  1. LOL! I'd rather ride out the storm! I'm well stocked on food and water. Couldn't get the batteries I needed though so we will be using candles if the power goes out at night.
  2. Getting really scared here. It appears we're right in the path of Irene (I may just have to change my name after this storm!). They are comparing this storm to Katrina, eek! My city just issued mandatory evacuations for everyone in low lying areas. we just moved here and I can't figure out if I'm in a low lying area from the storm surge maps. My area...
  3. I tried the cream of chicken before I became allergic to milk. I thought it was better than Campbell's. I never used cream soup in Tuna Noodle. My Tuna Noodle recipe doesn't call for canned soup. But I did use it to make a chicken and rice casserole and I would make something called sloppy Toms (like sloppy joes but with chicken)--basically just condensed...
  4. I've never seen the cinnamon raisin bread but that okay because I never really ate cinnamon raisin bread when I could eat gluten. The multi-grain bread is pretty good. BC yellow cake mix is very, very dry. It's only tolerable to me if I add some pumpkin puree and make cucakes with lot so of icing, NOT cake. Pamela's white cake mix is the best I've tried...
  5. Just be sure to check the labels. Last I checked Hormel brand pepperoni is gluten-free and Old Wisconsin beef sticks are gluten-free (both say gluten-free on the packages).
  6. It was meant to be! I'm sure you will take good care of Maggie and her coat will be growing back in no time!
  7. I did go to the store today to get veggies and meat. It was sort of comical comparing my cart to all the people buying milk and bread in large quantities. I filled my cart with grapes, oranges, apples, salad, carrots, onions, celery, cucumber, potatoes, bell peppers, squash, zucchini, hummus, olive oil, steaks, kabob meat, ground turkey and ground bison...
  8. I made a big roast last night. Not sure what I'm making for dinner tonight but today and tommorrow I'm going to be doing some baking so we have some baked goods incase huricane Irene knocks out the power here. I'm making cornbread muffins and some type of flat bread for sure. What else should I bake? What would y'all make to prepare for a storm?
  9. Wow, you HAVE been reading here a lot! I thought perhaps I was diabetic because whenever I looked up thick skin on feet I came up with diabetes but my blood gloucous tests were always normal. Anyway, rest assured your feet and the rest of you is going to get so much better in 6 months to a year.
  10. Do you have any other restrictions beside gluten? And is your school a nut free zone? Nuts are good snack unless you have nut-allergic kids in class obviously. Lara Bars are good (also have nuts though) Enjoy Life bars (free of all 8 allergens if you need it) gluten-free pretzels Dried fruit (raisins, apricots, craisins, banana chips, apple chips...
  11. I'm sure they have no idea how much you need them. If I stop calling my mom she will call me about once a month too. I wish she would call more often. I know I can also call her more often but sometimes I don't. Sometimes I'm too busy and just don't think to call her. Sometimes I really have nothing new to talk about and I figure if she wanted to talk...
  12. Raven, I am so sorry for your loss. Forgive me if I am completely wrong in sharing this but I feel I have to give you another perspective on your relationship with your kids. I'm one of those adult children that moved far away from home at the age of 18 for college and never went back. You're about the same age as my mom and I feel like you are...
  13. Welcome! Yes it does get better! You're just overwhelmed right now. Just take things one day at a time and you will probably be back to painting in no time. Stick around and read all you can and post your questions all you want. I'm artist myself but just for a hobby not for a profession. I just painted my first work in a long time today. And then...
  14. Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. I believe most people that go gluten free end up having BETTER nutrition. For one thing they ABSORB their nutrion better once their bodies heal. ANd also I think many become more aware of what exactly goes into their foods and make healthier choices. There may be a few that go the all processed gluten-free junk...
  15. I also think it's odd that you keep asking all these questions for your "friends". It's even stranger to me now that you have shared you are posting these questions without even telling them you are doing so. I thought perhaps they were asking you these questions and asking you to post them to the board for feedback. If you were my friend, I would not...
  16. Why is he "desperate to have you there" ? What is the purpose of this dinner? Is it possible that your DH is getting a raise or a bonus or an award or something and his boss wants to make sure you are there to see it? Or have you just never met your husband's co-workers and they want to get to know you? I can totally understand where you are coming from...
  17. Isn't it funny how different people can expereince completey different things? My expereience has been the opposite! Udi's untoasted falls apart for me at the slightest bit of moisture in a sandwich and texture-wise it is NOT good untoasted--it's sort of rough, dry and scratchy feeling in my mouth. I need lots of water to choke down a PB and J on untoasted...
  18. How were the lemon bars? I've been meaning to look for a recipe for those. it's something my grandmother always made around Chistmas when she was still alive and I've been missing them. I'll have to give that recipe a try.
  19. Last night we had steak pizzaiola, Tinkyada pasta and green beans. Tonight I'm make Thai style chicken spring rolls and coconut rice.
  20. Yesterday I made french toast with Rudi's gluten-free bread. It was SO yummy! Today I'm having a bowl of Honey Nut Chex cereal with coconut milk and a granny smith apple.
  21. This is pretty much my position too. 3-5 years even would not be long enough for me to trust something like this. How will they know if it reduces our risk of cancer the same way that 5 years gluten free does? Will they study the occurance of other autoimmune diseases with this vaccine versus with the gluten-free diet? And what will be the long term ...
  22. That sounds just like my reaction to soy. It's possible you have some type of intolerance or even an allergy.
  23. I use this recipe: Open Original Shared Link Only with chicken instead of turkey. I also usually don't have to go through the whole process of cooking a whole chicken and making broth. I make whole chickens at least twice a month and make broth from the bones, then freeze the broth (I don't add any boulion like her recipe says to--my broth is good...
  24. I think this may be where you are goign wrong in your baking experiments--Gluten free batters do NOT look like normal batters. They can look completely different while raw and yet taste good once cooked. You are going to need to relearn everything you know about the texture and look of a batter or dough before it's baked. Maybe you will have better results...
  25. I usually make chicken and rice soup or egg drop soup. If I don't even feel good enough to make those I eat plain rice, bananas, rice cakes with peanut butter and Pamela's ginger snaps and ginger Ale if my stomach is upset at all.
