  1. Sweating makes me itch - not full-out hives, but uncomfortable. I find more things irritate my skin and make me itchy premenstrually - don't know what's up with that. You could try organic wines, which shouldn't have sulfates. Good luck.
  2. You are in the right place for that! It does get easier, I promise, and so worth it as you start to feel better.
  3. I had painless (but annoying!) bloating for about 2 months, and it got worse before it got better. I looked 6 months pregnant, which my husband thought was cute but I sure didn't!
  4. I like a scoop of peanut butter in the hollow of a canned pear half; you can also spread it on other fruits such as apples or sliced bananas. Or celery. And then there's Reese's peanutbutter cups!
  5. Bakery on Main granola bars. gluten-free crackers with cheese. Fruit, fresh or something like Dole fruit cups. Raisins. Sandwich on gluten-free bread. Carrot or celery sticks. Glutino pretzels. Rice cakes. Yogurt.
  6. New Grist beer is another gluten free one. No "regular" beers are safe; they need to be labelled "gluten free" and made from sorghum, or sorghum and rice. Learned that the hard way after a fellow celiac told me Heineken was safe. It isn't.
  7. I am so sorry for your loss, Raven. Pets are such a comfort and joy; I'm glad you were led to your new friend so soon. Wishing you healing; you are such a source of help and comfort to so many here.
  8. Yes, but only from gluten; I tolerate dairy no problem.
  9. I am loving "The Cake Mix Doctor Bakes Gluten Free". All the recipes start with a Betty Crocker gluten-free mix, and add-ins give lots of variety. Easy, and good. I miss Cheerios, too!
  10. If you take communion with gluten weekly on that theory, you would simply never recover. Lots of us are ill for a week or more after consuming gluten. Christ had a particular mission that ended with an episode of extreme suffering. I can't think God's plan for most of us is to be too ill to work or care for our families for the rest of our lives.
  11. I am quite sure that eating gluten does increase her risk of developing cancers and other celiac-related conditions if she has celiac disease. I imagine it is very hard to keep her from eating gluten in daycare since she isn't old enough to know what she can and can't have, but I would keep working toward a solution to keep her completely gluten free. Good...
  12. Thank you!
  13. Ice cream is great if you can have dairy.
  14. Thanks; what is the proportion of butter to flour?
  15. I eat the Bob's Red Mill gluten free steel cut oats with no problem. I think buckwheat groats might work, too.
  16. I usually keep it out on the counter for a few days (depending on the humidity), then freeze what is left. I agree with mushroom that freezing tends to dry it out - once I freeze it, I mostly only use it toasted, french toasted or for grilled cheese.
  17. Gluten free granola bars (Bakery on Main makes really good ones) Lara bars gluten free crackers w/ cheese or PB nuts M&Ms gluten free cookies yogurt snack pack puddings or jello celery and carrot stix fruit - fresh or canned
  18. I made the buckwheat pancakes this morning, and they were REALLY GOOD! I added a little cinnamon and vanilla. Thanks for the recipe!
  19. Thanks! Next time I will microwave them.
  20. I found them a little dry, maybe toasting them would help. Or maybe I just got a stale package. I actually like the Canyon Bakehouse ones better, but both are quite good.
  21. I do the cooking for my family, and I don't cook anything glutenous. If I can't eat it, I'm not making it, and if they want something else, they need to make it themselves, in their own separate pan, pot, toaster, whatever. And clean up after themselves, too. Mostly they don't want to be bothered, so they eat what I make.
  22. I am so sorry you have suffered so much. It's OK to cry. It's wonderful that you have lost 100 lbs.! You will get better; stick with it. Have you seen a dietician? And/or a therapist for help with your emotional pain? You are young and have your whole life ahead of you, and you are on a good road now. I am glad you found us; people here can offer help and...
  23. It is sad and hard at first. I remember dreaming of Girl Scout Cookies and waking up in tears. But eventually you'll find lots of stuff you like, and you won't miss it so much. You can make Betty Crocker gluten free cupcakes from a mix. Hope you are feeling better!
  24. Cashew nuts can do that also if you eat a lot of them.
  25. My grandmother tested positive for celiac, and 4 of her 5 living children (my mother among them). I believe the remaining aunt has it as well, but refuses to admit it. Some of my cousins have chosen gluten-free without testing, as have I. I know what my symptoms mean, so why bother? I also believe my sister and adult children have it, but they don't want...
