  1. I may order from this company, Priia. Seems like good ingredients, non-toxic and gluten free. Has anyone tried this product? They have low cost samples to try. Open Original Shared Link
  2. Apparently, the celiac/gluten intolerant population has power! The following was copied from that so-called chef's facebook page: Former Glenwood chef's Facebook comments anger celiac sufferers By Heather McGregor Post Independent Editor POSTED: 03/31/2011 12:35:25 PM MDT UPDATED: 03/31/2011 12:39:15 PM MDT A former Glenwood Springs waiter...
  3. Excellent advice all around! I always have to take a deep breath and remind myself that I must be my own best advocate when we eat out. My spouse and friends are always supportive too, which helps. It can be intimidating, but I know I need to speak up for myself. (I admit, it's easier sometimes to just stay home. sigh.) I feel that I need to be a gluten...
  4. As others have said, I miss convenience, and the freedom to eat whatever, whenever, wherever, without thinking about it. I miss being anonymous when we eat out. Sometimes it feels like there's a spotlight on me that says "DIFFERENT!!", as I explain my dietary needs to the server. Often I'd rather just eat at home or bring my own. It's so much easier...
  5. I need rice bran for a muffin recipe, but can't find it. Haven't looked online or at Whole Foods yet. (Whole Foods is not convenient for me to get to.) Any suggestions where to find it? What does rice bran do in a recipe? Can I substitute something else? Thank you!
  6. You might check out Gluten Free Beauty. It's a new company, I think. I found them on Facebook. I've been using Bare Minerals for a couple of years, do well with it, except that I think it makes my eyes irritated. I'm thinking about trying the Gluten Free Beauty line.
  7. Somewhere I saw gluten free graham crackers. Has anyone tried them? Are they worth buying? Thanks!
  8. Fascinating! How would I find out more about this topic? Thanks!
  9. Thank you, Sylvia. That's what I thought, and it's good to know. It may be a moot issue with this product, though, because as I'm drinking my tea this morning, there's an after taste I'm not liking. humph. I guess I'll go back to the packets.
  10. I am completely self diagnosed, to the annoyance of my (then) primary care doctor. (We've since changed insurance, I had no issues with my previous PMD.) Since many fibromyalgia folks seem to be gluten intolerant, I decided to give it a try. And I felt better. Not a miracle cure, or suddenly turning cartwheels kind of better, just less sick. It's been...
  11. Thank you for your last sentence. I needed to hear that.
  12. I know this information is somewhere on this site, but I can't find it. Is maltodextrin safe? Specifically, I use Stevia in the Raw for sweetening tea, mostly. The packets contain dextrose and stevia, but the larger package of 'measureable' product contains maltodextrin and stevia. Hmmmm. The taste is similar, but the larger package is more economical...
  13. I, too, have fibromyalgia. I've been gluten free for 2 years, and it's kinda hard to remember the early days. But I do remember increased muscle and joint pain initially, and some depression, too. Hang in there, it will get better. I'm not cured, but my new rheumatologist told me I'm a 'success story', because I am able to work part time and maintain...
  14. Thank you! I checked them on facebook, and they are available in several stores, including where I usually shop! They sound yummy. I'll try them.
  15. Thank you for the links. I copied and pasted part of one article, and sent it to my mother and sister, both of whom could benefit from testing and a gluten free life, at least IMHO. They're both resistant to change, even though my mom is pretty desperate for pain relief from a couple of different immune based illnesses. Seems to me that eliminating...
  16. Last night we celebrated Solstice, Hanukkah and Christmas with our sons and one of our daughter 'out-laws', with a big family dinner at our house. She is so sweet, brought home baked Christmas cookies, and a separate plate of gluten free peanut butter cookies for me. It was such a lovely thing to do for me! Fortunately I'm not super sensitive to cc,...
  17. Thank you! I knew I could count on a quick reply. I appreciate your response.
  18. I have a recipe for corn pudding that I want to make. It calls for creamed corn, not something I normally buy. I searched this forum, but the most current post on this that I could find was from 2009. The Libby's website says theirs should be ok. Any suggestions about this?
  19. I have no idea what to say, other than {{{hugs}}} and a belated happy birthday! I hope you treated yourself to a gluten free cake. Shame on your family for being so insensitive.
  20. I didn't know stevia is related to ragweed. huh. I use Stevia in the Raw. It has no after taste, and no gluten that I'm aware of. Thank you for the information!
  21. ravenwoodglass, my thoughts, as well. Good idea about the diary, thank you. I suspect stress may increase susceptibility to reactions. Perhaps I created a 'perfect storm' for myself. We had breakfast out because we both had to do fasting blood tests, and had just done that. Not normally a problem, but the doc wanted lots of data, about 8 tubes' worth...
  22. Mushroom, I think that for me, fibro is exacerbated by eating gluten. I don't have severe GI reactions to gluten, more joint and muscle and nerve pain, and that awful flu-like ache at the cellular level that is so specifically fibro. I feel much better being gluten free, but not cured of the fibro, so there are other factors I haven't figured out yet. ...
  23. Well, it could have been a stress induced fibro flare, to be sure, although severe sudden onset depression has never been a symptom before. Gluten does exacerbate the fibro, so it's hard to separate the two variables. I don't ingest aspartame, ever, so that is not a factor. I did have hash browns, but don't generally have a problem with nightshades. I did...
  24. I am gluten intolerant, self diagnosed, and have fibromyalgia as well, have been gluten free for almost 2 years. So how do I know if a reaction is from getting glutened, or if the fibro is reacting? Or does it matter? This confusion is a problem in general, but specifically, last Sunday through part of Monday I had an emotional meltdown. We had breakfast...
  25. mbrookes, I baked cornbread using your recipe yesterday, and it is lovely. Thank you! A couple of changes, though, in that I did add 2 tablespoons of sugar, and put a tablespoon of unsalted butter in the skillet before I preheated it. Also, I made finely ground cornmeal by grinding the cornmeal (Bob's Red Mill medium ground) in my VitaMix. This is a recipe...
