ARCHIVED Trying Gluten-Free For Migraine Relief; Have A Question, Please.
Fire Fairy replied to Tiskers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Another Migraine sufferer here. I have had far less and less severe Migraines since going gluten-free in November. I was having up to 18 days of Migraine per month, 4 months gluten-free I've had a total of 8 days of migraine all of which were from accidental gluten consumption (I think). -
I went gluten free November 2nd 2010. (I also started that day.) Prior to going gluten-free My periods had been getting heavier and heavier and I had bad cramps and back pain. My Dec, Jan, and Feb periods were all pretty light and much less cramping. Feb was the worst of the three months, I suspect I may have consumed some gluten during that time. My usual...

ARCHIVED Gluten Headaches
Fire Fairy replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My headaches/migraines before going gluten free usually felt like a railroad spike had been inserted in the middle of the back of my head. It was a constant pressure. Sometimes though it felt like it was thundering in my head, there would be short bursts of pain on both sides in the temple area which I invision looking like lightening strikes. Sometimes there... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Alleviating Joint Pain
Fire Fairy replied to srall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My Dr told me to take 10,000 IU D in the morning and Bluebonnet Calcium Citrate Magnesium D3 at night(800 IU D and 1000 mg calcium). -
I too had several of the same symptoms. My legs twitched at night but in my case they actually jerked. I actually kicked my poor cat off the bed one night. Thankfully it's stopped completely since going gluten free November 2nd last year.

ARCHIVED What's It Gonna Hurt?
Fire Fairy replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Amy's has some wonderful gluten free frozen dinners that fulfill my need for convenience food. Yummy, filling and not as expensive as many gluten free frozen meals. For me cheating is not an option I get neurological problems with gluten exposure. For me it's totally not worth it. I think of gluten as a deadly poison. -
ARCHIVED Ok, I'm Getting Really Freaked Out!
Fire Fairy replied to jeslk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got glutenated from a scratched no-stick skillet. And I got glutenated from invisible crumbs in grape jelly. You see since I live with gluten eaters I didn't toss the old jelly I just bought new, unfortunately the jellys got switched round. I also think I might have gotten sick from ingesting some nail polish. I had some polish that literally wore off... -

ARCHIVED Any Suggestions For Anxiety
Fire Fairy replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I will get some B vitamins today and if it happens again I'll call my Dr and talk to him about Zanax. I did get some relief during one of the attacks by moving around a lot so if I'm at home I'll try exercise and if I'm at work I'll do the breathing exercise. It's good to know Immodium AD doesn't have gluten I'll... -
The last 2 times I got CCed I had what I would have to call an anxiety attack that occurred with my usual glutenated symptoms. This is new to me and I do not like it at all. I felt like my fight or flight response was activated despite having nothing to fight or fly from. Any suggestions how to work through the anxiety?

ARCHIVED Documentary About Celiac Disease
Fire Fairy replied to celiacstudent's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it's great. I was just diagnosed in November so I'm not a very informative critic. I must say you could add Migraines to your list of symptoms. And you could mention other problems that are linked to celiac besides thyroid. For example some people develop type 1 diabetes from years of untreated celiac disease. Many women have miscarriages. Etc. ... -
ARCHIVED B12, Pre-Mature Grey, Celiac?
Fire Fairy replied to Emma-Lee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I started noticing gray hair at 17. Now at 36 I have a lot silver threads, people think I get my highlights done. I used to be upset about it and started dying it at 17 but since I don't know of any gluten free hair dye and I can't afford to have it done in a salon, I'm calling my hair color "recession gray". Good for you making a list for the Dr.... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like The Only Guy Who Cant Eat Gluten
Fire Fairy replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My brother never went to the Doctor as an adult until he started feeling really bad. When he finally went the Dr checked his blood. His blood sugar was so high the Dr wanted him to go straight to the emergency room! That was 10 years ago and he was diagnosed type 1 diabetic. He is the only type 1 diabetic in my entire family. I strongly suspect he has undiagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Question For Other Migraine Sufferers
Fire Fairy replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I found out one place I've risked gluten...my nail polish. It had gluten in it, and I'm very rough on my polish so I've no doubt swallowed some on occasion. It's amazing all the pitfalls I'm finding. But I'm learning! Thank you to everyone who has responded I'm going to ask my Dr about Hughes when I go back, just to be safe. -
I think it's perfectly understandable to be bothered by watching others eating cupcakes and the like. It makes one feel a bit like an outsider. I'm very glad this post was made now. I have a meeting to attend on the 27th which will have glutenous food. Now I'll (hopefully remember to) bring my own gluten free treat. I suspect they will have some fruit...

