  1. Brandi- I have yet to find very many spices with gluten in them, mostly taco seasoning in the bag, so make sure you ck on those. Some are okay. The brand I use most of the time for spices is McCormick. They will not hide gluten on their labels, and if there is no ingredient list on a spice like "thyme", it means the spice is pure, and has no other additives...
  2. perhaps 'gluten sucks' is better than 'celiac sucks', and i'm sure some feel using the word 'suck' on a t-shirt in any form, well, sucks.

    ARCHIVED Awareness

Update on me--getting ready to send out the dr letters/fact sheets and my letter to Marsh--Indianapolis based, strong midwest grocery store. I hope to meet with the head of their purchasing soon. I also met with a woman from our public tv/radio station. I am contacting one of the shows that highlights medical issues to see if they will do a story. I'll...
  4. Unbelieveable Julie! I know there's been a lot of wasted test $ on me too b/c of things drs ordered...
  5. Senekha- I was diagnosed with "IBS" about 13 years ago...turns out it wasn't IBS, it was Celaic. That is a very common story around here. Often enough, docs are stumped and don't recognize Celiac, and label it IBS. It would be worth getting a blood test for it. You can also read this post if you get a chance, about IBS vs. Celiac. 6. Yikes- I forgot to ck back! I'll post the flat bread tonight or tommorrow. Hope all is well with you!! (And that's I'm not too late !!
  7. Julie- So glad my posts were helpful! Ck out this site, it will tell you all you need to know about Quinoa! Pronouned (Keen-wah) Open Original Shared Link This is one of the leading brands. It is easy to make, simmers for 15-20 minutes like a rice. I like cooking it in broth or saffron. I'll then eat it as a side with seasonings or sub it for rice...
  8. Hmmm, I don't about being a Celiac increasing your chances of having an child with autism. My husband is getting into the whole autism-mercury/vaccine connection research. That is very interesting. Rolling Stone just had a huge article about it...
  9. Tofu--I like the extra firm kind in stirfrys--brown it with veggies in a sauce. You can also use it in lasagna, although I don't have that recipe on me. We like beans and lentils at my house alot--black beans, all kinds of lentils, black-eyed peas, pinto/northern beans, and quinoa (yummy cooked in broth, similar to a rice-high protein, my new favorite)...
  10. yeah, the phillyswirl owner is so unbelieveably nice. i bought a couple of boxes recently--they are good. i esp like the italian ice kind... (and nice since i started dairy-free for a few weeks today!)
  11. Wondering-- Well, you definitely have a lot in common with other Celiacs! For one, you noticed your symptoms (which can be from Celiac), after a pregnancy, which is when some women notice their Celiac being triggered initally. All of your more recent symptoms are common for Celiacs too...the only one I haven't heard mentioned myself is bruising. (Do...
  12. luap (and others) - I spoke to the nutritionist/biochemist at great plains, the lab that did my intolerance testing. She said I was one of the most allergic people she's seen--and that she rarely sees people reacting to even vegetables like I am. She told me I need to experiment elminating the different foods and that just b/c I am highly reactive to one...

Hey, this is random, but has anyone ever watched the nationwide cheerleading competitions when they're on tv? They are kind-of funny, but I dig watching them in a weird way too. I mean, how the heck do those little girls get into those poses while being thrown up into the air that high??!

  23. I can tell you quite a few people wouldn't recommend that book b/c they feel the some of the information in it is not accurate. You can do a search in the forums for the book by typing +against+the+grain in the search box. You can then read the posts individuals have made concerning the book. I would say the most recommended book on this forum is "wheat...
