ARCHIVED Avatar Restaurant - Marin County In San Francisco Bay Area
lucia posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I wanted to thank the proprietor of Avatar Restaurant in Sausalito for a great, gluten-free experience! Instead of rolling his eyes when I announced that I was gluten-free, the owner clapped his hands together joyously. "I'll make you the best meal you've ever had!" he exclaimed. Ok, maybe that was a bit of boisterous, Punjabi bragging (there's a reason why... -

The things that helped me were: -acupuncture & Chinese herbs -Special Carbohydrate Diet (part of the GAP diet that domesticactivist refers to above) I was so sick I could barely eat anything. (I had all kinds of tests, and no recommendations besides 'don't eat gluten'. It wasn't enough.) -
ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
lucia replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One of the unfortunate things about this thread is that "celiac disease" is being conflated with "gluten intolerance". What Heidi G. says is true: "theres a difference between celiacs disease and gluten intolerence." That's well-established. The best explanation of this that I've seen comes from Dr. Shelia Crowe here: Open Original Shared Link A second... -

funny kareng! Cathey, it is amazing how even the ethnic food that comes out of my kitchen can taste better than a restaurant meal! Thai Shrimp Curry - yum! I caught a cold and feel pretty miserable, so I'm making congee (rice porridge) tonight. I'm adding turnips and bok choy that I picked up yesterday from our CSA (community supported agriculture). I... -

Another option. Also easy and filling. I love sweet potatoes, and ate a lot of them when I was really ill. When I was really sick, I ate a lot of congee (like you, I had severe food restrictions). It's very easy, and I found it very comforting when I felt ill. It's especially recommended for sick tummies. Basic Congee Ingredients -1/4 cup rice -9 cups broth (veg or chicken) -1-2 inch slice of ginger (optional) -1/2 cup peanuts or shredded chicken... -

To clarify, it's not only my acupuncturist who believes that recovery from gluten intolerance is possible. A close friend who is an acupuncturist was equally unsurprised. As she described it, 'your body is coming back into balance and will now begin to have the healthy responses it should have.' This statement is coming from the perspective of Traditional... -

ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
lucia posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I accidentally ate gluten. The chef screwed up my dish. She was supposed to leave the chunks of gluten cake out of my vegetarian pho. My server came rushing to my table five minutes after she'd served it to stop me from eating anymore. I'd already consumed two large hunks of gluten cake (which looks just like tofu). Just six months ago, crumbs from a... -
ARCHIVED Can I Trust A Gluten-Free Meal From American Airlines?

Turns out that AA no longer serves any meals in coach on domestic flights! So nobody got any food on the way back. (Since I wasn't expecting a gluten-free meal, I planned ahead though.) I ate my gluten-free meal on the way there. It wasn't too tasty, but it didn't cause any reaction. Interestingly, they served the meal to me with plastic-wrapped crackers... -

No, I didn't know that you had to be flying Business Class or above on domestic flights to get a gluten-free meal! Interesting ... my experience has pretty much been that you need to fly B class to get a vegetarian meal too (even though they say they provide it for the riff raff ...). On one leg of our trip we're flying B class (my husband flies a lot too... -

I think saintmaybe totally has the right idea. This gluten-free thing is not going away - because we all know that there's a real need for it. And, trendiness aside, the medical community has identified that gluten is not so good for a large swath of the population, even if they're not dealing with an autoimmune reaction to it like we have. I've also seen... -

I've found that I can't even expect them to have a "vegetarian" meal for me, even though I order in advance, so this question could be for naught ... but have people eaten AA gluten-free meals and been okay? I'm worried. I don't think of AA as particularly dedicated to customer experience. (I personally feel like cattle when I fly them.) -

Please send your opinion to CBS if you think this is wrong. It takes two minutes with the online form. Open Original Shared Link (thanks to jetsgar) I believe a complaint will make a difference.
