  1. if you have an earth fare, they sell the udi's bread. i have a little specialty store that carries it as well. recently i have tried (o my gosh trying to get pasta that is 'right'!!) tinkyada pasta - another brand that is AWESOME!!! 'against the grain' makes baguette bread that is pretty good, i use that to make any kind of sandwich that needs a roll...
  2. me too! it helped so much in the winter weather b/c i didn't have to wash my hands every two seconds - they're the kind they use in restaurants (disposable) and latex-free
  3. eeew. haha - so far i haven't found any english muffins that don't turn to goo. trying to find a good recipe!!
  4. wow, my son-in-law is being deployed today, too also a marine - they are sending him to afghanistan. my daughter and the kids are out at lejeunne as i am writing this. i will definitely keep yours in my prayers as well! and your daughter! poor kid, and expecting too. it's going to be hard enough to watch my kid pine for a year
  5. funny this topic is back up today (to me, anyway ) i have been 8 months gluten-free and in the beginning, i was still having gut issues. after six months, not so much. have been having more good days than bad. i am 48 and expecting menopause and since going gluten-free my periods have gotten closer together. i am not on any kind of birth control or...
  6. thank you, thank you, thank you!! ha - i guess i give up on the big grill and i'll be happy to scrub the bullet and the tabletop. both are non-porous and i can reseason the grates. husband says they sell lump charcoal at lowe's "you are really Princess Difficult, aren't you?" yup, that's me. (i love That Guy - shhh don't tell him)
  7. i have a "jusssssst kill me...." face for just such an occasion. the *best* suggestions always come from the same people who have been harrassing me for years: you're too skinny. there must be something wrong with you we're so worried (translated: you must have an eating disorder) lol or here's one: can you eat (whatever kind of food) ? me...
  8. DAHHHHHH!!!!!! (fmr! backwards! on my head! in the mud!!!!!!) that is unacceptable seriously, i would have NEVER thought of that. EVER. in a million years. are there any that do not contain wheat that you know of or recommend? i wonder if a charcoal briquette gets to be 600 degrees........? do they list ingredients i bet they don't
  9. ok, probably my biggest gripe is: when people have that shocked in disbelief reaction to "just a crumb" will make you sick???????? i can see them thinking: surely not! generally, that is someone who doesn't know me very well so it is easily walked away from. my dear, sweet, incredibly awesome friends, however are driving me bats. they get me boulder...
  10. ok, the husband has the giant bbq grill - you know the one with the smoker box on the side - and we loooove to smoke meat, chicken, fish etc. also we use the same grill to cook burgers and toast buns, etc. the grates are cast iron, so i can scrub and reseason them in the oven, no problem. my question is: is there gluten inside the GRILL ITSELF? can it...
  11. we couldn't afford to do this all at once. i am still replacing things as we use them. we didn't replace the breadmaker b/c there are no scratches in the teflon and i am/was completely anal about cleaning it. plus, we didn't use it that much before i went gluten-free. i haven't had a problem yet but i am on the lookout and if i do, then i will get a new...
  12. i am so sorry. i hope things get better for you soon.
  13. yup. ibs, colitis, ibs here's your pills. try to pay attention to what is making you sick (everything) and then just don't eat that skin problems, anemic, joint pain, no energy, strength or balance. constant fatigue. migraines, allergies, miscarriage, hospitalization (we think you have hepatitis but your blood tests came back negative...) after 25 years...
  14. oh. my. gosh! i thought i was the only one who had these! i keep dreaming i'm packing for a road trip and people contaminate my meals. once i dreamt i forgot all my clothes because i was so worried about what i was going to eat.
  15. wow. i'm marrying him. does that work, leaving the pans in the self-cleaning oven when you clean it? because (i, too, have a cast iron man) this will make today a very nice day. also, he will clean the oven he will be so happy! i wasn't sure if that would work. but he re-season(s)/(ed) the pans every time we used them.
  16. LOLOL LOLOLOLOL that made me choke on my tea! my *good* BIL is an electrician. the rest are not attorneys!!! thanx for a great laugh
  17. sorry my bad alot of dairy still bothers me but it has to do with the lactose - stuff without milk sugars (or less) i can eat. have you tried lactaid milk? i still have to pay attention and some cheese makes me sick/bloated/etc for no apparent reason.
  18. things that saved me in the beginning: honey-nut chex gluten/dairy free chocolate nuts (almonds and cashews) UDI"S BREAD - i can't tell you how huge that was as far as my attitude - i loves me a turkey sammich!! not on cardboard PLEASE!! REDBRIDGE (yeah, i should have put that one first LOL) whole foods (fresh, uncut-up, unprocessed...
  19. omgosh, spring cleaning is taking on a whole new meaning yes, i DO feel like moving that stove and cleaning behind it!! yes, i think i WILL rearrange my spices (and throw out a bunch of crap i have been tripping over for years) all these things i have been putting off for a very long time. we bought this old house (victorian built 1896) and i have been...
  20. i felt that way at first, too. i still have little meltdowns but they are less frequent. yep, it really sucks with a capital SUCK. because (the hardest part for me, anyway) is that it is forever. in the beginning i was so angry and i was trying so hard to stick to the diet but i wasn't feeling any better at all. all a waste of time and effort! plus...
  21. congratulations to everybody! i just turned 48 last week (misdiagnosed for 25 years) and have been gluten free since july - i feel *awesome*!!! i can't tell you how many people have come up to me and told me how wonderful i look! (now, i'm taking this as a compliment lol i must have looked awful before) people ask me "did you color your hair?" "what...
  22. my son!! (dx'd type 1 diabetes when he was 19) he is 25 now - and i sat right there and listened to the endocrinologist tell him to adjust his insulin accordingly "if he wasn't good at the diet"... he is now on a different insurance/prescription drug program and also a single dad, so he is smartening up a little being that it's cheaper to adjust his diet...

    ARCHIVED Caterers

i have eaten away from home (food prepared by restaurant/caterers) a total of 3 times since i was dx'd in july. at a wedding reception where mostly everything was gluten-free naturally (my friends' daughter's wedding) and my friend quizzed the chef extensively about ingredients. they even ordered a tray of smoked salmon just so i would be sure to have something...

(four people) also my friends always seem to be eating gluten-free - very interesting....... didn't push for anything, they just see the huge change in me, physically and mentally. sister likes...
