs Can Consume Gluten?
StephanieL replied to carecare's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it would be confusing for some. I think the point of the article is that if the Dr's are saying 20 ppm is okay, that the person writing the article is fine with the new FDA proposal. I do not think they are suggesting going out and eating 1.2 lbs of "gluten-free but 20 ppm" foods. -
ARCHIVED My Experience With The Disease, And How It Changed Me.
StephanieL replied to emilio's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So if I am reading correctly, you are 16 now? I want to say you are amazing and I give you so much credit for everything you have been through. I hope when my son (who is only 4 and the one who has Celiac here) is your age, he will be as strong, knowledgable and well spoken on the disease as you. The struggles you have been though sound like they have... -
ARCHIVED Please Tell Me I'm Doing The Right Thing.
StephanieL replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You are 1000% doing the right thing. No outward signs does NOT mean there isn't damage going on! My DS was 3 when he was tested. He had NO signs at all. He has other food issues and had a non-existent Vit. D level. This led the Enod Doc to test for Celiac. Here we are 18 months later and still working on getting his levels down. No signs and over... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Know Of A Forum For Food Allergys Linked With Behavior?
StephanieL replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There aren't proteins in food dyes, so it isn't technically an "allergy" but an intolerance. Most traditional Dr's won't test for them but you may be able to find a Do or Chiro who would test for them. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Help! I'm So Frustrated

ARCHIVED Is Gluten Free Ever Easy?
StephanieL replied to glutenfreewifey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Whole foods (not the store, but whole, outer ring of the grocery store) makes gluten-free easy. We were into whole foods before DS's dx but even more so now. It will get easier! Hang in there! -
ARCHIVED Help! I'm So Frustrated
StephanieL replied to Helena5150's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We recently had an issue where DS's levels were stalled after a year gluten-free. We have a long list of allergies as well so we are more careful than your ordinary parents. We stick with brands we know. We check, recheck and check again on everything. We *thought* that we covered everything but we were obviously missing something. There were only... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Magazine You Trust And Like?
StephanieL replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Could you remove the "offending" article? Honestly, this sounds like a great way to educate people about differences. Including teaching kids that people are different (ie some have Celiac, some follow different belief structures). I didn't think the article did much more than show how one person deals with Celiac, not about religion. -
ARCHIVED Time To Start Packing School Lunches Again
StephanieL replied to Darissa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If anyone has dairy/egg/peanut/treenut/soy ideas, I would love to hear those too! I like the list Mizzo! Grab from each to make it easy! -
ARCHIVED Baby Rash After Barley And Wheat
StephanieL replied to samie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Actually, it isn't too early to tell if it's an allergy. Kids can and often do have allergies from the very start. I agree with taking it out for now. Retry after you have achieved "normal/baseline". -
ARCHIVED Allergies Are Rampant....
StephanieL replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Okay, so those are markers for non-ana reaction! That's a good thing!!! I would look into "gut healing" as it sounds like you are and keep up with that for a while! Chances are that improving the gut will eliminate most if not all the intolerances! I have never tried it or looked into it heavily but I think the GAPS diet may be something to look into... -
ARCHIVED Allergies Are Rampant....
StephanieL replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's a lot! I assume you are speaking of IgG or IgA allergies, correct? These are more intolerances as compared to "true" (meaning possibly life threatening). The good news is that once the gut heals these often go away! I would think the probiotic and healing yourself with a gluten-free diet will help a lot! I say keep those things out and add them... -
FPIES is "food protein induced entercoitis syndrome". Long name for a non-IgE mediated food "allergy" that cause major GI symptoms that includes shock. So it isn't a food allergy but causes shock. I wouldn't list it as FPIES, his trigger is bananas for that so I would put that. I am thinking of listing his ana food allergies and FPIES and Celiac last...
-
No, he does in fact have life threatening allergies. (Hence, why I get upset when people lump them all together ) I don't think all that and his allergies would fit either. I am leaning towards allergies, FPIES trigger and then Celiac since it is the least likely to kill him.

I have a child who has both Celiac and a bunch of food allergies. I HATE when people say that Celiac is a food allergy BUT...I also get that people "understand" that an allergy means not eating a food for the risk of dire consequences. So I am getting him a Medic Alert ID (preschool starts soon) and was wondering what you all think. Put it as Celiac...
