  1. Thanks! Some people pay attention to the post ratings so I always feel bad when I goof.
  2. So the bloods agree with your symptoms? That's a hard situation. People claim that GAPS and SCD diets help with leaky gut and intolerances. Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link if you're curious. Lamb is low-allergenic, and very few people are sensitized to exotic meats like bison. They're expensive but maybe a couple servings a week...
  3. As Squirmingitch said, if you get a blistered, very itchy rash you may have dermatitis herpetiformis. The rash is autoimmune and if that's the case you DO have celiac. I don't know how the skin biopsy is done in someone with selective IgA deficiency but someone in the DH part of the forum might. Other than that, really all that's left as far as bloodwork...
  4. Gah. I worked in an ice cream parlor. Fragments of ice cream cone can snap off the edge of the cones and fall into the tubs. There are also often gluten-containing flavors like cookies and creme and you have no way of knowing whether they are consistently cleaning the scoop between flavors (probably not). Add the gluten sundae toppings like crushed oreos...
  5. Autoimmune gluten sensitivity is the definition of celiac disease. You are getting some really weird medical advice.
  6. I didn't get a diagnosis. Gluten makes me too sick and my Dr. says that it's hard to get a positive blood test. Life is too short to waste two months with major depression, canker sores, GI trouble and all my other gluten symptoms. With the numbness you are even risking making the neuro damage worse. I'm not finding any lack of followup care as far as...
  7. Getting gluten-free recipes to work in a bread machine is a matter of adjusting the moisture and xanthan gum amount so that the rise and baking times work for that particular recipe, just like with normal bread. It will take some experimenting to adopt whatever recipe you've found to your bread machine. Also the dough hook on my machine doesn't mix sticky...
  8. You are in a difficult position. The current two tests usually used used are TTG IgG and deamidated gliadin IgG. Some doctors also order anti-endomysial IgG (called EMA sometimes), which is an older version of TTG but not all labs run it. You may get some resistance, particularly from this ignorant-sounding doctor because many doctors don't realize that...
  9. It sounds like you simply have a lot of false positive results on this sort of intolerance testing. You can't be intolerant to everything. I'd start a food diary and choose my lowest scoring foods, whatever they are. I'd see how I feel after a week, or two at the most since it will be a restrictive diet. Then I would add back other foods one at a time...
  10. Ack. I hit the minus when I meant to vote your post up, Colleen! Those buttons are too small. That's great advice about not stopping and starting thyroid meds. Very important!
  11. If you did get a different guy on the phone at Kraft, I'm really starting to wonder about the accuracy of the information on their website. There is a pretty serious discrepancy between what Peter quoted and what their telephone reps are telling people. Do you trust the website or what the telephone reps are being instructed to tell customers???
  12. I think you just need a little more time. If you can time taking it in the morning it might be good but it's more important to take it on an empty stomach.
  13. Try this article on thyroid and adrenals. Maybe it will help. Open Original Shared Link
  14. I have less trouble with depression and more energy on armour compared to levothyroxine. It also fixed the autoimmune inflammation I kept feeling at the base of my throat. It usually takes me about 4-6 weeks to start to feel better on a new thyroid dose, and as long as three months for symptoms to fully resolve and TSH to fall. You can still have some...
  15. Interesting. I used to be borderline anemic too.
  16. For me a canker sore is a sure sign that I've gotten glutened! I hope you can get to the bottom of it. I hate those things. Ouch!
  17. I think you're right about wanting to be well-nourished before having a baby. If the timing were reasonable I think I'd want to wait a year or so before TTC. I've just been reading Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food by Catherine Shanahan and she talks about the subtle effects of being really well-nourished on babies. Also start your prenatal...
  18. I'm on 90 mg of Acella thyroid, and I take it in the morning. It's a generic for Armour. I gradually lost ten pounds in about three months after getting on the right dose.
  19. As Peter says, normal yeast extract is fine. Brewers yeast that you might find in supplements or "superfoods" has gluten because it's a by-product of brewing beer.
  20. Wow, that's still sort of inexcusable from someone who went to medical school. Well, there's that joke - "What do you call the worst student in a medical school graduating class?" "Doctor." Good luck finding someone who understands celiac better. I think your labs are fine.
  21. Major companies like Ore Ida or Frito Lay tend to label gluten-free only if they can guarantee that the food is under 20 ppm. It's in accordance with the proposed FDA regulations. That's fine for most celiacs but a few are so sensitive that they have trouble with gluten-free processed foods. If you suspect this in your daughter you will also have to take...
  22. When my metabolism comes up from thyroid medicine I will lose weight even though I eat more. I think you can burn more food faster with your thyroid working correctly. Eating carbs/sugar before bedtime sure makes me tired!
  23. All your tests are negative because they're <15. It's very risky to compare values <15 because they are noisy, but what was your gliadin IgA after one month of consuming gluten? If the trend is increasing I might continue the challenge if I wasn't too sick.
  24. Wait, what??? Is this note from an MD who actually went to medical school or some flaky naturopath? It reflects a profound lack of understanding of how immunoassays work and you need to run screaming from this practitioner!!! Your tests are negative, you're doing great. Antibody tests are almost never zero because antibodies naturally cross-react, producing...
  25. So stop nitpicking my posts, perhaps? It gets really old.
