  1. Have you talked to a doctor about carpal tunnel syndrome? An anti-inflammatory and a wrist brace might really help. It's especially important to sleep with your wrist in a brace if it's carpal tunnel. Celiacs do have a slightly higher incidence of carpal tunnel problems. Mine have always gone away if I take good care of my hands and wrists.
  2. I bet the corn chips were from a shared fryer. I find Pepto Bismol very helpful. Don't eat if you're not hungry. Have a little gluten-free broth or make yourself some Jello (yes, brand name is safe). I like ginger ale when my stomach is really upset. The ginger is soothing.
  3. You act as if this is new and exciting. Allergy testing has never been viewed as accurate by specialists. Problem is, overworked GPs and family practice docs order blood panels and fail to follow up with challenges because they can take a lot of time. Blood IgE is little better than the old practice of skin testing.
  4. I'm glad you figured out the cause of your health issues! A little more time and you can stop eating gluten for good, no matter what the biopsy says. Your doctor prescribing wine reminds me of mine, who told me to stop drinking coffee for my gastritis. If he had only said to stop eating gluten...
  5. What is the "normal" range on those tests, especially the fecal sIgA? Yes, what I'm saying is fecal anti-gliadin sIgA is a poor predictor of gluten intolerance. Trying the diet is MUCH better.
  6. I'm sorry you made yourself sick. As others have said, please look into why you are trying to harm yourself. We cannot continue to enable your self-destructive behavior here. It isn't even a fair thing to ask of us. What would you do with a friend who came to you sick and looking for comfort because a least once a month they deliberately ate a little...
  7. There is nothing aside from the celiac genes, so don't be nervous and don't worry about going in if you can't afford it. Some people get really upset about genetic tests because of other family members. He may want to be sure you understand that children and other family members could also be celiac, or maybe to answer questions about the diet.
  8. If that were my child you couldn't pay me enough to give her gluten. It is hard to get antibody results in kids and the Dr. that didn't do a biopsy while she was still eating gluten really did you a disservice with those climbing antibody numbers. Without the biopsy you have to go by the symptoms and assume she is celiac. The climbing antibodies also show...
  9. I wouldn't worry about the trace gluten unless you're hypersensitive. It's all the other stuff in there that keeps me from being interested in eating it. Sugar and corn syrup in soup mix? Ewwwww!
  10. All you need to do to find out about gluten sensitivity is to try the diet strictly for 3-4 months. See how many of your problems resolve. Then reintroduce gluten and see if you react. If you do react, you are gluten-sensitive and need to stick to the diet. That fecal sIgA is the same test as Enterolab. The only peer-reviewed study I've seen demonstrated...
  11. Genetic results are interesting, but 99% of all Americans have a gene Fine labels as "gluten sensitive" or "celiac". Do you see the problem here? You send your money to Enterolab, you get a paper that says you have a gluten intolerant gene. May as well skip the testing as it's a foregone conclusion unless you're Indonesian, Japanese or from the Andes Mountains...
  12. This is great to know, especially exactly what they estimate as the ppm gluten.
  13. I should mention I do buy some rice pasta. Trader Joe's has it for $1.99 a lb so I don't feel nearly as ripped of as paying $7 for bread. The other thing I do buy consistently are the Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats.
  14. Be CAREFUL at Subway. I've gotten shredded cheese on a salad with breadcrumbs in it and had to throw the whole thing out. I wouldn't eat there unless they have separate toppings for gluten-free, which is unlikely.
  15. Nobody has ever found gluten in wines, even with the practice of sealing barrels with wheat paste at some wineries. As long as your priest or minister takes care to keep your wine separate from the host, it is safe to drink.
  16. It's a rare treat for me. I pretty much eat meat, vegs, fruit, yogurt, potatoes and so forth.
  17. Hi, Rob You sure sound celiac, or at least gluten intolerant to me. If that genetic test was HLA-DQB8, you do have a gene that increases risk for celiac. I don't know what CW7 means. What you need to ask for is a celiac panel. It should include anti-gliadin IgA and IgG (often abbreviated AGA), tissue transglutaminase IgA and IgG (abbreviated TTG),...
  18. Yeah, I think you got glutened. Pepto Bismol helps me too. Did you start eating anything new or eating out somewhere different? If you don't get a decent explanation from your doctor, feel free to ask questions here. A lot of us know a fair amount about celiac disease and other GI issues, having experienced them first-hand!
  19. Welcome to the exclusive online rice and potatoes club, Derek!
  20. It's a good diagnostic lab. Another option is Enterolab for genetics. They send out to the Red Cross and test B chain only but they test for all the different B chains.
  21. Celiac can come on fast and you are not a prisoner to your doctor. The treatment is diet anyway, and you are in control of it. You have the positive blood test, which is enough to diagnose celiac-caused neurological problems anyway. You are early enough in the disease that you may or may not have a positive biopsy. A recent study showed that biopsy-negative...
  22. Oh, wow. I really miss creme rinses. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.
  23. I have a few friends whose cooking I trust. One is very soy intolerant and she totally understands CC and sensitivities. Another is gluten-free and "gets it". The third makes super simple gluten-free food like rice and lentils with cumin and an onion when she brings stuff to parties and her food has never given me any trouble. She has even called ahead...
  24. We'll make a southerner out of you yet! Glad you enjoyed your breakfast.
