ARCHIVED New To The Board
jenvan replied to boysmom8's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Gluten free pantry also has some instant bowl meals, like pasta/beans, stroganoff. I usually eat a salad with some lunch meat and an apple or gluten-free chips. I put all kinds of things on my salads to make them more filling too--nuts, meat, beans, quinoa. But not sure if kids would like that. Does your grocery store have fruit leathers? I get them... -
ARCHIVED Yukky Question
jenvan replied to Cookie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
John- I have been gluten-free for 5 months, and I still get undigested food passing through. It could partially mean we still have healing to go (I know I still do)...and I think it is normal for some seeds to pass through your body, like corn... But I have all types of food that sometimes remain "undigested" ! -

Go to this post to read a list of Neutrogena's gluten-free products. Open Original Shared Link Tolietry items I make sure are gluten-free: shampoo, lipsticks, toothpaste. Oh, and Listerine is gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Tortillas
jenvan replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nisla- This is the recipe I use for my tortillas, if you are interested in trying. I'm coping from an earlier post: 1 cup sweet rice flour 1 cup white rice flour ¼ cup tapioca flour ¼ cup brown rice flour ¼ cup bean flour or sorghum (or split 1/8 bean and 1/8 sorghum)- I personally don't like a strong bean taste in my breads 1 tsp salt pinch of... -
ARCHIVED Recipes That Freeze Well
jenvan replied to KayJay's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
KayJay- I ended up posting the flat bread recipe in another location, so I'm putting it here as well in case you want it. Good luck with the delivery. How close are you? 1 cup sweet rice flour 1 cup white rice flour ¼ cup tapioca flour ¼ cup brown rice flour ¼ cup bean flour or sorghum (or I split 1/8 bean and 1/8 sorghum)---since I don't like a ... -
That is good to know about that resort. My husband wants to take a big vacation next year with some friends, and so far he's proposed an RV trip out west (a little daunting for me to think about!) and a trip to Disneyland. I'm pulling for Disney right now!

I still recommend www.neighborhoodies.com They have t-shirts you can make for less than $30. And they have bags, hoodies, hats, tank tops, and underwear if you want to put gluten on those too I have a hoodie from there and am thinking I am going to get a 'gluten' t from there too. I do like Justin's idea Abby I told my dad--he thought it was hilarious...

ARCHIVED Fritolay Gf Products
jenvan replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So will any of you eat the baked Lay's ruffles products like Vincent was talking about? They were bold enough to send me a list of gluten-free products with that on it... Maybe I should ask for more info. I really love the baked original ruffles. I used to eat baked kettle chips all the time and they told me they couldn't verify if their product was gluten... -
Leslieann- Can't wait to try some of the recipes on the site you posted...

ARCHIVED Tortillas
jenvan replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also tried the food for life tortillas. For me, they ripped apart very easily and I ended up giving up on them b/c it became too difficult! I just bought a cast iron tortilla press and plan on making my own... also b/c I can tolerate the all corn tortillas. -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism ?
jenvan replied to Nanjee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nancy- I don't have too much to offer--but my mother has Hashimoto's. She has been taking a low does of synthroid for years with little issues. At this point, she hasn't tried any other meds for it. I don't believe she had many other symptoms besides the growth on the thyroid.. Good luck! -
Julie- Good luck cooking! I get excited to make new things too. "Big Groceries"--I like that. I think my husband feels like I do that each week ! It's better sometimes if I don't take him a long to see the receipt !

ARCHIVED Constipation/diarrhea
jenvan replied to BamBam's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think for most improvement comes after being gluten-free for a while. Although some notice immediate improvement. It took me a while to notice... How long have you been gluten-free for? -
Julie- Forgive the length ! but here are several recipes. I haven't tried some of these, so I would experiment. I am someone who rarely follows a recipe, I usually add/sub ingredients/spices. I like to cook my quinoa in a strong broth (I use chicken/beef, but you could use vegetable). I will add bouillon to the water or use stock, and simmer the quinoa...

ARCHIVED Danimals Dinkable Yogurt Gluten Testing
jenvan replied to lisabp's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
celiac3270- Good info to know on the gluten testing. Unfortunately Lisa probably left before she read it. I think it is very sad that someone feels they need to leave the board because they have been attacked. We can comment and gently challenge one another here, however, we don't have the right to sit in judgment on the decisions others make... -
hey all-- I saw some of you were asking about ways to approach drs, so i am posting the text from one of the doctor letters I'm sending out-in case someone wants to use it as an example for their own. My philosophy is that the letter needs to be somewhat concise, and "kind." Even if I am angry at my drs for missing my diagnosis or frustrated with them,...

ARCHIVED The Dreaded "travel With Catered Food"
jenvan replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tiffany- I thought of asking for a dehydrator for X-mas this year. I get annoyed how it is so hard to find dried fruit w/o added sugars etc. Any recommendations on a product? -
Let me know what you think of the quinoa after you try it! ps--the packages say cook 15 min, but i usually end up simmering for 20. then i will put a dish cloth on top of the pan and put the lid back on--let it set off to the side for a few minutes to absorb some of the excess moisture. (i do that with my rice too...)
-
thanks girl-always forgot about that. i'm going to try your casserole recipe sometime... i assume you use an instant-type rice...

I swear, I've got to watch my spelling. At the end of my last post here I meant to say, I have bean recipes, If you want any... My brain ! I have been misspelling and mixing up my words, even when I am talking a lot lately. !
