  3. Too funny! I guess I'm a southerner because the idea of sweet grits sounds gross. I eat plain grits as a side dish for eggs with butter, salt, and pepper. If I want to get fancy I use any combination of cheese, chunks of sausage, sliced ham, or crumbled bacon.

  6. Lactose intolerance is dose dependent. A little like milk in a piece of chocolate candy will be OK for most folks with lactose intolerance. A big glass of milk will pretty much always cause trouble. The amount you can tolerate is different for everyone and the only way to find out is to experiment a little.   7. Your doc is an idiot. Deamidated gliadin is 98% specific for celiac disease and combined with the TTG there isn't much room for doubt. Get biopsied as fast as humanly possible (or opt out entirely) and stop eating gluten!

  9. What's secret about Enterolab? They test for fecal IgA. Problem is, it's not necessarily meaningful. If you come up positive on Biocard you're celiac and need a biopsy, but it has similar sensitivity to doctors' tests with a high false negative rate. If you test positive for TTG at Enterolab, you need medical followup but it could also be microscopic...

  11. Gas is probably lactose, raffinose (the sugar in legumes and cabbage family plants), or fructose malabsorption. You might try some Lactaid milk and there's a gluten-free version of Beano called Bean-Zyme. Fructose malabsorption is a little tricker with the diet, but there is some info here.   12. LEAP is definitely not devoid of controversy. As far as I know, LEAP will not pick up celiac disease. They are not looking at the right cells. I can eat a little wheat sometimes with no obvious consequences; other times I react to ridiculously low amounts of CC. It's not predictable but I feel dramatically better on a very strict gluten-free diet....

  14. You are not celiac by blood panel - you've had enough negative IgG tests that would show celiac even if you were IgA deficient. The deamidated tests are new and somewhat more sensitive than the older tests. It does not mean that you are not seriously sensitive to gluten. Stick to the diet and give it a little more time.   15. If you are IgA deficient, your total IgA will be low. You have not told the group a total IgA. Did your doctor run one? I think I tried to explain your celiac tests once before to you and we figured out that the 1 and 2 are your real test results. They are not mistakes or typos, but simply negative results.   17. It takes much longer to really recover from celiac than most folks think, especially since it takes a long time to master the diet. After five and a half years gluten-free, the only thing that has not resolved is my Hashimoto's thyroid disease.   18. Me too. I find it hard to believe that there would be gluten on the mature fruits. Dates are well-known to have a laxative effect though. They have a lot of fiber, sort of like prunes. Overindulging is usually a bad idea.
  19. All the Tiger's Milk Bars except for the crunch flavor were gluten-free and have no oats last time I checked their website. There are also the Nature Valley Nut Crunch bars. They are marked "gluten free" on the front of the box and contain no oats.

  21. You want the blood tests because they provide a simple way to follow your response to the diet if they're positive. Any TTG that's present should fall to zero with the diet. You have to gluten yourself up for 2-3 months for the biopsy anyway, because it's as meaningless as the blood test on the gluten-free diet.
  22. Everyone's gluten reactions are different. It could be a virus but if it's still going on the 27th when medical offices are open again you might want to put in a call to your doctor. I assume you are testing your blood sugar and it is within acceptable ranges? My friend who is diabetic got very tired and dizzy when her blood sugar got out of control.
  23. I would never go back to electric. Gas stoves crank out the heat when you want it and changes in flame are instant so you can go from full boil to simmer much faster than electric.   24. It's a sad state of affairs when a meaningless and woefully overpriced piece of paper is more validation than ones own body. This is not aimed at anyone in particular, just something I find deeply disturbing over and over on this board.
  25. It's the fact that it takes SO LONG that makes me think it's more likely to be celiac and less likely to be an allergy.
