  1. You will need to experiment really. Fiber varies from person to person. Personally, the pills never worked for me, I had to take the actual psyillum powder itself in juice. But the pills might work for you. I would start with 2 at breakfast, 2 a lunch, with a full glass of water at each dose. I try and stay away from taking psyillum or fiber supplements...
  2. Brenda- Abby is another friend on the board. I asked her to post what rice-free bread she eats here....
  3. Well, I did give up most dairy for now...but man, I used to eat the Redi Whip right from the can--so good!
  4. Another option for you to try is Namaste's mixes. They are good and free of the foods you mentioned, except eggs. However, you could use an egg replacer for that. You can check them out here: Open Original Shared Link
  5. As celiac3270 hinted at, I wouldn't be so concerned about pedicures. I paint my toenails without worrying really. However, I do not paint my fingernails, and that would be a different story. I don't have much info on nail polish, but here is a post on Opi and their gluten-free status: Open Original Shared Link
  6. I would assume all chinese dishes have gluten in them, unless you can verify the ingredients etc. Even oyster or fish sauce can have gluten in them. I recently went to a chinese restaurant and discussed my options with them. They said I could have none of their dishes, as pretty much all have soy in them. We did come up with one solution though...they...
  7. The only item I have noticed a difference in, shelf-life wise, is bread. Those I keep frozen or in the fridge if I'm not going to eat immediately. Other than that, I've kept my gluten-free food around as long as any other non-gluten-free previously...
  8. Vincent-- Are you trying to figure out if you have a casein intolerance or if you are lactose intolerant? You could try taking a lactaid pill with milk next time and if it helps you, perhaps its lactose intol...if it doesn't, than maybe its a more serious or casein intol. Just and idea...
  9. Shannon--so glad to hear Ella is good. That is great! We can relate to the anger--use it to spur you on to tell others about celiac disease and promote awareness
  10. nice--it packs a punch i guess! i'll be interested to here bob. astyanax-saw you mentioned strongbow. i have one in the fridge right now...haven't tried it yet but am looking fwd to it
  11. vincent- that is a pretty sweet cooler. it looks like a little fridge!
  12. Julie- That's a classic picture of your family! Gotta say I love those Amy's dinners too! They're a life-saver...
  13. Matt- What Kaiti said can actually be true. "Splurging" on gluten or having an accident, even a miniscule amount, can damage and wipe out the villi that have healed and returned in your intestines. Let's say its then another few weeks or a month before you have another accident. Once again, some or potentially all of those healed villi are wiped out again...
  14. some of the more frequent diary intolerance symptoms are gas, bloating, constipation. these links might help with info: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  15. Ab and Carolyn- I cked out those puppy mills...I even searched down one here in good ol' Indiana. That is heart-breaking. The only comfort is that when those individuals profiting from such cruelty leave this earth they will be held accountable for what they've done. (hope that didn't sound too heavy! i do believe it though...) I am going to...
  16. Read this thread below. It is another discussion on gluten-free lunch/lunch box ideas: Open Original Shared Link
  17. Brenda- Ck out this mix for rice free bread. Manna from Anna is a popular brand: Open Original Shared Link I know there are others out there, but can't think of them right now! I think Abby eats rice free bread. I'll have to ask her what she gets, I forget.
  18. good timing on this post for me! i have been gluten-free for about 7 mos, but am just now getting around to buying a cooler. i plan to use it on trips, ie--this weekend we are going to chicago from indianapolis, and when i go to vegas over thanksgiving. i was trying to find a cooler that was small but held a decent amt of food, and that had exterior pockets...
  19. Kate- Well, enjoylife and chebe were both on my list of products they should carry--so maybe you'll be a one-stop shopper soon! I still go to 3 different places... I'll keep you updated! -Jen
  20. Others: Quinoa (you can buy and cook like a rice pilaf too--very tasty cooked in broth or spices. we love it!), Sorghum, Soy, yes-Buckwheat, Corn, Arrowroot, Potato, Tapioca, Bean (several varities there), Almond meal flour, Amaranth...to name a few. I've used several of these grains with success and know that Tiffany likes to use some of the more unsual...
  21. Ab- What is a puppy mill? I get an image of some awful place where they grow pets in test tubes and push them down a conveyor belt poking them with meta instruments! I feel some serious pet comraderie right now and wish I could share a pic of my Maggie with you all!! Maybe I'll switch out my avatar for a bit...
  22. jules-- i hope those damn fries were it. i hope too that your seizures quickly die down and disappear. i can only imagine how scary those can be. feel better soon!
  23. elonwy- you reminded me of a convo i had with my dh. i had never had pets growing up--never even really gone in a pet store. he and many others since have told me about how sick and poorly cared for pet store pets are. i was shocked! what an oxymoron! we got our cat from a shelter b/c of it.
  24. i have the software for my palm and it is helpful when in the store...
  25. carolyn- true that on the lameness of adding grains to pet food! we've all been 'sold a bill of goods' on what's healthy and what's not ! wow--money does drive so much! i think about pet foods, bleaching grains and hydrogenating oils, trans fats--all things to save $ that are no really healthy... my dh and i have been talking about putting our little...
