  1. It does hurt and the fingers get sore! However, the monitor I have works great -- easier and with less pain. I have a Freestyle.
  2. I can't function w/o sleep. But...a few things that help ease the pain a bit--yes, water and some good snacks throughout the day, peanut butter/apple...something with protein. Not a lot of 'sugar.' I haven't caffeine in over a decade--not one drop...so that's not an option for me. Sometimes I will get a headache, and might drop some Tylenol for that....

That's cool! If you ever need to connect her with a local, let me know. We have a great group of Celiacs here in Indy...
  4. For what its worth gatorade gives me gas and the gurgles--I can't drink it for some reason (Will write more thoughts later).

    ARCHIVED Seizures

I asked b/c I think the seizures associates with calification in the brain are more common in Celiacs. Do you have a copy of Dangerous Grains? There is some good info in their on Celiac/gluten relationship to seizures. I've pasted some info and links below. I did some research for a friend whose daughter was having seizures--with no solutions. But can...
  6. I also wonder if Lay's gives people problems simply b/c they are chips--and even though they aren't as bad, they still have a lot of grease and oil in them... Greasy foods like chips always get my stomach gurgling and churning/gassy...
  7. Hey--I made breadsticks last night--yum! Focaccia Kate--I'll have to try that--sounds great!!

    Does he have calcification too?
  9. So you are getting your 1st Celiac blood work done on Monday? Is that what you meant? If so--you should not be gluten-free, as it may give you negative or skewed results. What made you be suspicious of having Celiac and try the diet? A few more thoughts: 1. Are you sure you are 100% gluten-free? Including lotions, medicines, vitamins, chapstick etc...
  10. Lister- Sorry about your symptoms to the chips! As I wrote in your other thread...I think maybe you need to look at your whole diet....and how long you've been gluten-free. Another idea is to start a journal where everyday you write down what you eat and any symptoms you experience--even seemingly insignificant ones. This is a great tool for finding foods...
  11. Look at that face... Patti - How could you give him anything but what he wants ?
  12. OH YES! Just be warned...don't try them unless you want to be whipped by the chips The plain are my favs for salsa--so good! But like I said, the Pico de Gallo is good too--little spicy. Dh and friends really like them too--they are chips I always use for parties/salsa etc...b/c I can't tolerate the ones made just from corn. You should try them friend...
  13. Lay's Stax are gluten-free and made on gluten-free lines. They are similar to pringles and have lots of flavors. Ck out their gluten-free list here: Open Original Shared Link The best chips of all though--to me Are Lundberg Rice chips--ever seen them in store? They regular ones are great with salsa-yum! And the Pico de Gallo taste like doritos...
  14. Hang in there! Have you considered working with a doc or nutritionist? Continuing to eat large amounts of sugar can make it even more likely you will become diabetic. Sugar cravings are hard to resist--Before going gluten-free I would get them often. Now I don't so much. Is there a friend who could team up with you to improve your health or provide some...
  15. A few things...1st, 2 weeks is hardly anytime for being gluten-free and noticing a difference. Your body may still be 'working things out.' Also--it is not uncommon for Celiacs to miss certain forms of gluten when they are first on the diet, so you may need to revisit what is safe and what isn't. Are you sure you can tolerate sausage and chili--spices...
  16. Well, I've never been pregnant (so others will have better answers I'm sure!) but...about 5 of my friends are pregnant right now The concensus among them is no lunch meats or soft cheeses either.
  17. Open Original Shared Link This is what we give our cat. She has some weight problems No gluten...but I still wash my hands. You could use the regular indoor cat food too: Open Original Shared Link I haven't cked on all the Eukanuba products, but I have yet to see one of their with gluten. If you click on the product it lists all the ingredients...
  18. Looks good! I'm dairy-free...might try soy cream instead of heavy cream...
  19. Those are all Hashi symptoms. Are you on any thyroid meds? If so, perhaps you need them adjusted, since you have also had enlargment too...or perhaps you will need to take them if you aren't. I would start with the thyroid if you are sure you are 100% gluten-free. This article is good on Hashi's and people with normal levels--Open Original Shared Link...
  20. Encouraging story Kristy...And yes, it worth it if even only a few folks find out about celiac disease! PS: If you think your son has Celiac...take things into your own hands. Some individuals fail to get a conventional diagnosis, even when their body is being damaged by gluten.
  21. Tiny prinprick red dots are nothing to worry about (unless accompained by vomiting or other extreme symptoms)...they are merely blood vessels. After being on the gluten-free diet for several years (some say 5...its debatable) your "life expectancy" should be quite normal.
  22. Open Original Shared Link I would test several more times also, and would probably make visit to the doc to get tested or discuss. The article above is interesting. I pasted a selection below... I know the test was with men only, but is still good food for thought. Since you are merely points away from being considered pre-diabetic and at risk I'd keep...
  23. Jillian go here to read episode recap: Open Original Shared Link
  24. I agree with Tiffany...I'm not as concerned with the content, just glad it was on the show. As Tiffany mentioned...the show is just concerned with the show...not with the disease.
