ARCHIVED Celiac & Fertility
GlutenFreeManna replied to JillianLindsay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
3 months is a very short time. I would not start to worry until it's been a year or more. Are you using the methods in the book "Taking Charge of your fertility" to chart your cycle? You can learn a lot from that book if you have not read it yet. -
ARCHIVED Biscuit Recipe
GlutenFreeManna replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay I'll either order some Amaranth then or use more brown rice flour. No Whole Foods here It may be a few weeks before I get to making these, but I'm bookmarking this post and will let you know when I try them. Thanks again! -
ARCHIVED Biscuit Recipe
GlutenFreeManna replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank You! I lived in NC for almost 10 years prior to being gluten-free so those type of biscuits are just what I've been wanting. I think I tried two recipes and the gluten-free bisquick mix and then gave up. So many recipes have eggs in them. I NEVER put eggs in my biscuits before. The taste of the egg just throws it completely off for me. I like... -
ARCHIVED New! Biopsy For The Folks On gluten-free Diet
GlutenFreeManna replied to lcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That sounds promising but I'm confused about the part I bolded above. Why did they ask those patients to go back to eating gluten for the test? -
ARCHIVED Child Back In Hospital
GlutenFreeManna replied to Mommy2GlutenFreeChild's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No, you are not crazy. I've read and experienced similar things in hospitals myself. Write down ALL of your questions for the PED and ask them in as calm of a voice as you can. It's hard not to get emotional over these things and your emotions can make you forget the questions you were going to ask or distract the dr from looking for the answer. So write... -
ARCHIVED Could Not Believe What I Was Hearing!
GlutenFreeManna replied to Lexi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think a number of restaurants recently have jumped on the gluten-free bandwagon as if it is only a fad diet without researching it properly. Then they start getting complaints of people getting sick from eating the "gluten free" food and have to backtrack, rewrite their menu, add a bunch of qualifiers or like California Pizza Kitchen did recently--completley... -
ARCHIVED Help Me With Toast!
GlutenFreeManna replied to BeFree's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've baked plenty of gluten-free bread without a bread machine and I also don't have a stand mixer--just a little hand mixer. So it's possible even without paying big bucks for a new kitchen gadget. Would you mind shaing your gluten-free biscuit recipe in a new post in the recipe section (so we don't hijack this bread thread)? I have yet to find a really... -
ARCHIVED What Helps You Stay Positive?
GlutenFreeManna replied to ewalker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hilarious and true when you have tiny kitchen. I had one like that for two years and about killed my hubby several times. We could not open the oven, dishwasher or fridge at the same time. All the doors hit each other so it was like doing gymnastics if you needed to get a drink of water from the fridge while unloading the dishwasher. If we halfway closed... -
ARCHIVED What Helps You Stay Positive?
GlutenFreeManna replied to ewalker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would not let just one person's attitude keep you from being able to enjoy Thanksgiving with your family. Most thanksgiving dishes are quite easy to make gluten-free. Last year, I made my entire Thanksgiving meal the day before thanksgiving then made myself a plate and took it to thanksgiving the next day. All I had to do was heat it up in a microwave... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity?
GlutenFreeManna replied to hojo70's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree. Even though you were negative 6 yrs ago you could show up positive now. I would get new tests and make sure they do a full panel before going gluten-free. All the tests listed here: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED What Helps You Stay Positive?
GlutenFreeManna replied to ewalker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here's a pizza crust thread to help you find the perfect crust: When you find a really good recipe, don't tell your husband it's gluten-free right away, just give it to him and see what he thinks. Then when he says it's good take piece yourself and tell him it's gluten-free. He might be hung up on the idea of gluten-free not tasting good and so he... -
ARCHIVED No More Wine For Me.
GlutenFreeManna replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you can buy Kinickkinick "engish muffins" they make decent homemade egg mcmuffins. I put english muffins in quotes because, although they call them english muffins they are closer in texture to a biscuit, not really an English but not a biscuit either, yet they make a decent breakfast sandwhich. I also like Udi's bagels for making breakfast sammies.... -
some gluten intolerant/celiac individuals do have sporadic/inconsistent symptoms when on a full gluten diet. I don't know if there's research that explains this but I have read the analogy of it being like an army who's reserves are taxed--your body is not able to fully fight the onslaught of all that gluten you are consuming, so the symptoms are less obvious...

ARCHIVED Help Me With Toast!
GlutenFreeManna replied to BeFree's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Fortunately for you, most gluten-free bread tastes better toasted. Rudi's bread is my favorite, followed by Udi's. You can get even better gluten-free breads by making your own. Search this board for some bread recipe threads. There have been some good ones in just the past few months. -
ARCHIVED This Is Getting Ridiculous!
GlutenFreeManna replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like you know your body and your symptoms are clear when you get into some corn. I admit it sounded pretty off the wall that the water bottle would affect you, but I've read more extreme examples of how people got glutened. FWIW, I completely believe you. Listen to your body. I'm glad you're not moving into a cave. It's hard to get an internet... -
ARCHIVED It's Been A Horrible Day- Can Anyone Help?
GlutenFreeManna replied to suziq0805's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Given that you've been eating gluten for 3 months and feeling poorly AND the fact that your insurance will soon run out I would either: A. Call the dr back and tell him about your insurance ending and ask if he can refer you to another dr that can do it right away. OR B. Just go back to gluten free and feel better and forego the biopsy. ... -

ARCHIVED Budgeting Tips For Frugal Celiacs
GlutenFreeManna replied to Claire's topic in Publications & Publicity
Another tip--when cutting veggies (carrots, onions, celery, etc) I save the end pieces/stems in a large ziploc bag in the freezer. When the bag gets full I fill a crock pot with water and make broth from the pieces. Eventually I hope to have a compost pile so even the leftover pulp that gets strained out wouldgo toward making compost for my veggie garden... -

Thanks, I was letting them cool but maybe not enough or maybe they are just too old. I will have to get some new ones this year and try with those. -
ARCHIVED Budgeting Tips For Frugal Celiacs
GlutenFreeManna replied to Claire's topic in Publications & Publicity
Usually at the grocery store meat counter area. I just ask the meat manager, "If I were to buy X amount could you give me a better discount?" Just make sure you are buying a large enough amount that it's worth it for them to mark it down. I'm usually buying 20-30 pounds worth of meat at a time. They suggest the % of mark down usually. It does help if you... -
ARCHIVED Budgeting Tips For Frugal Celiacs
GlutenFreeManna replied to Claire's topic in Publications & Publicity
I have a question about this. I got some of those plastic screw on lids so I could freeze things in my mason jars. I tried it with some broth and the jars cracked in the freezer. Do you leave the lids off the jars when you first freeze things? or do you just not freeze liquids in glass jars? I had the same problem using the jars in my fridge (maybe my... -
ARCHIVED Feel So Belittled
GlutenFreeManna replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry they're giving you such a hard time. Just think of it this way--they most likely don't want to admit that YOU have problems with gluten because then they have to admit THEY may have a problem with gluten too. -
Oh, well then that website may not help--I think it's mainly the US and Canada. Sorry. I know we have several people from Australia here so hopefully they will be able to help. Probably a good idea to make your own post however since the OP's post is just about Chinese restaurants in general. If you put Adelaide, Australia in the title of a new post you...
