Hi mopsie, I've been using Brita filters for quite a few years without problems. Good luck figuring out what's bothering you! (We're all different, to confound things. Maybe it is the filter in your case.) If you want to test it, discontinue using filtered water for a week. Drink tap water or bottled water and see if you feel a difference. Wish...

I've been a big fan of Chebes bread mixes for pizza crust, breadsticks, flatbread. I guess I'm lazy but mixing all those differnt flowers and then having stuff turn out ptretty yucky turned me off of bread. I lived fine without it. Tonight, however, I had a big craving for bread. For you in the know, the only bummer with Chebe is it doesn't get brown...

I solar cooked some butternut squash with Indian spices. I think I'll have a sundae now. -
ARCHIVED Pumpkin Seeds
Marilyn R replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Luving the black teeth, Irish. OP, you can toast squash seeds too (like those from butternut squash). They're equally good. If you have a latino grocery store nearby, they've been a good cheap sources for seeds for me. -
ARCHIVED What's For Dessert Tonight?
Marilyn R replied to sora's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I melted about 3 Tbsp dark chocolate chips with a Tbsp of heavy cream (milk works just as well). Meanwhile I crunched up some gluten-free pretzels. Two scoops of vanilla ice cream placed in the bowl of melted chocolate + gluten-free pretzels + a scant handful of cashew pieces = YUM. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Stomach Pain
Marilyn R replied to monkeyface's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It could be soy or dairy... you may develop other (hopefully short lived) intolerances while your autoimmune system is in attack mode. The way I looked at it was I removed the beast my cells were attacking. Everything was good for a very little while. Then my AI system got all ramped up about anything that was similar in protein structure to gluten. I... -

We had turnip greens in the traditional southern fashion. That's all that mattered to me, but I made fried polenta (to dip in the liquour of the greens) because I have not been able to find a gluten-free corn bread recipe that I trust. We had chicken too, but for me, it was all about the greens and polenta. DP said "Wow, that's really good cornbread... -
Here's the quote. "SURVIVING Nature is a a finely tuned balancing act and no one living thing can survive without some dependence on, or ability to affect, another. All animals and plants need energy and materials from the environment, and they survive despite the precarious nature of food chains and difficult environments, even coping with the additional...

I've been to Manistee a few times but don't remember Arcadia. That's some pretty country up there. Glad you got to go there. -
You could buy over 100 packages of Chebe bread mix, use a fork or spoon and your hands for less than it costs to buy a Kitchen Aide. (For the record, I have a KA) Just food for thought, so to speak.

ARCHIVED What Do You Do With Udi's Bread?
Marilyn R replied to heathenly's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A frozen piece of UDI's whirled around in a mini food processor makes a good substitute for panko bread crumbs for just about anything you can think of making that tastes good requiring bread crumbs. -

When I was growing up in Michigan, I always thought I'd live in Mainee when I grew up. I ended up in Florida, and don't know why. -
ARCHIVED Glutenized? Contamination
Marilyn R replied to Medcoder03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Medcoder, and welcome to the forum. Rolling eyes, in my considered opinion, would be cause for justifiable homicide. Tell him so right away! Us celiac WARRIORS kill people with rolling eyes. (At least in our dreams.) In case you don't want to go there, giving him his own bowl of dip for his contaminated crap works too. You keep your own bowl... -

Jestman, I'd so be there for the festival if you lived near Bainbridge GA vs. DC. Our RV (We call it 4 Sheets to the Wind, it's a 4 Winds) is a 1992 model and we're not good at engineering like your houseguest. -
Hi June, Try Chebe mix before buying a bread machine if you can tolerate egg and dairy. It's really tasty and easy to mix up by hand. Do follow the directions and don't add more liquid than the 1/4 cup it calls for. (You can cut back on the amount of cheese though.) I mix it up and kneed it in a big bowl, then bake it on my holy pizza pan with...

Marilyn R replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I put a hex on them until I got past the anger stage. My hexes never worked but they made me feel better about jerky family or friends. Here's a super secret. Just cross your fingers under the table toward the offender and officially give them a dirty look. And carry on. Have fun, eat and drink heathy and hex the heck out of anybody who says... -

Open Original Shared Link My memory has gone downhill, but for some reaon, I remember seeing dieticians recommening this product 15 years ago. (I was working with an enteral nutrician company.) I checked the ingredients, maltodextrin is on an "iffy" list I think. Call or e-mail them about their gluten-free status if you're interested. I think... -
ARCHIVED How Is Everyone Doing On Their Diet These Days?
Marilyn R replied to T.H.'s topic in Super Sensitive People
Hey Shauna, good to see your post. I'm not doing that well, but have had a new development. (Lupus.) But I'm doing better than I did before, and that's all I ever really wanted. I know I won't be like I was before in the Glory Days. (Yay Bruce Springstein!) I still have lots of piss and vinegar left in me (No malt vinegar though.). xxx -

ARCHIVED Help Again
Marilyn R replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Razzle, I've only had steroid ointments, never have taken prednisone, but have 2 girlfriends who road that roller horror coaster. I keep xanex .5 mg on hand. I don't take it very often, a prescription of 30 pills will last me 4 months or longer. I cut them in half when my skin is crawling, take a whole pill if something major happened. My friend... -

I must say the best thing that happened to me was being called Keemosabe! They say laughter is the best medicine... Speaking of old tv shows, one of the female stars of "The Walton's" (Mary Ellen) has Lupus and is gluten-free. I'm trying... -

Hi Gunkie, and welcome to the forum! TY squirmingitch for alerting me to Gunkie's post. Reminds me of Tonto, you're a good heart babe. xxx Your rash looks like Lupus to me, I looked at your photo's closely, but I'm not a doctor. I used to call it my road map rash, or Atlas rash. You said you didn't know what to do. Here's what I suggest... -
ARCHIVED Spices For The Beginner
Marilyn R replied to GF Lover's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Welcome to the forum, and wish you well! If you are on a budget (and who isn't now, especially if you have celiac disease!) and just learning to cook, I'd recommend going to the camping section of your local Walley big box store. Ozark Camping makes a really cool little camping device with the most popular 8 spices. That will get you going, then...
