    ARCHIVED Stress

Stress definitely has an effect on your system! I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 26 years. And, though I take my insulin, eat right, exercise, etc., my sugar levels can go pretty high when I'm stressed about something. I think I have everything under control emotionally and physically, but sometimes I just have to give in to the fact that I can't be in...
  2. I finally broke down and bought some shampoo, some facial cleanser and hand soap. I'm desparate! And frustrated! I bought some Seemark (sp) gluten free rice thins-cheddar at the health food store yesterday. After eating the 15 crackers per serving, I looked at the ingredients. There is WHEY in them! Didn't I read somewhere that whey is some sort of...
  3. Dear Ravenwoodglass...I just wanted to say how much I (and all of us) appreciate the time and effort you put into posting and replying to posts on this site. You seem very grounded and patient. So, thank you!
  4. I switched from brown rice to white rice...thinking that brown is constipating. Now, I'm wondering if white rice is a good alternative??? Anyone???
  5. Do you have muscle wasting along with neuropathy??????
  6. I'm wondering of my hair spray is a problem. And, I use scrubbin bubbles to clean in bathroom. Just ajax or comet in kitchen. Love Caldrea products (room freshioner, lotion, soap). But...........
  7. When you say "hotness" do you have sweats too? Or, does your skin feel hot (face, arms, chest..)?
  8. Yesterday I created a poll on this site about this cleaning, cosmetic, and hair care favorites. I don't know where it is tho! Wrote to administrator and haven't heard back.

    ARCHIVED Poll

I began a poll a few days ago. The poll was asking to vote for your favorite cleaning products, hair products, cosmetics. I don't see on the home page where I can go to view the poll or even vote. Like other newbies, I'm experiencing such frustration with needing to buy things but not having 2 hours to stand in the aisle at the store reading ingredients...
  10. I'm noticing that other issues are showing their ugly little heads. I'm looking at the blood type diet, too. I've noticed that the foods my type should stay away from, have caused problems...more allergy-type problems though...like my tongue burning. After eating at Cafe Gratitude (a gluten-free restaurant in San Francisco (fantastic btw!) other familiar...
  11. What a GREAT sense of humor you have! I'm on my lovely patio right now (8:30 a.m. in Sacramento 62* (that's my substitute "degree" sign)) having my allowed 1 cup a day. I'm feeling very grateful right now.....
  12. I'm single and have been single for 15 years or so. I date periodically and enjoy the company of others (so I'm not unsocial). When I read so much about significant others, family and friends, being condisending (sp) or not believing we have this disease, it just IRKS me! If you all have asked them to take a gander at this website and commit to spending...
  13. Back to bed this morning trying to figure out what I ate out of the ordinary yesterday. It was the brownies (really out of the ordinary for me....since I'm diabetic and don't typically have desserts). I'm looking at the ingredients and there are a few I'm concerned about because I've seen them before: dextrose, tapioca starch, potato starch and xanthum...
  14. From what I understand, the surgery I had in December triggered my celiac. But, I've probably had it for several years before that. I guess you could call mine "silent" celiac...I don't have the typical extreme symptoms...make sit a little more difficult i think because I'm never sure if it's gluten or other allergies (which are beginning to show up since...
  15. I feel the same way! Seems the more I don't eat gluten, the more "allergies" I get! For instance, I just had a few canned oysters from Trader Joe's. The ingredients are just oysters and olive oil. But, now I'm feeling a burning in my stomach that I haven't felt all day. I'm off coffee as of this morning...my last cup a couple of hours ago with no...
  16. Too funny!
  17. Can you please share with me the SYMPTOMS of her idiopathic peripheral neuropathy? ? I've posted a couple of times about the muscle wasting in my left hand but don't seem to be understood.
  18. Seems like the harder I try to get off gluten, the more "allergies" appear. There are things I've been eating all along that are considered gluten free, but now seem to cause me problems: Caffein Coconut Oil Corn on the cob Quinua And these are only the obvious ones. I have only enough coffee grounds for about 2 more cups...I'm going to savor...
  19. yes and post nasal drip...ick!
  20. There's another way of looking at this. Something I've been learning recently. How do I explain this?? Maybe my fear of people not understanding and accepting me with or without celiac disease, or any other health issue, is only because I haven't been understanding and accepting of others' issues in the past?? I'm finding I'm becoming more compassionate...
  21. She sounds very insecure! Sorry you have to deal with that...good thing is, he's not your husband...if you know what I mean.
  22. Conniebky, I know EXACTLY how you feel! And, I appreciate the format in which you shared your frustration. To the point! No beating around the bush! Not writing, rewriting, editing and reediting til 3 hours pass and that frustrating energy is still swarming around because it hasn't been "released." Can you use Tom's toothpaste?

  24. No PT yet, but I was just thinking of that the other day. Will make a note to get a referral from PCP tomorrow. Thanks!
  25. Hi Wendi! I'm new to this life-style, too. Diagnosed mid-May and I can see it's going to be a bumpy ride. Hopefully not a long and bumpy ride, though, as I'm scurrying to find anything I can on this disease and gluten-free eating. I thought it was going to be easy just cutting out food with gluten...just eating "clean" as they say. But, for me, there...
