ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Poop For A Minute.
jenvan replied to frenchiemama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Reading magazines is okay to do in the bathroom though I think the bathroom is nice because it is one place no one seems to bother you--and you can be alone. Unless you have kids I've heard... or maybe in your case Rachel -

Ps-My dh loves the vols! And thanks for your hope of being blessed by God w/ the gluten-free journey I am a christian, so its a helpful reminder to try and pursue gratefulness in the midst of it all. However, I am currently at one of those weary points where I am ready for some changes! But it is always worthwhile to be helpful and encouraging to others... -

Heather, go here to read a list of illnesses that are often related with Celiac: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-12105112341.dc Chronic fatigue is probably one of the more common effects from Celiac. That is one of the most persistent for me. I am still chronically exhausted and get run down easily. Many find this fatigue goes away in... -
ARCHIVED Badger Products
jenvan posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey all, just wanted to share a great new product line I've found... Its the Badger Balm company. They sell lip balms that are great, better than traditional chapstick types I think. They also have body balms and some other specialty products too. Their entire product line is all natural and gluten-free! Great flavors and scents too... just wanted to... -
ARCHIVED Baby Shampoo And Sunscreen
jenvan replied to e&j0304's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Shannon- I don't know about the makeup off the top of my head...you will probably need to call on those, unless someone here knows for sure. My experience with my makeup was that the responses from the "mainline" companies were always somewhat cryptic, and often did not satisfy my fears of contamination. I actually choose to get rid of my makeup and switch... -

Stephanie- No worries...I'm down with the mucous and what not. I've had the orange before too The no pooping policy is strictly enforced by my husband who is heniously grossed-out at the mere thought that I would do such a thing in his presence. Which is funny to me b/c his mom went through this weird phase of colon cleansing where she LITERALLY... -

Heather- welcome to the board! we have some simliarities i think. i was misdiagnosed with IBS for about 13 years or so! and i was diagnosed in feb of 2005 too (i'm 26) Previous to my celiac diagnosis I took bentyl and levsin--and like you--they only thing they did was make me feel tripped out! Do you have relux or an ulcer too? Just wonder why you... -
Sorry if this post is unorganized...I am trying to write it fast.... It can be hard to find things at times. If you choose the additional options you can narrow your search to a specific forum/category. This makes looking at your results easier. Ie. since you are looking for foods/products you could start by searching exlusively in that category. You...

Abby-- Wow, should it be hurting that bad? Is it an abdominal pain or a rectum type pain? (Sorry--rectum is a gross word I go pretty much every morning. Unfortunately we only have one bathroom and the timing works out so that my husband is in the shower when I have to go. We have a strict "no-pooping-in-another's-presence" policy, so I always say... -
Kasey'sMom-- Yes, Living Without deals with all types of foods allergies, and on occasions, seasonal type allergies too. I love the magazine. I think its helpful for parents too--for instance, it had an article with tips for working with your child's school on their food allergies. I'm not sure about Whole Foods, but Wild Oats sells the magazine in store...

ARCHIVED Any Support Group Leaders?
jenvan replied to burdee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Burdee- Well, I'm not our group leader, but I'd consider myself to be one of the more dedicated members Our group meets in a multipurpose room at a small library...might be a possibility for you too. Different individuals usually bring in homemade or packaged gluten-free snacks. Unlike another local group, ours is pretty unstructured. The leader will... -
ARCHIVED Meatloaf Ideas?
jenvan replied to debbie-doodles's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Armetta- I'm glad! I actually made that one too w/a few adjustments. I used onion powder, and for the bread I used lays stacks-plain flavored and corn flake crumbs. My husband has always said he hates meatloaf--but he thought it was really good too! Guess we've found a keeper (meaning the recipe--although I'll keep my husband too : ) -
man...makes me jealous ! that places looks great. maybe one day every city will have a gluten-free restaurant

Hey Steph- I instantly thought of you when I got home tonight and saw my new issue of Living Without. There is an article in this issue entitled "No more nightshades." It is recipes to replace spaghetti sauce, mexican dip, etc. Can you get a hold of one? If not I could send you a copy if you are interested... -

I love the Living Without magazine--lots of great recipes in each issues, and I always learn something. There is also Gluten Free Living, which is good--aimed at Celiacs only. Those are the ones I know about. Also, this one looked really cool, but it is a UK magazine. I didn't ck into what entails getting a subscription in the US: Open Original Shared...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread
jenvan replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And I second the banana advice. I missed that one too! It is true (to a point), that the uglier that banana, the better the banana bread! (Want to share your recipe Mariann?) I came up with one I liked for banana nut muffins, but haven't tried it for bread yet... -

ARCHIVED I Want To Slap My Doctor In The Face
jenvan replied to Lena's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lena- You can't rule out Celiac based on not experiencing gastro symptoms. First off, some experience no symptoms, some individuals may only have a symptom like anemia...it varies from person to person. As for myself, I often experienced no gastro type side-effects when eating pasta, bread, cereal etc. Foods I had marked reactions too were foods that... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread
jenvan replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I always keep my gluten-free bread in the freezer, the manufacturers suggest it and it doesn't have any preservatives usually, so it keeps much longer in there. If I make fresh I preslice the loaf so I can pull a slice out at a time and defrost or toast. Kinnikinnick's are presliced so they are easy to pull out of the freezer too...
