  1. These are from memory and while I think I have it all correct, I am not 100% sure, I may be off by a few points in either direction. Original ttg (per the endocrinologist)- 148 GI Doc ttg- 152 GI Doc #2 ttg- 146 6 months gluten-free- 48 12 months gluten-free- 38 (For all this blood work, anything greater than 13 was considered POSITIVE) So...
  2. I agree. There may NOT be a dx to be had but there is still something you can do about it. While I understand WANTING a dx, it isn't what you need. You need to help your child. My DS was dx with food allergies at 18 months. A long list that we have been working through with elimination and food challenges. We are down to 8 allergies now. Yeah. His...
  3. We've been gluten-free for over a year and still have yet to see any real weight gain in our son. He was a big baby but he's so so skinny still
  4. Why would Celiac qualify for an IEP? Is an IEP not for Special Ed? I was always under the impression that an IEP is for disabilities that alter a child's learning process. A 504 is not as specific and is for things like food allergies/Celiac where there isn't an LD type issue but there do need to be changes for a child's safety.
  5. You can start with doing a search here. There is also a site (kids with Food Allergies) that has a lot of resources for parents wanting a 504 for food related issues. I know they aren't the same, Celiac and allergies, but they are in the same vein so to speak. My DS is only in preschool but I plan on getting a 504 for him next year in kindy for his...
  6. My DS is allergic to much more but everything you have listed. He's been eating fine for years on that diet, though it doesn't change much, I blame that on being a kid Your options are MUCH better!! Stick with whole foods! That's the #1 advice. Processed crap is just that, crap. Finding gluten-free options for some things you CAN NOT live without...
  7. I found this and while it's for food allergies it may give you a start. Please don't give up hope that you CAN change things. The woman I spoke with earlier said rice cakes and yogurt were the only things for her kid the first year or so but she showed us his current menu and it was amazing! You can get things for you kid into the school! Open Original...
  8. Because of our list of allergies on top of Celiac and that my DS is only in preschool we have not yet filed for one so I am sure there are people more well versed in this than I. What I know I know from other allergy sites and conferences. You can start by googling 504 plan. It falls under the ADA laws. You need to request a meeting to set up a 50...
  9. Do you have a 504 plan in place? If so, they are REQUIRED to get gluten-free foods in for your child. There is a woman (I have the name somewhere just not sure off hand) who speaks on this exact thing around the country and works to lobby for these things in DC.
  10. Yes! Very true. It is the only place I know of that a lot of allergy Mom's (those without peanut allergies) will let the kids have fries from because of that!
  11. It is ONLY the FRIES that are in canola now I believe. I believe the chicken is still in peanut oil. (This information is on the website as well!)
  12. Any positive allergy test, be it skin testing OR blood, is only about 50% accurate. A negative is about 92% accurate. We have a LONG way to go studying immunology! The only 100% accurate "test" for food allergies is a food challenge UNDER a Dr's care!
  13. I know this is an old post but I wanted to point out that food allergies are 504"able". If it's a condition that causes issues with learning (ie and ana reaction causing something like oh, death?) that IS something a 504 plan covers.
  14. Have you noticed if you have a problem with corn? Citric acid is very often corn derived.
  15. He does and no they don't. I didn't ask for that though they have said they would make it nut free if I wanted but I don't. He need to be in as normal an environment as possible and be able to deal so he has a nut free table but not a nut free class. I think if I would have pushed it we would have worked something out but I am 39 weeks pregnant and picking...
  16. Thanks! Good to know!
  17. I thought Celiac did increase your risk of colon cancer?
  18. I 100% agree that it is VITAL that we teach out kids cooking skills. I want my son to enjoy it because he needs to be able to do it for himself for the rest of his life! That said, it needs to be in a safe environment as well. He's only 4 and we found out within the first week of preschool that they cook once every other week. Nice to let us know We...
  19. We have a pretty extensive list of actual food allergies on top of Celiac. My DS (who is 4) has never eaten out. Ever. I am not sure I will ever feel comfortable with it.
  20. It was a HUGE hit here with my son till he was dx with a coconut allergy Way better than any of the other ones I have tried! Love the coffee creamer too!
  21. I am 39 weeks and was trying to freeze a lot too I try to make them gluten-free as well as dairy and egg free so we can all eat them. My kids have dairy and egg allergies and I assume I will have to go off dairy and egg with this one too. You already said Shepard's Pie. I did a few batches of soup (butternut squash, potato leek). Shredded chicken...
  22. I think a lot just depends on the parents, the child and how they choose to deal. It is two different things though, I get that totally dealing with both. My son "knows" not to eat things I don't pack. But he's 4. I have tried to roll play with him "Here, want a cookie/candy/treat?" and sometimes he's good at remembering and sometimes not so much...
  23. Kids that age don't always KNOW what they can and can't have. We as parents TRY to teach them but they are young and they forget. So I would not assume that the child knows what he can/can't eat. I would check with the Mom. Our rule is NO FOOD unless it comes from home. Ever. EVER. Even with that rule, DS got some juice last year which could have...
  24. Because we have a long list of other allergies (egg, dairy, all nuts and on) we use them exclusively because they are a dedicated facility! LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!! The customer service is great too! As for not needing a 2 layer cake, I agree. With the price of the mixes, I can't make them all the time. What I do for my kids (who are the ones who are...
  25. We asked that they either a) not use it, switch to a safe play-doh c) use it the days my DS isn't there (he's there 3 day/week). My boy is a finger sucker with still high ttG's and I suspect it is from things like this and things not getting wiped down properly It's totally possible he could get sick, as a pp mentioned. And I would 100% ask them to clean...
