notme replied to JaniceS's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
lol! go rich! you and i are of the same mind - i will explain all day long to people who actually are interested. but to have to answer the same ignorant questions over and over makes me kind of get in their face a little: NOOOOOO. (direct stare) I'M. NOT. EATING. THAT. to the lesser importants: eeeew!! gross!!! get that stuff away from me!! i... -

ARCHIVED My Friend Is Coeliac, What If She Decides To Eat A Piece Of Cake?
notme replied to kellynolan82's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
define strict. it's not just cake, bread & croutons that contain the poisonous gluten. and, yes, a crumb *will* make alot of us sick. or, in my case (early on) absentmindedly licking my fingers that had regular soy sauce on them <made from wheat! while i was fixing lunch for the kids. i explain it this way: you can't see a germ but it will make... -
ARCHIVED My First Trip To The Mil's Since Diagnosis
notme replied to SnoBaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
that is a good point, molly in my case, these people have watched me be sick for twenty plus years. did they watch this poor girl suffer for 16 years? when i was finally diagnosed i called my sister and told her and she cried tears of relief. she then researched the krap out of the subject. that's kind of what i expected, but, oh well. my skin is... -
ARCHIVED My First Trip To The Mil's Since Diagnosis
notme replied to SnoBaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
LOL! for me, for sure - now that i've shot my mouth off on here (gunpowder in my honey-nut chex) let me say this: i do the tongue-biting thing out of respect for my husband. and he sticks up for me and knows when i have gotten to my wits end with his parents. (this is the same woman who cried miserably when i told her i was pregnant! (kid is 20 now... -

screw that. i wouldn't go back. you are only ONE person. what you eat is your business and if it's that big of a deal to FIND ROOM IN THE FRIDGE - seriously????? i have yet to make my in-laws even *understand* what this diet involves. last time they came to visit they wanted to take everyone out to eat. ok, so they watch me order my food (burger, no... -

hi and welcome you are in the right place. go ahead and list specific questions and the people on here can help you! been there and done that (learned everything on my own with the help of these awesome folks) one nurse at my gi's office actually told me to go online ("just google it") i think she was clueless. the best advice has come from here ...
-
hello and welcome if your doctors are anything like mine, they don't know half as much as the people on this board do. my gp knew what celiac is but his nurse practitioner is clueless. my gi is good, but when i mentioned skipping dairy and soy for awhile, she told me i didn't need to go nuts with the diet. well. i *do* have to go nuts with it if i want...

ARCHIVED Hard Alcohol
notme replied to ERR's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
taking tylenol makes me have all kinds of urinary tract pain. i was skipping ibuprofen for awhile trying to avoid iodine - anything to help make skin clear up. does your bourbon give you a headache? i think this website recommends maker's mark? i use it in recipes as i am not a bourbon drinker. -
ARCHIVED I Feel So Much Better....but Why Can't I Do It?
notme replied to staci002's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
my blood test was negative, too. i had already been gluten free for awhile so it didn't surprise my doc. i got scoped and the dr said my duodenal folds were flattened - that was good enough for me. i had one more test to make sure i didn't have crohns or intestinal blockage, etc. as far as i'm concerned the diet is proof positive. the difference in how... -

notme replied to Katrala's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

their menu looks great - even has some bread (gluten-free) and pasta! thing is: haven't been able to try it. it says to call ahead - as i understand the owner has to be there to make it. the first time i called the owner wasn't there, so ok. now they are saying they are out of the flour, so to check back. i said, "like tomorrow?" and they told me no...

if i get a cold or my pollen allergy acts up, my body makes extra mucous. i get post-nasal drip and it ends up in my stomach. its gotta come out somewhere. i know how you feel - it's like NOW what????? you wanna have heart failure? eat beets

hmmm. sugar spike. i never considered that at all! last night we had beet greens fresh from the garden for dinner. and i do like my fruit (and everything is coming into season so i have been trying to take advantage of that) strawberries were on sale so my son brought over about 4 qts and we pigged out on them the other night. i am not a 'sweet eater...

my dr checked all my levels last september (had to reschedule my check-up in may and the next appointment they had is for september) and they were all good, even my b-12 was good and iron was slightly elevated. i gave myself a little pat on the back for being strict with my diet (never thought i would be successful at it!) i took it as a good sign that...

ARCHIVED Blood Pressure Meds
notme replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
i was worried with it being 'time released' being as i only take it once daily. some meds, if you alter them, release all at once and that would be not a good thing. but these were ok. and, yes, if you are going to do this please check and make sure funny, the next thing i am going to check/call about the probiotics (in a capsule) i use - greek yogurt...
