  1. I tend to wing it a lot...but then I live alone. That is, unless I need to take a roast out of the freezer and then I kinda plan ahead. I also keep a stash of homemade soups, chili, etc. in the freezer for when I absolutely don't feel like cooking. Like tonight!!! When I had a family at home, I did a lot more planning than I do now. I also had...
  2. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are my "go to" indulgence. I have no problem with them. I buy the regular size but have never tried the mini's.
  3. Chicken breast, Lundberg rice (Wild Blend) and fresh green beans.
  4. I received my Cake Mix Doctor cookbook yesterday...super fast shipping since I only ordered it on the 24th. I also added two more cookbooks to get free shipping and finally used my Amazon gift card that I've sat on since Christmas. (The Gluten-Free Gourmet Bakes Bread by Bette Hagman and Free for all Cooking: 150 Allergy Friendly Recipes by Jules Shepard...
  5. I'm not sure what is in various canned frostings but if you want to get one by Betty Crocker, here's a link to the website that shows which frostings are gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link As far as frosting is concerned, it's not difficult to make your own and then you know exactly what's in it.
  6. I use Maybelline Great Lash Mascara (the washable kind)
  7. I finally ordered this cookbook! Has anyone tried some of the other recipes in it?
  8. I've not yet tried Rudi's but I find Udi's pretty good. A lot of gluten-free bread is better toasted. I have tried a number of recipes to bake my own but it seems that while it's really good the first day, the second day it's toast. If you are thinking of buying a cookbook, I've found that Gluten-Free Baking Classics by Annalise Roberts is the one...
  9. I've never had gene testing either and this topic also confuses me. I do know that I have celiac and my adult daughter has it, too. Since gene testing is not diagnostic, I've never even given it another thought.
  10. I bought a box of gluten-free Cocoa Pebbles when my 12-year old granddaughter spent the night with me. They came with a sample of the Cocoa Pebbles Treat. I had one bite just to taste them. I thought they were sickening sweet but she loved them! I'm thinking the Cocoa Pebbles cereal crushed might make a good chocolate pie crust (no additional sugar...
  11. I suspect the strawberry gelatin adds both flavor and color to the cake. I haven't made a strawberry cake since the 60's. And it also called for the gelatin. I've never tried adding cream cheese to a cake mix...have to try that sometime. I have had excellent results baking gluten-free mixes the first day but they definitely tend to dry out by the second...
  12. Thanks! They must be delicious!
  13. I made exactly one loaf of yeast bread with my hand-held mixer and it was almost impossible. The batter kept climbing the beaters. It was at that point that I bought a Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, which is probably one of the best things I've bought since going gluten-free. For quick breads, muffins, etc. I still use my hand-held. Sorry, I've never had...
  14. Pizza. I'm testing Annalise Roberts' recipe from Gluten-Free Baking Classics. Hope it turns out as I've had pretty good success with a couple of her gluten-free bread recipes.
  15. Udi's here, too. I want to try Rudi's, which I haven't tasted yet. And I have been experimenting a lot with baking my own bread.
  16. I'm not sure...there's a Mennonite-type store near here that used to carry them but no longer do so. I think there is another shop somewhere that carries them but have no clue where.
  17. Right, the positive biopsy would trump the negative blood tests.
  18. I don't know how it would translate with the recipes from Annalise Roberts' book either...wonder if some other adjustments would have to be made. If you try it, I think I'd cut the recipe in half so as to not waste ingredients in case you bake a brick.
  19. Do you think you could sub baking powder/baking soda to get the rise from it instead of yeast? I have no clue how it would work but Roben Ryberg uses it instead of yeast in her You Won't Believe It's Gluten-Free cookbook. And in her other cookbook The Gluten-Free Kitchen, she uses yeast for flavor but says it can be left out. Just a thought.
  20. Do you remember what kind of candy bars she used? I bet you could frost them with a chocolate ganache glaze, too, which is so easy to make and so sinfully rich. Or how about Andes Mints?
  21. No Whole Foods around here either but I'll tell my daughter, who lives in Denver and shops at Whole Foods.

    ARCHIVED Bilirubin"s Are Climbing?

Probably a barium sulfate solution...don't know if there are other kinds that might be used. I had VoLumen for an abdominal CT scan and confirmed beforehand that it is gluten-free although I sure ended up with the Big D, too.
  23. A friend of mine made the brownie mix and added raspberry chocolate chips to it. OMG, it was good!!!
  24. I have the newest version (2008) and the Multigrain Sandwich Bread is on page 160. I've also made the Basic Sandwich Bread on page 158 (made hamburger buns with that recipe yesterday - page 168). I used a muffin top pan for them or you could use the small aluminum pie tins. I have my eye on a couple of other bread recipes to try next. I'm pretty pleased...
  25. The brownies are also good if you add chocolate chips to them. If you like Fruity Pebbles, you may also like Cocoa Pebbles (be sure the boxes are marked gluten-free as they haven't been gluten-free for that long). There's another kind available, too, and I can't think of the name of it. There's also another kind that's not gluten-free. The boxes...
