  1. When I have friends over for dinner, they generally don't notice the food is gluten-free. I made Costco pulled pork with a gluten-free barbecue sauce and served it with rice for the party. Someone commented on how different and good it was with rice instead of bread.
  2. OMG they stuck you on Seroquel too? You poor thing. I had to take it once when I went 10 days without sleep from a manic epsode. It knocked me out so hard I slept for almost 48 hours straight. Awful stuff but it saved me from being hospitalized (or dead). Talk about brain fog - I was afraid to drive. Look, if you're dying for paper go to Enterolab...
  3. You do NOT have to be positive on any of the genetic tests to have celiac. They only assess risk. Your doctor who says you are at elevated risk for celiac with one copy of DQB1 *02 Positive is absolutely correct. Having DQA1 *05 Negative puts you at somewhat less risk, but YOU HAVE VILLOUS ATROPHY!!!
  4. Udi's makes pizza crust???? Yum! I haven't heard of people getting CC'd from Udi's. Guess it's the cheese. I was intolerant to cow casein for a while after starting gluten-free. Happily, I could eat some goat dairy.

  6. I feel for you. I had to go onto a strong antibiotic for bronchitis and it has the yeasty beasties romping about my body again. Still trying to decide if the first round of Monistat did the trick and working on getting my gut working properly again. Some herbal suggestions. Tea tree oil powder is good for nethers.   8. If it makes you sick, don't eat it. Avocados are fairly allergenic so you might have a mild allergy to them.
  9. I have one of those friends who picks and chooses as far as gluten-free. She knows she gets sick if she eats a lot of wheat but apparently she's not sensitive enough that she can't have a cookie here or there. She's celiac negative and probably just a little allergic. To her credit, she did bring a wonderful gluten-free pasta salad to my pot luck along...
  10. I don't think this is withdrawal. I think the poor thing is just still really sick from that gluten challenge. I assume she had a full medical workup and found nothing definitive.   11. There is a REASON I hardly ever buy cookies, gluten-free or otherwise. I claim no responsibility for the rapid disappearance of an entire package of chocolate coconut macaroons. It was um... the pantry hedgehog. Yes, the hedgehog that lives in my cabinets. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  12. Oral allergy syndrome can come and go. I used to react to melons (ragweed cross-reaction) but now that I live in a part of the country where ragweed doesn't grow, I eat them comfortably.
  13. There's no point in getting sarcastic. Yes, they really are that ignorant. My second cousin farms, and he got some new city-slicker neighbors down the road. They were him asking about vegetables because they couldn't figure out why their potato plants didn't have any fruit. They had no idea they had to dig them up!
  14. I got pretty sick on a day I ate Ener-G crackers too. They were the only processed food I ate that day or the day before. I'm not soy sensitive and there is nothing listed in the ingredients of those crackers that would suggest a problem for me. I wonder how carefully Ener-G is testing their raw ingredients for gluten?
  15. My family was the same as Ravenwoodglass. Mom saw how much healthier I was and started noticing that her stomach hurt after eating a lot of wheat. She had tests and is DQ2 but not celiac, but she sure feels better gluten-free.

  18. Welcome, and I hope you figured out the source of your health problems. For starters, most celiacs find that they are sensitive to dairy so skip the cheese and yogurt for now. Once you are healed and sure you tolerate it, cheese is great on a gluten-free diet. I tend to shop the "outside" of the grocery store. Pretty much all produce is gluten-free...

If he has normal energy, seems to be absorbing his food, and is getting good nutrition (no deficiencies on blood work), you might be worrying too much. There are documented effects of gluten peptides on innate immunity, as well as celiac humoral immunity, and documented effects of wheat germ agglutinuin on some sensitive people.   22. The more you cook fresh, whole, gluten-free foods for yourself the better. I don't have to read the labels at all when I make my own soup. You eat healthier, more nutritious food, and there is less chance of gluten sneaking in. Minimize eating out, and stick to places you know are gluten-free.   23. Thanks, Janet I got another call from the center confirming my appointment and they actually said something about dense tissue. I guess they just couldn't see everything.   24. I don't know. I have never run across soy paper! Maybe someone else can tell you. You might ask if there's an English ingredient label they can show you the first time you eat it.   25. The trick with sushi is to stick to plain raw fish and sushi rice and bring your own soy sauce. Then you're eating naturally gluten-free food. The best thing to order is nigiri or sashimi and rice. Edamame, pickled veggies and ginger, and things like cream cheese or cucumber are OK too.
