  1. i was surprised to have to whip out the: "i'm sorry if my *disease* is an inconvenience to *you*" line this weekend! most of the time my family is really awesome about keeping me safe, but for some reason they were all about trying to put bread on my gluten-free grill on the upside, though, i had a very informed conversation with one of our young...
  2. i used to drag everything, but now it's pretty much Lifestyles of the Unprepared: ziplock bags, paper plates, tinfoil. if i know i have something i'm planning to cook, i'll bring the appropriate stuff (hard to fake a colander - i have done it, but it's hard lolz) maybe a little stainless steel pot or frying pan. if i go to my friends or relatives house...
  3. if there is flour in the air and you breathe it in, it goes into your mouth. at some point, you will swallow some (ingestion) and that's how you will get cc'd by flying flour. i use my (shared) oven for baking gluten-free dishes and non gluten-free dished at the same time. it is also convection. like laura said, if you're baking something that needs...
  4. wow! this is great news it seems like i always have a layover there this is extreme, but once we got hung out in el paso and the only thing i had was a turkey samwich with mayo <yikes) and it was hot. it was in a ziplock bag, so i bought a big cup of ice and jammed it in there. found a bag of potato chips and survived the 10 hour delay (ate...
  5. not everyone has celiac that has dental issues. or of the THREE HUNDRED SYMPTOMS we get alot of that on here. it must be gluten. well, maybe it's not. maybe some people just don't brush their teeth or practice proper hygeine. my tooth enamal is just fine, so, if you're going by that, i just blew your theory. my dentist would not be that irresponsible...
  6. ahhh, the hormones........... yeah, i have to remind myself every month (when i start feeling tired & my insides get wonky) that i should check my calendar before i think i'm glutened. i am at the menopause age, pretty much - i have no idea what sort of mutant baby eggs i have left in my ovaries and i'm ready to be done with it! lolz ((((((...
  7. tell her not to go! don't they just kill you, anyway? she probably won't live long enough to worry about her diet. why would you do that?
  8. also, if you use hand sanitizer, it's made with alcohol. which is very drying. i use soap & water (love my face olive oil soap) because sanitizer only makes whatever is on your hands germ-free. so, if (this is what i did lolz) you're making sandwiches/handling food, say, at a bbq, and you use hand sanitizer then eat your burger with your hands.......
  9. yes, neuro problems seem to be the last to leave the party. it's also one of my first symptoms of being glutened: things get louder, i lose co-ordination, etc.. have you changed something in the past year that could have you getting glutened ? new job, new sig other, new roommate, etc? have you been re-tested to see what your antibodies are doing?
  10. i make my own salve. it's petroleum jelly, coconut oil & tea tree.
  11. aw, it's only until you die. of old age, hopefully, and not a complication from untreated celiac. once you start seeing symptoms start clearing up, you will be more encouraged. it takes a minute to wrap your head around it, trust me, i know. i was in denial in the beginning, until i was so sick i couldn't function. honestly, once you start feeding your...
  12. amen! (oh, gosh, though, what about those ducks?????? )
  13. happy b-day, ski-lisa!!! (sorry for the regifted smilies lolz )
  14. wow - really scary out there, huh. i hope everybody complies with evac orders, although i don't know how i would act under the circumstances! it would be hard to leave my home on a moment's notice your nephew looks like an 'angel baby'! congrats!! (and that is one funky chair lolz - have you tried it out?) tonight's dinner will be a crap shoot...
  15. i'm glad you like it three of them are brothers james, the hunky front man - swoon - if i was 20 yrs younger, sam & abe. i've got a photo with me & james my favorite song they do is called 'the rain', but the vocals in 'roll on jordan' are fabulous. genetic harmony. plus, they're super sweet guys. if you notice, seth can't play his bass with...
  16. sons of bill - wrote a song called 'santa ana winds' - it's pretty great (and they are pretty nice fellers, too) check 'em tonight is: skip last night i made swedish meatballs w/noodles <would have been good with zoodles, tho) and carrots. i accidently got whole wheat pasta instead of regular for the hubs (most nights i just make all gluten...
  17. if your gut is damaged, you might not be able to digest raw fruits/veggies/salads. i know i have just added a bunch of stuff back in and i have been on the gluten-free diet for nearly 4 years. also, when you start eating gluten free again, take probiotics & digestive enzymes <will help with regularity & digestion) keep a food journal to see...

  20. i am sensitive to soy - completely different reaction than gluten. i still eat it (but avoid it as much as possible) because it's NOT the gluten gift that keeps on giving (for 2 weeks) soy is a short reaction and it's gone. if i was getting a gluten reaction from soy, i would avoid it like the plague. soy is BEANS grown in a POD <outside covering. ...
  21. greek yogurt was my 'go-to' starvation fix. i will still drink kefir if i think i'm going to be out and don't want to be starving to death. it's been nearly 4 years, but i still find myself insanely hungry at times. i am still pretty thin but working on gaining more weight - my husband and i call my appetite "fatty" lolz "fatty" eats about every 2 hours...
  22. sorry you are having a rough time i usually just come here. but, you know, if you need to see someone, i am a huge fan of counseling. a psychologist would be good, if you aren't thinking you need meds. or, is there a support group near you?
  23. i use culturelle because it is soy free. you have to use it for about 2 weeks before everything 'settles down' - when i first started taking it, my guts sounded like a war zone, lolz at first, i thought i was reacting to it, then i read the box <wah waaaaaaaaah...
  24. i agree with karen - our sensitive digestive tracts are pretty fickle, sometimes! that's why keeping a food journal is helpful. i have to limit how much soy i have or else it gives me a problem. not gluten, just indigestion. i recently switched from drinking apple juice all day to drinking plain ice water. a little tweak here and there and i can see...
  25. i have a VAT of it in the freezer, addy, help y'self (sea salt & caramel, plus i have gluten-free SUGAR CONES om nom nommmm!) last night was crab cakes, roasted brussels sprouts, and baby potatoes <hells yeah, i'm using those pricey suckers up, lolz not cooking tonight, not cooking tomorrow night (going to one of our satellite kids grad...