ARCHIVED How Do Some Celiacs Put On Weight?
Fire Fairy replied to adm07's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was 172 at the doctors office on November 2nd (when I diagnosed) and on February 2nd I was 137. 35 pounds came off in 3 months, My belly distention which had caused several family members to think I was pregnant disappeared completely after only 3 weeks. I think I was tested for Hyperthyroid just a couple years ago because my doctor suspected it to be the... -
ARCHIVED Question For Other Migraine Sufferers
Fire Fairy replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It was actually during my cycle that this occurred. I may need to drop the soy as well. I'll have to go over my food journal and check for it and sugar/carbs. -
ARCHIVED Question For Other Migraine Sufferers
Fire Fairy replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I took Topamax for three years or was it five? Let's put it this way, thankfully nothing I need to remember happened during that time. At least I hope it didn't. It really messed up my short term memory. I'd be in the middle of doing something at work and completely forget what I was doing. In fact a few times I undid my own work. Buttered bread I used... -
ARCHIVED Question For Other Migraine Sufferers
Fire Fairy replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I took Topamax for several years and my migraines just got worse. My Dr has been very good about insisting I need to learn about my own health. Years ago when he started treating me for Migraines he gave me a reading list. He didn't give me nearly enough info when he suggested I might be gluten intolerant, unfortunately that visit was rushed. He did send... -
ARCHIVED Question For Other Migraine Sufferers
Fire Fairy replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My migraines have been much better since going gluten free November 2nd. I had been having around 16 days of migraine per month. In December I had 1, in January I had 3. I've now had 3 days of migraine in February. Usually I can track down a possible CC but not on the day in question. Maybe it was a wayward crumb. The thing that really bothered me was that... -
ARCHIVED Question For Other Migraine Sufferers
Fire Fairy replied to Fire Fairy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"Do you get less migraines if you have a trial of Heparin injections ?" I've never heard of any of this. My Grandmother on my father's side had multiple strokes so that is something I fear especially because of my migraines. I and my Dr suspect I've had some mini strokes (TIA's). Thank you for posting this. I will have to talk to my Dr about it. -
ARCHIVED Was My Girlfriend Out Of Line?
Fire Fairy replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You didn't do anything wrong. Personally I'm afraid to eat out because it's to easy to get gluten anywhere where they serve gluten food. When I do eat out I plan to just get a plain baked potato and hope for the best. Of course I'm new to the gluten free world so I'm treading extra careful. -
ARCHIVED Question For Other Migraine Sufferers
Fire Fairy posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yesterday I felt blah. I forgot to eat breakfast, I drank half my normal coffee and I was nauseous so I took my nausea medication. By the time I went to Church at noon I was feeling really blah. I came home and ate a bowl of Chex with almond milk and an orange. I never felt like cooking so I ate corn chips and drank a V8 later for a snack and for dinner I... -
ARCHIVED How Come You Do Not See Older People ?
Fire Fairy replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My Grandmother died this year at 94. She had diabetes (type 2) and I strongly suspect undiagnosed Celiac disease. My brother has type 1 diabetes which I suspect was brought on by Celiac disease. He is one of those who doesn't take care of himself and eats what he likes.
