  1. So jealous about the fair--sounds like fun! I never did make it to the Bread Basket on my trip. It sounded really good though!

    ARCHIVED Fiance

Nicole-- How discouraging...I am so sorry for your finance's lack of support and understanding. As has been said here, this is a big issue, and maybe a sign of other potential issues too. I would have a real hard and honest conversation with him... Ie. My Celiac is real, and I have real needs. I will have these same needs forever, because I will not...

    ARCHIVED Candy

    Yeah, definitely not...
  4. It really depends person to person on the diet. Some folks see results only after weeks. It's hard to say. You could also go and get a quick Celiac blood panel done. The one risk of trying the diet is that if you ever want to get tested or go back, the road to returning to gluten is a hard one, if you are a Celiac or gluten intolerant.
  5. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1281 I think this is a good article to read on the pros and cons of the challenge...
  6. I use these...I think they are pretty good. For anyone interested, here's a pic of what they look like: Open Original Shared Link
  7. All sara lee packaged meats are gluten-free. I like Deli Selects the best...that's what I use.
  8. Why did you want to put him back on soy? I would also steer clear. If I drink soy milk I get abdominal pains and really bad gas too--and that very rarely ever happens to me. Soy is often not tolerated well. One of the top 8 food allergies.
  9. PS Mme--I got those drops, they work well...the "typical" ol eye drops made me feel worse. However, the eyes have gotten better too, in conjunction with the rosacea I guess. Armetta- Glad yours has faded! ...I hope so for me too. I totally know what you mean about those pictures--AH! They are pretty horrible, extreme cases, but I kept thinking...

    ARCHIVED Introduction

Robb- Interesting on the fatty acids... Was reading about a deficiency linked to depression (fairly prevalant here--also for various reasons). L-glutamine has been discussed here, althought not as much recently. But there are a few here who do take it on a consistent basis and feel they notice improvement. Could that be incidental, I've wondered...
  11. Melodi- Your story sounds similar to mine--similar progression of symptoms. IBS is such a common misdiagnosis for Celiac too. I would say that your symptoms etc are very much in line with celiac disease. If I were you, I would stop the diet (you have been gluten-free just 2 weeks?) and have some blood work done. When possible, I prefer testing to just...
  12. Just thought I'd post an update...but hope I don't jinx myself!! My rosacea has really improved the past 2 weeks. ! Looking much much better. I took the advice I got here and requested the metrocream (vs. metrogel) from my new GP. It isn't irritating like the metrogel and seems to be really working... Just thought I'd pass that along

    ARCHIVED Introduction

Robb- Hi! If you are willing to help, I'm sure there are some athletes here who would love some *fueling* tips. Sometimes lack of energy can't be helped at the beginning stages of healing, but oftentimes it can be improved. Here have been quite a few threads on this topic, here is one example, if you are interested... Open Original Shared Link
  14. againstthegrain- How long have you been gluten-free for?
  15. Ah, I really like those snickerdoodles But yes, they are very prone to drying out--so instead of keeping them in the box, put them in a sealed, tight ziplock bag. They'll stay fresh longer.

    ARCHIVED Pf Changs

olalisa- Sounds like you just had a server who didn't know as much as she thought she did... When I go I to PF Changs (going tonight actually) they always assure me clean pans etc are used. So, yes, in this case, I'd say your server was at fault. Next time ask for the manager. PF Changs, for me, has been the most knowledgeable and assuring chain restaurant...
  17. There is a chance the tea may have had gluten in it. Do you eat chinese food or consume caffeine often?
  18. Woodchucks are good! ...but I will add another favorite cider here, in case you come across it Strongbow--comes in extra tall cans, black and gold. I love it--a more mild, less sweet taste than Woodchucks some might prefer.
  19. Ya'll have some great ideas ! I have e-mailed the organizers, so we'll see what they have to say. I love some of these ideas--kleenex box, reverse pocket, fake bottom purse, pregnant belly (that one crossed my mind too!), under a hat, feminine stuff Tiffany---I loved the Lilith Fair's too--I went to everyone. Good times... OH-Just got an e-mail...
  20. That should be fine! Just keep it clean, and use the common sense wisdom you have been, like putting food on plates, not setting your sandwich where his was. You're family is lucky to have a mom who really cares about them
  21. Wow...that's a sad story for your friend...
  22. So, this is funny, and I think I am kind-of clever, but I thought I'd check and see if any of you had some good ideas...preferably not involving body cavities !! For father's day my family is going to an outdoor concert series...and they search all bags, blankets etc and no food or drinks are allowed. You can bring chairs, blankets, purses etc. of course...
  23. Hmmm, I suppose it is possible, but not sure which ingredient would form a "cast." Psyllium does turn to a rubbery gel, so it can look strange coming out and may confuse some folks. I think part of what makes these cleanses harsh is that they contain too many ingredients--fiber (often too high a dose) + a long list of herbal or chemical laxatives. [Funny...
  24. Well, unfortunately IBS is commonly given to Celiacs as a primarily misdiagnosis--myself included. Celiac can definitely causes the symptoms you have been having. However, 3 weeks is not long for some Celiacs on the gluten-free diet. I would say I noticed improvement in bms after a few months, but it has taken over a year to notice improvement in my energy...
  25. Shannon- It sounds like you will do a great job trying to do what you can, and hoping for the best Research in this area is still fairly new. Here are some links to articles below: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
