ARCHIVED Only Igg High....am A Celiac?
Skylark replied to shanluts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the rest of the story. Yeah, it sure sounds like celiac. Damn doctors. -
ARCHIVED Selfish/lazy To Stay In Bed?
Skylark replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ugh, sounds like depression is a big gluten symptom for you. Forgive yourself for being sick and needing rest! I hope you feel better soon. -
ARCHIVED Only Igg High....am A Celiac?
Skylark replied to shanluts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Most "gliadin IgG" these days is deamidated gliadin peptide, not the AGA Beachbirdie posted about. That is a very sensitive and specific test for celiac and it's the IgG that tends to be positive. If you know what lab ran the 2011 test you can call them and check what you got. If you have gliadin peptide IgG positive and feel awful on gluten I'd say you... -

I love this board. Two years on here and I am still learning new and helpful things. -
ARCHIVED Disturbing Message From Kraft
Skylark replied to RPM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think these reps know what they're talking about. The chances of finding barley or rye hidden in natural flavorings is slim to none. The only possibility is barley malt, which I've never seen in BBQ sauce. Also barley malt is expensive so it's usually listed separately as a luxury ingredient. I'd be willing to bet the "gluten" in the natural... -

This is a really important finding. I wonder how many people on the board have this instead of celiac! -
ARCHIVED Home Testing Kits For Celiac?
Skylark replied to JenniBea's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You order a Celiacsure home kit from here. They will ship to individuals in the US. It is a TTG test with the same risk of false negatives as any TTG blood test. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Results "possible Celiac"
Skylark replied to lorah322's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I went gluten-free on my own too. I had the same problem you did, where nobody suspected celiac. This was well before celiac was in the news so doctors weren't thinking of it, but I still had an awful lot of symptoms for them to miss it. I am not willing to poison myself for even a blood test. Maybe eventually there will be testing that doesn't' require... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Results "possible Celiac"
Skylark replied to lorah322's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Increased intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs for short) are white blood cells that have migrated to your intestine in response to inflammation. They are not normally there. They are the first step in developing celiac disease. There are other things that can cause increased IELs to appear in a biopsy so doctors won't diagnose if that's the ONLY sign of... -

68% of an ultra-rare cancer is still ultra-rare. You have a better lifetime chance of getting struck by lightning than of getting EATL. Heck, you have a better chance of dying in a car accident before age 60 when the 1 in 50,000 EATL risk even kicks in. You are not assessing risk realistically and letting yourself freak out over nothing. -
ARCHIVED Ana - Anti Nucleur Antibodies
Skylark replied to MistyRG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Testing is only one part of the story. Doctors use your symptoms, history, family history, genetics if they're available, all sorts of tests, and even details like places you've visited (for tropical diseases) or environment to arrive at a diagnosis. This is why doctors are so cagey when all you have is a diagnostic test result - they are only a small part... -

Nope, you can't rule out celiac without the so-called genes. Just ask the DQ9 and DQ6 celiacs on the board. -

Don't panic! You will be FINE on the gluten-free diet. Lymphoma and refractory celiac are rare, rare, rare. It sounds like you have read a little too selectively, mostly looking for the frightening stuff. Did you look up the actual rate of the lymphoma? The lymphoma only happens to one in 50,000, and usually in people over age 60. Nobody your age gets... -

Gotcha. So you have both allergy and celiac symptoms. The anemia and bloating are more celiac, the blistering and swelling is more allergic. Wow, sounds like wheat is bad for you in all kinds of ways! I wouldn't worry about repeating the allergy tests. Maybe they can run a celiac panel this week, just in case you ate enough gluten for it to switch... -
ARCHIVED Got Biopsy Results, Need Opinions.....
Skylark replied to Raven815's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Interesting to see how she turned around with the immunoflourescence results. Doctors can't admit they were wrong; they risk malpractice lawsuits. Kind of messed up that our court system has dehumanized them in that fashion. It's a shame you didn't get the celiac blood testing before you went gluten-free. Yes, you would need to re-gluten after four... -

I'm very glad you are stopping by the clinic and not eating more gluten! So you're aware, antihistamines do not affect celiac testing at all. If your allergist told you this, he is an idiot. Allergy and celiac are completely separate immune responses. Also, food allergy testing is VERY unreliable and if a food gives you allergy symptoms that respond... -
ARCHIVED Ana - Anti Nucleur Antibodies
Skylark replied to MistyRG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Antibody tests don't directly measure what the immune system is doing in the way you seem to think. This is why food intolerance testing is so woefully inaccurate. All antibody tests show is that you have an antibody that *might* trigger autoimmunity and the resulting inflammation. False positives on autoimmune tests like ANA or TPO are not that unusual... -
You poor thing! He sounds as narcissistic as my ex. How the heck did we pick these guys? I know how hard it is to leave because I stuck around for six months after he quit therapy and told me it was all my fault, still stubbornly refusing to admit my marriage had failed. It really sounds like you need to get it over with and leave. I know there's a bit...

ARCHIVED Doctor Believes I Have Celiac Disease
Skylark replied to sgm405's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome from me as well. Gluten intolerance/celiac can cause all the symptoms you are describing. The tests are only maybe 75% sensitive, the other 25% of celiacs don't have positive blood tests. With all the GI history I'd push for a celiac biopsy before I accepted a diagnosis of MS. The ANA does show you have some autoimmunity going and autoimmune diseases... -
ARCHIVED Swollen Neck Absolutely Insane
Skylark replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm thinking you should ask about a wheat allergy diagnosis and be done with it! You may have celiac as well but it really doesn't matter as far as wheat being poison to you. Please be careful about the breathing. I'm still worried for you if you didn't get to urgent care today. Call an ambulance if you get worried about breathing because that can... -
ARCHIVED Ana - Anti Nucleur Antibodies
Skylark replied to MistyRG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Um, that linked to a Google search? Autoimmunity causes inflammation, but ANA is NOT a measure of inflammation. It is a test for the possible presence of autoimmunity. Autoimmunity is only one of many different underlying health problems that can cause inflammation, but the presence of autoimmune antibodies does not guarantee that there is an active... -

That makes me wonder about thrush though I've never had it to know what it looks like. Anyway, you really do need to get to a Dr. As I re-read your posts I am very concerned about you. With the severe reactions like blistered lips and throat swelling you need to find out NOW whether there is any chance you could push yourself into anaphylaxis. -
ARCHIVED Disney Fry Batter Recipe
Skylark replied to squirmingitch's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
In case you all didn't see the other thread, this is a crispy, light batter that Disney uses for deep frying. It's every bit as good as beer batter on onion rings or fish and chips. When I remarked on how good the batter was, my waiter said that many employees there prefer the gluten-free batter over wheat because it comes out so nicely. Thanks a million... -
Sweet! Can't wait to try it!
