  2. i take blood pressure meds once a day. my script ran out and i kept forgetting to call my dr, so i didn't take them for a few weeks. then i started taking them and got D - called the pharmacy when i was first dx and they said the drug was gluten free. but i looked up the inert ingredients (gel capsules) and found out they are made of some kind of starch...
  3. nope. mine wreaks havoc with my digestive system. i am not on any birth control, am 47 or 48 (k 48 whatever) and i am totally irregular as far as my period is concerned. used to be straight 28 days, you could set your clock by how regular my periods were. now they are 5 days early to 2 weeks early to 2 weeks late??? what??? generally i am trying to...
  4. o gosh, how do you do it?? husband drives (16 in the air, 2 on the pavement lolol) and i used to go on the road with him. we would usually do sandwiches or whatever for breakfast/lunch, raid the truckstop (cheez crackers, snackies, etc, DONUTS) then stop at a truckstop restaurant for supper. husband has been running otr so long he knows which ones are...
  5. i have been recovering (gluten-free) since july of last year and i STILL over-do it when i am feeling good! i can do more and more but some days i feel like i could take a nap for no apparent reason. reminding myself that i was misdiagnosed/doing damage for 25 years; it's going to take awhile for things to mend properly. and every month my period (not...
  6. ugh. sorry to hear that but hopefully you will get a good dr. insurance is ridiculous sometimes! (ok, alot) i know ours is
  7. did you go with the k-town children's hospital group? you must be further east - my in-laws live in rogersville (i was looking at that mobile farmers' market - what a great idea!) we have one right in town - no strawberries (boo) yet but i think it starts saturday (yayy!) poor little guy - i am fairly sure one of my grandkids probably has celiac (probable...
  8. your sleep will even out it goes with the 'withdrawal' - try eating 'plain' - when i first started i did the same thing (not eat much)(ok. nothing lol) then i was amazed at what *didn't* make me sick. i was blaming an awful lot of foods for what turned out to be gluten. then i was like a bottomless pit - hungry, starving! - like every two hours. i pack...
  9. i am about to try roman's! i just have to co-ordinate when the guy is there and get my kid to bring it home to me (yeah, i trust no one and i know *exactly* where the bathroom is here lolol) he works at lexus in knoxville so i think it's one more exit up on the 'pike i heard they have a gluten-free buffet! (not every day) i also am going to ask when they...
  10. i bet you are still in withdrawal. i was still at a month into the gluten-free diet. if you are getting cc'd it will prolong the withdrawal. try skipping the soy, too. i avoid it when i can. they have gluten-free, dairy free, (well, pretty much everything free) candy bars that don't bother me a bit. hang in there.
  11. lol i will! i used to live in north jersey, wantage - right off the ny/nj/pa line at the bottom of high point mountain. through the woods to the delaware river (milford, pa) very pretty up there. east tennessee is a beautiful place - friends of ours come down from nj to ride their harleys in the mountains. smoky mountains are very popular to ride. i...
  12. nope, i am in east tennessee - but you know what they say: you can take the girl out of jersey, but you can't take the jersey out of the girl lol - going up to visit in july and hopefully i will be able to resist the PIZZA!! where are you at? sorry to say the redbridge is the only beer i have been able to purchase here, florida, new mexico, etc - haven...
  13. i suppose you have tried the redbridge? that's what i drink - it's semi-available and reminds me more of killian's than beer beer. the beer thing was huge for me, too. i'm a jersey girl: we drink beer. we don't pump gas haha i drink chardonnay on occasion, but beer and pizza was a major food group for me. i would hate to think how violently my body...
  14. congratulations, rich you are facing this head on. it took several months of denial (after 25 years of misdiagnosis and suffering) when they handed me the celiac dx for me to finally jump on the gluten-free wagon. this forum is the best place to ask questions/post info/ask questions/rant (lol) honestly, these fine people on this website saved my life...

hi wow are you in east tennessee?!! i live in harriman children's hospital is highly recommended - i don't personally know about their pediatric GI, but our grandson had to have hernia surgery when he was about 18 months old and their pediatric urilogy group is awesome. lol in fact the dr we had is on my short list of "if i ever divorce my husband i...
  16. never EVER cheat. maybe she has never been 100% gluten free long enough to see what a huge difference it makes. it took awhile to 'detox' (ohhh, cranky, cranky) and to even out my digestion - although every day you feel a little better... also had to cut out alot of other things when i went gluten-free like dairy, soy, certain veges and fruits, etc....
  17. wow! how awesome, ana you made me think about my first year anv is coming up in a few months. hard to believe as i still feel like a beginner. wierd how life is adjusted, huh? i have adapted old comfort foods and added some new ones "go-to" meals lol CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  18. oh, yeah, and have been self mj'd for years even before my dx, so i believe there is truth to it's medicinal qualities. it does help, even if it's an attitude adjuster. i get really irritable when i have been zapped, so it keeps other people from killing me. eventually, when i feel better it helps with the appetite. i agree with skylark - don't mess with...
  19. i stop eating b/c i have no appetite. also soooo tired. hot tea with sugar and lactaid.... hopefully a nap then i will feel progressively better but my digestion will be messed up for 4-5 days no matter what i eat. also feels like i am hit by a truck. i like the junior mints idea
  20. i totally feel ya. i feel paranoid about my FOOD o my gosh don't touch my FOOD!!!!!!! WHY are you eating a samwich over my FOOD - why in God's creation are you shaking it??!! i am always swooping in and grabbing spoons before they hit the whole pan of FOOD and make it inedible. i have always been an alpha - i do not know how a shy or non-assertive type...
  21. hahahaa! too funny just spent the weekend camping and almost every day there was a huge conversation about celiac - i love that people are interested but *damb* i'm sick of talking about it... on top of that, something has zapped me so now i'm cranky as all get out. i came home to eat a tuna on udi's and wait my alloted 20 minutes for my stupid body...
  22. if you figure it out, let me know!!!!!! since my dx, i have noticed other people's symptoms and suggested they get tested or try gluten free. they practically run away. especially my RELATIVES who probably have it....... i have a friend who is currently being tested for Everything Else - been diagnosed with IBS, diverticulitis, etc and is on several medications...
  23. when i was first diagnosed, i didn't tell *anyone* for like 3 months because i was in such denial. it's a tough diagnosis to hear! i didn't even tell my husband. in that timespan i lost so much weight i looked like a skeleton. by the time i admitted i needed to eat gluten-free i was so sick and fatigued i was sleeping all the time. i guess what i'm saying...
