  4. get your own toaster, too. and replace any wooden spoons, plastic utensils, etc - anything that is soft enough to be scratched because gluten will hang out in the cracks. stainless steel and glass seems to work fine tinfoil is your friend. ie: i still use my old pizza pans, i just cover them in foil. disclaimer: this works for me. it may not work...

  6. stuffed french toast! and this is the second time this week i made it and it turned out not mushy and gushy. i used rudi's original (from the freezer into the toaster oven on 300 degrees for 10 min to thaw it and dry it out a little. then dunk it into the egg mixture just for a second (my first few attempts i left the bread soaking too long - like i used...
  7. yes! me too - i noticed the other day. it's like "what's that smell" because it's been a very long time that i have been able to smell anything unless it's absolutely overwhelmingly smelly haha - this is at month 18 being gluten-free! so, i guess my doc was right (and i have heard it said many times on here) it took a long time to do the damage, it will...
  8. you are in good company here you are sooo completely normal when faced with the whole gluten-free lifestyle change! right down to the supermarket trip - did exactly the same thing, as have many on this board. keep in mind that you might be having withdrawal symptoms - feels like the flu, w/irritability, fatigue, i even had night sweats! - pay attention...

  11. i am american. i was born in new jersey but moved to east tennessee. i am comfortable either place, but i love my new home and i will live here until the good Lord takes me home. my paternal grandmother was full-blooded hungarian. my paternal grandfather was half mohegan <(sp) indian and half english. my maternal grandfather was english and irish...
  12. well, tonight was supposed to be: white turkey chili (cooked turkey in the freezer, also i make (sort, soak & cook) batches of white beans from dried beans and freeze them. something in the canned beans doesn't like me.) but, the whole house (except me - haha) has a stomach bug and doesn't want anything to eat.... but, hey: i made homemade raviolis...
  13. hello puddleduck & welcome YOU can answer some curious questions for me? i often wonder (if we are born with this disease) if being diagnosed at an early age is more difficult or easier? is the diet second nature for you or were your parents the 'gluten police' lolz i ask this because my son was diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes at age...
  14. suz - the fact that you are here speaks volumes. and maybe staying gluten free will clear up your liver problem - many of us have had a ton of other 'unrelated' symptoms go away by just eating the right stuff. f**k that dinner roll.....!
  15. i had the shaky hands as well. gone. one more thing i can check off the list of things i thought were something else (that i was going to die of.) i am alot less spastic, also, as in i can catch that pencil rolling off the table or that jar of stuff falling out of the fridger.
  16. oh, and bea - today i am making a giant pot of turkey soup with lots of veggies. and cayenne!
  17. thanx so much for the advice update: (and this is kind of an experiment for me) i have been resting much, drinking alot of water/juice, making sure i eat 3 times a day even if it is not a full meal, taking very long hot showers, etc. my finances (especially january is the worst time for us every year) are not so great, so i haven't been able to seek...
  18. i had a head cold that has migrated to my chest. now, my past normal would have been to run to the doctor at this point. i have a low grade fever and everything hurts, so i have been in the bed (in the afternoon/evening it seems to get worse) on and off for 2 days. feeling tired but not *constantly* - morning/early afternoon i feel pretty good. question...
  19. i was explaining the going gluten-free to a friend i hadn't been in touch with in awhile: it was the hardest thing i ever did. it was the easiest thing i ever did. it's a process, but it's totally worth it. for me, soooo many other things cleared up: vertigo, asthma, headache <i didn't even realize i had it allll the time until it went away...

  21. HAHAHA too funny - we cook for 13 minutes exactly, too, even though the package says 15-16 min - that stuff is The Kind pasta - i cook gluten-free for the whole family and they complained loudly over other pasta substitutions!! now my husband says he likes it better than regular wheat pasta. also: the tinkyada fettucini is a good sub for egg noodles ...
  22. good luck - my niece is 9 - she could be my little 'health clone' - terrible rashes, constant D, anxiety - the pickiest eater (which i was ever since i can remember because food made me sick!) so, last thanxgiving they came to visit and i had a loooooong chat with my sil and she agreed to have my niece tested when they got back home. never happened. the...
  23. haha - i took pictures of my rash, too - it would disappear by the time i could get an appointment w/dermatologist! i showed it to my GI doc and she said "yup" but never could get it biopsied. AND no matter how many times i erased them off my camera, there they were..... at the most embarrassing times, naturally.....
  24. my daughter (goes to school at ETSU) works at the ruby tuesday up there. she will feed you safely! she recently served a group that had celiac people and they were thrilled that she knew how to keep their food 'good to eat' - she was excited to call and tell me about it
