  1. this morning i made "quick cooking grits" (kroger store brand) as a sub for farina/cream of wheat (comfort food for this jersey girl!) and ate them with sugar and milk - absolutely delish and no (didn't realize it till this morning when i was waiting for that familiar gut feeling) aftermath - another choice for breakfast!! also, i am thinking shrimp and...

  4. my neck was soooo sore (and shoulders, too, but most noticable was neck pain) i had absolutely no sense of smell, allergies (nasal, respiratory, etc) of course GI issues galore, pain at the bottom of my left ribcage (no idea) fatigue like crazy, interest in NOTHING new, old or whatever (alot of things that should have been taken care of - simple things like...
  5. i have been gluten free since the end of july and let me tell you: my period knocks me on my A$$ ever since! totally fatigued, cramping, D, headaches, joint/bone pain, lower backache, etc. maybe since i was feeling so many of the same symptoms from the gluten ALL THE TIME now when i feel bad from a visit from mother nature, i can notice the difference...
  6. o. my. gosh. i am having enough energy now to do stuff!!! i know exactly what you mean. my house needs alot of attention i have hope, now, where i was just trying to make it through every day. also, i agree on the meat packaging advice and also the less processed/hormones/etc the better it agrees with me also, you will have to tailor your diet to...

  9. How about 'gluten-free for dummies'? we all had alot of questions so i just left it *around* edited to say: oops. that is not an article. it's a book (sorry)(it was very helpful, though!) good luck!

    ARCHIVED Frustrated

no passionate kissing unless he's brushed his teeth! i learned that the hard way. also, watch the ingredients on your cosmetics - i got zapped by lip gloss. and hair mousse. i found a brand that works, after spending an hour reading every label in the sally beauty supply store lol but it was TOTALLY worth it. this stuff was a 'normal' price.
  11. i know a lady at my church who keeps telling me she is not supposed to be eating gluten. she doesn't remember why. ("just like you, arlene!" she says. i guess she thinks she's commiserating lol) i have offered recipes, sympathy, websites and advice. the only thing that she 'researched' was the price of non-gluten flours... oh, well...... let them...
  12. hi lucky i have only been dx in july w/celiac (after being misdiagnosed for TWENTY-FIVE YEARS!!!) but in 1986, after having an onset of digestive issues and diagnosed w/colitis ("there's really nothing you can do about it...") i was hospitalized for mysterious jaundice (i was so exhausted and weak i couldn't even pick up my child; i was to afraid i was...
  13. did you ever have a small child offer you a bite of their slimy, sticky cookie? and you pretend to "eat" it. that's what i do if somebody won't leave it alone. works like a charm "mmmmmmm! that is soooooo good! thank you so much!!!" smile, look him right in the eye, and get your point across.
  14. seriously!! ok, is this because: WE know more about this disease than most medical professionals?? the nurse (at my GI's office) called to give me my test results and then when i had questions for her she referred me to..... umm...... HERE! last month i had bronchitis that wasn't getting any better so i went to my doctor's office and saw one of the nurse...
  15. my husband is my advocate when it comes right down to it. i am at the point where (certain people) have been explained this 100,000 times and either they don't care or they can't learn. (why in the world do people think i'm a vegetarian?????) my sister is awesome and when she came for thanxgiving, she and her husband helped in the kitchen. sis was right...
  16. my dr. said all my tests were negative - celiac panel, biopsies, etc. but i had already been gluten free for 2 months, and she expected they would be negative. but in the endoscopy she noted flattening of duodenal folds which is indicative of celiac disease. otherwise, i am confident in the success i have had with the gluten free diet. nothing has ever...
  17. LOL!! I LOVE IT!!
  18. hahaha k8, how does one romantically and gracefully say 'eeeeew you're all gluteny!!' it's gotta be a moodkilla :/ while i'm doing the math: 2 people, 2 gether 4 22 years + (2-3 kids + 2-3 grandkids still living at the house - everybody not home! = house 2 ourselves = 0 interruptions......... is there gum that works? a supermint? quick fixxx...
  19. them: "is that gluten-free? you can eat that?" me: "am i eating it?" them: "well, yeah..." me: "then it is gluten-free." them: "wow. it looks really good!" me: "here: taste it." them: "nah. (takes step backwards) that's ok..." ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
  20. ok, here is my confession: i thought "really. getting glutened from kissing the significant other? preposterous!!" i really thought y'all were over the top and frankly, a little batty... but, i refrained and was careful when it came to smooching the old man. untillllllll........... ok, here is my apology: i was totally wrong! yes, you...
  21. yep - me too funny, i did actually cut out pre-packaged foods almost first of all. (plus, they're overpriced and pretty tasteless) and eventually my cooking became all fresh/basic ingredients, fresh herbs, etc. the only huge mistake i was still making was including the gluten. it made switching to gluten-free a whole lot easier. still missing my pizza...
  22. this was my first gluten-free thanxgiving. usually, we have a packed house - my sister and her family come down and stay for the week. this year, our brother was able to come as well along with his family. oh, boy, i'm thinking getting zapped is gonna be pretty unavoidable NOT SO!!!!! i had great kitchen help (husband, sis, bil) with some minor...
  23. thanx! this is my first gluten-free halloween and it's killing me - we usually have a party for the kids. we adjusted the menu but there were still some treats i was dying to eat........ on the upside: sixlets are gluten-free!!! yayyyyy!!!!
  24. that was my mom's name: lois (also my middle name) but we always called her 'loey' - she has been gone for 4 years - every day i want to call her and tell her how healed i am now that they finally figured out what is wrong with me. she always worried over my (lack of) weight. nice to see you, loey
  25. i was still gassy and bloated in the beginning. it took a (month ? ) while before my intestines started feeling 'normal' - i cut out dairy until the other day. i also skipped tomatoes and various things that (now i can tell the difference) gave me gas. sunday, i made tacos for church lunch and went all out - ate extra-sharp cheddar and raw tomatoes. i...
