  1. Did you get the pm I sent last week? Weight bearing exercises...you can start simple...ie. taking walks while holding light dumbells or wearing ankle, wrist weights. I definitely recommend weight-bearing as my mom, who had osteopenia, increased her bone density to normal levels by adding weight-bearing exercises and walking to her life. Read info and...

    ARCHIVED Malt

Yikes--malt has gluten, yes. So your diet is not gluten-free right now. Get rid of that malt vinegar asap!
  3. There is also San Diego and Columbia too...
  4. Psyllium is basically a type of natural plant fiber, derived from seeds. It is used as a supplement and is often part of laxatives and stool softners. Unlike a laxative or stool softner though, psyllium by itself is a good, non-medicinal treatment for constipation. (Laxatives, medications are not safe for long periods of time...and IMO, don't absorb and...
  5. I had blood work at 6mo and a year...and another endoscopy at 1 year. So, 6 month is a good time to check.
  6. Thanks for posting Bev...I figured that's what they were thinking. Ah--hope one day they have all the gluten-free dishes in the dedicated facility!
  7. Ooo, looks good. I'll keep this one to try later. Thanks!
  8. Oh Beverly...hope you don't have the C Diff...but I am hoping you get an answer soon...
  9. jabberwife- I also have dairy problems...but one month not long at all on the gluten-free diet. Yes, some individuals notice improvements at this point, but a fair amount of us don't. It can take months to really notice improvement...it did in my case. I noticed bm type improvement after a few months, but it has taken quite a bit longer to notice an improvement...
  10. I read the article this morning...could be really great. I hope the program impacts awareness as much is hoped !
  11. My muscle pain in getting better so I am not taking baths so much now...but, I was taking quite a few epsom salt/hot baths with some lavender essential oil thrown in. It seemed to help. I did get a foot spa with vibration, so when my feet getting pretty sore I sit in front of the tv with the feet in for a while. That helps--they actually start to sting...
  12. It appears this list has put the extra-strength (not regular) lactaid pills on the not-gluten-free or "suspect" list. If you e-mail Lactaid, they say all of their supplements are gluten-free. I would verify with the company...these type of lists can get a bit inconsistent b/c they are compiled by different folks.
  13. Are you positive that you have IBS and are not just experiencing continual symptoms relating to Celiac? Are you sure this wanted a gluten incident? Just want to make sure, b/c I believe the majority of IBS diagnoses are false ones. As Chelsea stated, studies are showing the links of digestive to seratonin, which is why some opt for drugs such as...
  14. Those look good...maybe they'll come to a store near me

    ARCHIVED Writing To Old Doctors

That is a good point...simply b/c if we piss a doctor off, that only makes him less likely to want to listen and learn. If you read the letter I posted, I tried to keep a firm, but respectful tone...taking the perspective of 'we need your help," vs. "thanks for nothing a-hole." I'm sure many of us could say the latter...but in the end it is probably not...
  16. My feet are very sore and I notice it only during a massage. For me, it is part of the fibromyalgia type pain I have in my muscles. My hands, arms, legs, chest, back, feet etc...are all sore with that type of tender, bruise type pain. I'm not big into reflexology...but I'm sure someone could give an explanation from that perspective too.

    ARCHIVED Writing To Old Doctors

Check outthis previous thread--its about educating doctors and I have posted some sample letters for sending to docs on the thread too. Open Original Shared Link
  18. A biopsy is really the way to evaluate the sample...however, sometimes in Celiac, there will be noticeable changes in the intestines that are able to be seen just upon an endoscopy, ie. scalloping, mosaic pattern. You can't diagnosis celiac disease based on those changes alone, however.
  19. I think the word cure is probably misleading, as there is no cure for Celiac...however, they are hoping for a supplement/medicine that will make the diet unnecessary. I think it will be interesting to see what happens...but I would be very cautious about putting my faith in a supplement/medication in lieu of the diet.
  20. Boy-it amazes me how that stuff happens. I use Galaxy vegan cheese products
  21. Wow...that is a while. I've had 3 endoscopies...one just killed my throat--sore for days. I was like "who was operating that scope anyway??!" Hope you are 100% soon!
  22. You've been through a lot...hope you get some rest, some laughs and TLC this week
  23. I also had the gas and some cramping. I didn't have any soreness though. Hope you feel better asap!
  24. Most of us here have Celiac. This article on the Widening Spectrum of Celiac, talks about one doctor with 20% of patients having constipation, not D. Open Original Shared Link Also read this quote from the Gluten Intolerance Group site: "Physicians may not be aware that celiac disease frequently presents with other symptoms, some that do not involve...
  25. I went through a period of time, after being in the hospital, of having multiple panic attacks. It is a miserable state. Biofeedback was a huge help to me...but I had to learn to control my anxiety with breathing, learning to calm myself. Also--going out, taking a walk, turning on a tv show to get your mind off of it all can help temporarily. Thoughts...
