    ARCHIVED Anemia

mom-- i had an infusion done earlier this year, and it has kept my iron levels up, since i was severe before. i am still in the normal range, so it is a treatment i'd definitely recommend. just make sure they test u for an allergy to it before you get the full infusion...
  3. i've ckd with tyson several times and the broth in their fresh/frozen meats is gluten-free
  4. hey, i'm lucky enough to have reynaud's too !! i get the purple/bluish discoloration too, but a lot of times it manifests as red, slightly swollen spots. I also used to get severe itching in the afternoons when my fingers would finally warm back up. now that i know about it, i can prevent it most of the time, by making sure my fingers don't get cold...
  5. gina- i know that stinks... i had loved those chips before going gluten-free and hated to give them up
  6. swittenauer- I definitely recommend 'wheat free, worry free' by dana korn, rather than the 'gluten free bible' by jax. There is a thread on this site where many of discussed the 'glutenfree bible' and most of us agreed that it has misleading information in it. danna's book is extensive and reliable. I do get 'living without' and love the magazine...

    ARCHIVED Npr Story

well, that whole allergy thing... a coworker said to me on friday--'i heard the story on npr about your gluten allergy.' still some confusion there for listeners i think. well, at least he brought it up so i could fill him in on the real deal
  8. I have a case at my house right now. It is pretty good... Def more expensive then regular...
  9. hi cdg-let me be the first to welcome you to the boards. you will love this place--so many great people and so much helpful info. i went the traditional route and got a blood test, endoscopy to diagnosis celiac. some here did the diet as you have, and self-diagnosed. i will say if you go gluten-free and ever decide to get tested later, it will be difficult...
  10. lushgreen- i think its probably a good idea for you to go to another doctor. i would get copies of your test results and take them with you. since i was diagnosed, i insist on getting copies of all my lab results and keep them in a file to monitor my own progress and to take to other doctors for medical history. if they give you a hard time or act like...
  11. Preach it on the ener-g rice bread. That stuff is wack I will say though that Nana's gluten-free cookies, the ones shaped like a bar are great, IMHO. I love them! I have never had the other ones you guys speak of... I also think midel's choc chip cookies are blah, with that aftertaste too. Hmmm... I'm sure I have others, but can't think of...
  12. Open Original Shared Link You can go here to get celiac3270 to send you the delphi list if you want.
  13. gitrdone- Go here to ck out the site of the creator of the SCD diet. Open Original Shared Link I haven't been able to find it yet, but there is also a thread here of those who are doing the SCD and are having success with it. That is a good resource too. Okay, this isn't the thread I was looking for, but its another on SCD. Open Original Shared...
  14. Ken- It would probably be best if you could speak with the chef/manager ahead of time. Have you heard of dining cards? Those are nice to take with you to restaurants and have them given to the chef. I used one this week. I get mine here: Open Original Shared Link I try and keep snacks with me so I can be more spontaneous...but I know it isn't the...
  15. sweet on bailey's. i figured it was a cya. i e-mailed to make sure my schnap's is gluten-free too so i can still make my favorite drink-buttery nipples !
  16. That's true! And if you're like me, you hardly ever follow a recipe without making changes to it anyway
  17. dang--my husband will really call me a cyber nerd if i start blogging too !!

    ARCHIVED Soy Allergy?

I am intolerant to soy--I noticed if I have soy milk, or soy chips etc, that it really gets my gut going--gurgling, gas etc.
  19. This can be a hard situation. You can encourage them, but they may never choose to get tested, so at some point, if you have no success with them, you may need to try and move on. My dad is very stubborn as well, and finally got tested last week. We are still waiting on the results. Unfortunately, knowing how my dad is, if he tested positive, he would...
  20. Janelson- We know it can be very hard, but after you are over the initial hump, things will get easier. I would highly recommend you read "wheat free, worry free" by Danna Korn. this book will help 'set the record straight' for you about what celiac and the gluten-free diet is all about. it is a great resource. you can buy/order it in most stores or...
  21. yeah, that sounded strange... i am bummed, just cked out bailey's irish cream and trying to see if it is gluten-free. they said basically, probably is, but it might not be. arg! does anywhere here drink it still?
  22. lushgreen- keep me updated. it your iron counts or low enough, the infusion would be a good idea for you. no constipation there...just a boring 4-6 hour wait in a doctors office. i took a mini-dvd player and watched alias, so that helped also, make sure you aren't buying generic or cheap iron--those are much more likely to constipate. Slow Fe brand...
  23. Judy reminded me that my grandmother had goiter as well, she had to have her thyroid removed...
  24. Michelle- That is awesome what you figured out with milk! I would looove it if my fibro pain was caused by milk I am still experimenting with it...dairy free at the moment. I definitely think there is something to it all...just not sure what sometimes!
  25. My mom has Hashi's, and her thyroid swells up b/c of it . She has to have the size monitored... It is where your thyroid is or glands that are swelling? The thryoid is in the front. You probably should have an endocrinologist ck it out...
