    ARCHIVED Applebees

This is interesting to read - I was there a year or so back and the nice server went through the menu with me - finally we decided on a plain chicken breast and steamed veggies with butter. I was optimistic - but I got sick anyway. I thought for some reason it might be the butter (it wasn't real butter) but I guess it could have been the chicken. Anyway...
  2. About citric acid - it is derrived from mold and a sugar, often corn sugar/syrup. I am allergic to the mold so cannot have any citric acid. Baloons have corn starch in them, a drag. Also, they are making these new recyclable bags out of corn - nice. I want to recycle and use products that break down, but I won't use corn. For a long while I thought it...

    ARCHIVED Symptoms

I generally am slow - usually it's the next day before I realize what's happened. But recently it's been sooner, 6 hours, and then the other day, 15 mins. Stomach pain and a weird feeling like I was phasing out (like when they beam people up in Star Trek) and I flat out had to say, "I don't feel well." It was weird. And I didn't suspect what I'd just eaten...
  4. Actually, my complement 3 was low one time, not significantly, but flagged, but the next time it was fine. Alk Phos is always low, has been down to 22. My ANA has a nucleolar pattern which is indicated in scleroderma but nothing else checks out (thankfully!) so I've been dismissed. My ANA goes from 160-320. I was having some weird joint pains in my right...
  5. I had the same experience that Tiffany had with GFL. They have grown too fast and can't keep up. Then the most recent issue I got had a big apology in it which was nice, but it seemed passive agressive to me. I wish I had it here, I'd explain why. Anyway, I don't really appreciate the info because while there is some good stuff in there, they also condone...
  6. Being on or off dairy hasn't affected any sinus stuff for me. This spring, I was briefly glutened (must have gotten a pretzel crumb in my chips at our Oscar party) and within 4 days got a KILLER sinus infection that lingered in one form or another for four weeks. I ended up with antibiotics which also did a number on me. Before I went gluten free, I was getting...
  7. Well, I survived my weekend but I am still having stomach reactions. So definitely got a glutening in there. It was fast after eating the crackers, but in retrospect, I ate them several times (at least three times) during the week before, and it was nearly 24 hours after the first time I ate them I started feeling something. But nothing like how I felt 1...
  8. I occasionally crave pizza (I think I actually whimpered last night watching a Round Table Pizza ad) but the Pizza Hut ads make me nuts. I mean, now, in order to encourage people to "eat their pizza" they have to stuff the crust with cheese and make it so you can snap it off and DIP IT into something? WTF??? I mean, it's just crummy PIZZA folks! Geez! "Better...
  9. I came back with a 9 on my antibodies from EnteroLab and I just wanted to point out that I am a week into a reaction due to eating rice crackers that were produced in a factory that also produces wheat products. And it's been really un-fun. My point being, numbers don't correlate to reactions or reaction strength, or the chance of having a reaction. My numbers...
  10. Hey Rach - just wanted to say "hi"! I had to kick corn to the curb earlier this year, once and for all. I was still deluding myself to think that organic corn was ok for me, but no, definitely not. I think for me it's an allergy, one of those slow reaction ones. Makes my stomach and head burn. Not fun. When I first cut it out, I couldn't tolerate any of my...
  11. Hi - mine has been low each time it was tested the past few years. I have been able to find little about it - sometimes it has something to do with B12 deficiency, but that doesn't seem to be the case with me. I did find some info that it might have to do with acidity of the body, so I might be slightly acidic. My rheumatologist was interested in it but couldn...
  12. Thanks, Patti! I'm getting ready to make the food for the party now and I'm thinking, blech. If it doesn't affect my mood, I'll be ok, because I can deal with stomach pain - just not the emotional roller coaster! Yeah, my kitty got his picture in the paper recently (I used him as a model for an article I was writing about flea treatments) and now he...
  13. Hi Y'all. It's been a while and I have been doing pretty well which is the good news. But I have a question about rice crackers. I used to eat Crunch Master a lot because it was cheaper than the other ones but now and all of the other ones seem to say that they are made in a facility that also handles wheat. So my husband has been discouraging me from...
  14. I really like the bar soaps - don't dry my skin like some of the other natural bars. I think the lotion is nice - a little too much for my face, but good elsewhere. No scent at all, either. Decent prices, too. Stephanie
  15. On the one hand, I am intrigued to see Celiac in the news, but I am disappointed to see it linked with a lawsuit, such as this. There are too many questions involved. Sure, McDonalds had a "gluten free" list published and fries were on that list. Who knows when they added the wheat/dairy parts in. Europe, for example, allows wheat starch in foods called gluten...
  16. I have the Breadman Ultimate, I think it's a two pound loaf, also. I haven't tried any scratch recipes lately as my early attempts resulted in doorstops. But it makes a beautiful Manna from Anna loaf. What I do (slightly different from directions): mix the warm water, sugar (I use agave nectar), and yeast first, and let it proof. Then I mix the egg...
  17. Wow, I am totally stunned. I slip away from this forum for 2 weeks only to come back and find an unimaginable uproar? What was the big deal? So what, this guy needs help, as many of us did when we first got here. Business as usual on this forum. Did someone mainline a bunch of gluten into Celiachap's bloodstream? That's the only reason I can think for...
  18. Yeah, I forgot to mention the dairy free part. Soooooo goood...... <Homer sound> Wish I had more... Stephanie
  19. I haven't tried oats again but am always surprised by the response that it's the fiber because a celiac diet is supposedly low in fiber. Really? I eat so much more fiber, more fruit and veggies, tons of flax meal, nuts, all sorts of things that are replacing pasta and sourdough bread in my diet. Anyone else think they eat less fiber now? I am too chicken...
  20. I love the nitrite and nitrate free stuff at Trader Joe's.... Mmmmmm, bacon.... Stephanie
  21. I think that's the name. I got one at Whole Foods yesterday, it was $7.50 (around that amount) and it's personal sized, the diameter of a celiac disease, approximately. It is dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate frosting. I totally splurged in buying it but couldn't pass it up. The way I am I am making four servings from it. It tastes and has the texture...
  22. Interesting about your pepper cure. My mom has had "nervous stomach" most of her life in one form or another and used to guzzle Mylanta on a regular basis. Then she took cayenne pepper in pill form daily and her stomach is fine. Really weird for me because I cannot eat peppers - I have a toxic reaction. So they healed her stomach and destroy mine. Weird,...
  23. Congrats! I'm in a new workplace myself and still trying to get a good habit going. But my most successful meals lately have either been leftovers or snack plates. We have a litttle kitchen at work and I pull out a hunk of cheese, cut it up, cut up a pear or apple, and get some nuts or something else like that and make a plate of snacky things and go back...
  24. About joint pains - I don't know, there is a connection I believe and others will attest, but I am developing them regularly in flares now in my hands and feet and I have been off gluten for over a year. I recently had an MRI of my hands to look for joint erosion and fortunately nothing was there. I have had all the tests and only positve ANA so far, but...
  25. Yeah, even their website says "no guarantee." In truth, I have eaten the Sun Drops (like M&Ms) many times and had no problem, and I usually react to small amounts. I haven't used their chips in a while now - I like the Dagoba brand or the Tropical something brand - they both say Gluten Free on their labels. Dagoba is $$$ though. They are both delicious...
