  1. I'm so glad to hear you had fun and didn't get sick!
  2. Welcome to the board! If all the testing is negative, you may have non-celiac gluten intolerance. It's much more common than celiac and very few doctors recognize or diagnose it. Gluten causes an inflammatory reaction in your intestines, and the inflammation interferes with absorption and makes you feel tired. Some people who are gluten intolerant...
  3. First, keep coming here for support before you hurt yourself. I'm really sorry to hear you're suffering so badly. Lack of nutrition is probably affecting your mind. Some B-complex, vitamin C, and fish oil or 2-3 servings of fish a week might help you cope better. You may not be getting enough vitamin C on a meat/nuts/eggs and that will make you depressed...
  4. Thanks for digging that up. The link doesn't work but I can probably get it through the group and make sure Mom has seen it. I think she's read everything there. She reacts like you with a lot of discomfort from brown rice.
  5. Ugh. Me too. They better not be contagious over the Internet! I find I have to go onto broth and clear liquid for a couple days, then add a little rice and applesauce for a couple more. If I try to eat normally while I'm recovering I stay nauseous a lot longer.
  6. I don't know how health insurance works in Canada. In the US if you have celiac symptoms the celiac panel is usually covered. If you have to pay out-of-pocket here is a home test kit at Open Original Shared Link that costs a little less, although it won't catch every case of celiac. It is good to know whether you're celiac because you have to be very strict...
  7. GAPS/SCD muffins made with eggs, squash, honey, and almond meal. Black coffee with honey. I'm feeling much better grain-free/dairy-free, dammit.
  8. Got my fingers crossed for ya'. FM isn't any fun but knowing you have it beats being sick all the time.
  9. Celiac can cause a LOT! Nutritional deficiencies from malabsorption can affect your entire body, plus the autoimmune damage can mess up your skin, gut, endocrine, and nervous system. You can have anything from GI problems to neuro damage to psych disorders to infertility and early menopause to eczema, psoriasis, or odd rashes. I had hair loss when I...
  10. Wow. They don't read very carefully, do they?
  11. The "Normal" flag is probably a mistake then and you are celiac. The positive TTG is supported by your high anti-gliadin, and it sounds like the lab believes the >20 number more than the flag. The thing to ask your Dr. when he finally calls back is whether he has seen other flagging errors from that lab on positive TTG tests. You will likely be referred...
  12. Strawberry_Jam, you're never going to figure this out if you don't go low-fructose for a few days in a row. Mom's reactions are like wheeleez. If she eats a LOT of fructose she's sick the same day, but if it's a little less (like squash or a Larabar) she might not feel really bad until the next day. I hate those food dilemmas. I try to always have safe...
  13. Find out what the high reading was. Stool anti-gliadin is not a valid diagnostic test for celiac. It may indicate that you're gluten intolerant but you'd have to try the diet to be sure. If you have TTG in your stool it's more likely you're celiac but you could also have Crohn's or microscopic colitis. You should probably ask for a biopsy if you have stool...
  14. I wouldn't worry about testing personally. Chances are very good that if you've taken antibiotics you have some degree of dysbiosis and various interesting things in your stool. What are you going to do with the results? Poison yourself with nystatin or antibiotics? You should be able to improve matters with the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, or a newer version...
  15. Yes. Oats are often cross-contaminated with wheat in the fields and during harvest. The breakdown into amino acids may not be 100% so there can be wheat gluten fragments in the lotion.
  16. So-called chronic fatigue is often hypothyroidism. Doctors miss it because they rely too strongly on TSH and ignore symptoms. Read this article by David Derry. Open Original Shared Link
  17. If you have GI trouble, getting the test shouldn't be too hard. Another option is to pick up a celiac home test kit. Open Original Shared Link They will ship to the US for personal use. Yes, your doctor may "write you off" with a negative result. It's OK because you do not need a doctor's help or permission to be on the diet. Thing is, if you're celiac...
  18. Hmmm.... never thought of that one! He's tired a lot too. People talking about vital wheat gluten are making me laugh. I had a bag of that stuff too. I used to bake bread a lot and a little wheat gluten would make really nice, fluffy rye or 100% whole wheat breads. It was such healthy food...only it was slowly poisoning me.
  19. This is good news. We might have something to help protect against CC. It's a pity it only mitigates damage rather than prevents it, but I'm not at all surprised when I saw the amount of time it takes to break down gliadin in a test tube.
  20. High results are positive, low are negative. Your anti-gliadin is a very clear positive. It's over 17 and the lab has flagged it as "High". I don't know why they didn't use the word "Positive" but "High" is the same. Your TTG makes no sense because it should not have been flagged "Normal" if it's really over 100. If 111 is definitely the number, you...
  21. My music teacher (and good friend) totally "gets" the gluten intolerance and he's awesome about letting me choose restaurants and so forth if we're eating out with friends. Thing is, he's absent-minded almost beyond belief. If he's snacking when I come by his apartment for a lesson, he always politely offers me food but he tends to snack on fresh-baked...
  22. That doesn't mean you are designed to eat or drink large quantities of very acidic foods. Low pH does not naturally occur in many foods, particularly not as phosphoric acid. Even though your stomach is more acidic, the effect of drinking a lot of phosphoric acid on teeth and bones is unclear. Foods and drinks with a pH below 3.0 are sour enough that you...
  23. 4. Lost count! 5. A for GI symptoms, F for psych/insomnia, G for autoimmunity I love seeing children exposed to science this young. I hope they have a wonderful time presenting their study!
  24. Mission brand uses a shared facility, but the corn and wheat lines are separate. They're pretty safe. Open Original Shared Link I sure understand about holding off on a challenge though. It's hard to eat something you think might make you sick.
  25. I wouldn't trust potato anything if you think you're sensitive to nightshades.
